LORE - Fable Lore in a Minute!
Once upon a time, a government known as The Court was doing a terrible job ruling the land of Albion. When the citizens refused to bow to their wishes, The Court, comprised of The Knight, Jack, and Queen of Blades, punished their people by scorching the earth, raising the ocean and eventually driving whoever was left into madness.
Luckily a blacksmith and his lady friend had a boy and named him William, possessing powers of the mind, which would come to be known as ~The Powers of Will~. Such a creative name. Or possibly a pun? Anyway, William was transported into the Void where he defeated Jack and stole from him the magical Sword of Aeons. The sword spoke to Willy, promising to help him defeat the Court in exchange for his soul. William agreed. With the Court now defeated, William became the newly crowned king and Archon, unifying Albion at last. Albion prospered under a thousand years of peace BUT William's children grew restless with the Power of Will granted to them by their bloodline and turned to terrorizing the land. Willy, weak from his battles with The Court, was unable to stop them and disappeared. Without their leader, Albion became corrupted.
Fortunately, William was in hiding, taking up the identity of Scythe, a wise old man. With his assistance, a bandit named Nostro used his powers to force peace on a kingdom descended into chaos. Nostro is later corrupted by his power and poisoned by an assassin, but the Heroes' Guild continues to thrive after his death. Many years later, a heroine from the Guild known as Scarlet Robe, a direct descendant from the Archons, gives birth to a son who would become The Hero of Oakvale and set off the events in Fable.

they should do a prequel. I thought Jack of Blades was a cool villain. So bringing him back would be nice and introducing the Knight and Queen would be awesome. i hope. it is fable after all....
*****
they need to stop going further into the future. i smell retconn prequel
I think adding a King of Blades could be a nice touch. A king must surely exist, as I doubt Jack of Blades was conceived by some immaculate conception. The Knight has already been killed and the Queen was banished back into the void... They can't leave the Blade family just sitting on the shelf when they have the Queen.
Jack has already been destroyed, what, 4 times now? William, The Hero of Oakvale twice and Fable Journey, I believe. I can't imagine any sane developer would entertain the thought of dragging him back once more. They'll visit the Queen or add a King in some instalment of the franchise, I can't imagine them throwing back in that ridiculous shadow monster villain that you only meet near the end of Fable 3 that suddenly became the final boss.
fable legends is a prequel 500 years before the first one but it is a free to play game soooo
Well, Lionhead closed down, so odds are we'll never see Fable again :(
@@ThePooper3000 Boy, do I have something to tell you.
I was so lost until 1:06 than stuff started looking familiar
Boooo
+Jarl Balgruuf No lollygaggin'
That's what happens when the early lore of the series is either out-of-game or outright unnoticeable in-game.
Jarl Balgruuf 8
Rip LionHead studios and rip Fable
Rert 78 nope, the original creators have made FlamingFowl studios and are continuing the series, they gained the rights and are now creating a new card game so that they can eventually make a full fledged fable again. Leaning more towards prequels.
DarkAlphaWerewolf where can I find this information?
DarkAlphaWerewolf Hmm, that sounds good. I haven’t played any of this series yet but it sounds fascinating. Should I try it out?
Also, Fable 4 is in the works, apparently.
I hope not.
I never understood why no one freaked the hell out when Jack returned.
Datguyovahday
These events were thousand of years ago, the country has went through several extinction events, likely the only person who knew of Jack of Blades outside of maybe a legend was Scythe but he was too weak to do anything on his own.
You are not seeing the very large picture, its been thousand of years, Jack could have returned a few hundred years ago and made himself known as some benevolent ruler.
+Lucas Orr The narrator even says "The hero of heroes... Jack of Bwlades"
Also Jack owns most of the landscape of Albion and the first quest area you go to, killing the Wasp Queen? There's a memorial thing about a massacre or something Jack did.
As far as the world was concerned, Jack was basically just a incredibly powerful, ruthless, and destructive 'hero', much like how you can become. The only people who really seem to know Jack that well would be Maze and Scythe.
Very commonplace books detailing the horrors behind him? Not to mention npcs often referencing how evil he is in idle dialog?
I should clarify for those people a little lost... (This is basically the Fable lore, it's pretty long. If you're expecting a TL;DR, then don't read).
The Queen, Jack and Knight of Blades are beings from a place called the Void. They're called: The Court. They manifested into Albion with plans to rule over it, but the people of Albion refused and fought back.
As punishment, The Court turned into their Dragon forms and scorched Albion in flames. Their display of power wasn't enough to force the people of Albion to become submissive. They fought back again.
This time, The Court, with the aid of the Krakens submerged Albion in water and it still wasn't enough. The people waged war again, and again, and again.
Knowing that they couldn't rule over the people of Albion of their own willing, The Court decided to take away their freewill and thus they became the tyrannical rulers of Albion.
This continued for several centuries until a boy called William Black, born to a lowly Blacksmith was born with The Power of Will. He was able to resist being controlled by The Court and when he became of age, he blocked them out completely.
A boy, able to resist the power of The Court, didn't please the Jack of Blades. In fact, Jack of Blades teleported William into his home, The Void to confront him. They fought, and fought until they were both weak... William saw his chance, so he took The Sword of Aeons from Jack of Blades and overpowered him.
This wasn't enough to kill Jack indefinitely, but it left him in a weakened state, unable to manifest in Albion.
William escaped with the Sword of Aeons, and sought to banish The Court from Albion altogether. At the cost of his soul, William Black was able to destroy the Knight of Blades in combat, killing him indefinitely and was able to force the Queen of Blades back into The Void.
Free from the tyrannical Court, the People of Albion were united and ruled by William, who was now a dead husk of a man. The cost of his soul removed his mortality, making him immortal but he lost everything that made him Human. He had one purpose now, to protect Albion from The Court. Nothing else mattered to him.
Under his rule, The Old Kingdom was created. A namesake given centuries after its creation. Although there could be no order, without chaos. All of Albion became 'human' with their freewill, some decided that they simply did not want to be lorded over.
They rebelled, and humanity became corrupted. William disappeared and was never seen again.
Centuries later, a man by the name of Scythe (Although unconfirmed, is suggested to be William by the Fable community) found one of William's descendent, who lead a large group of bandits during the corrupted era of Albion. His name was Nostros.
Scythe helped reform Nostros, turning him from a Bandit to a Hero, and with Nostros... He founded the Guild of Heroes. A place where people with the Power of Will were given a haven to hone their art and be able to help those in need.
Scythe became weary of Nostros when he married a power hungry baroness. Over time, Nostros' influence on the Guild simply diminished and he was assassinated... The Baroness then turned The Guild into the most elite bandits, with unstoppable power.
Scythe intervened several times, and eventually order was restored to the Guild, shortly after, the Hero of Oakvale was born and the events of Fable transpired.
---
And that, is Fable in a nutshell.
If only 3/4 of this stuff WAS ACTUALLY SAID/SHOWN IN THE FUCKING GAMES
Is this stuff in the books?
I think so
@@ThePooper3000
You have to read the in game books.
Yup if you want to learn more about the world read in game books.
Well it hasn't been CONFIRMED Scythe is William Black BUT it's too obvious...
I often hear the question of who is most powerful hero in Fable. Typically it is between William Black, Hero of Oakvale, and Hero of Bowerstone. Based on actual feats in lore (game mechanics don't count) I am curious what you guys think. Who do you think is most powerful among them?
Personally I believe the Hero of Oakvale is most powerful of all of them based on how he didn't simply defeat Jack, but he killed Jack without the Blade of Aeons, something that William was not capable of doing.
Depends William has been around for a while and he wasnt weak if you choose to fight him, i think if the hero of oakvale survived the spire being activated maybe he could have been. But william also fought all 3 of them so its like he took down 2 and missed 1 the shame of it all
blue12393 Well keep in mind that William needed the Sword of Aeons in order to even stand on their level. Sure, he fought Jack without it, but he and Jack both almost died, suggesting that Will was on the level of Jack with the Sword of Aeons in that battle. The Hero of Oakvale fought Jack of Blades and absolutely destroyed him without even using the sword of Aeons... twice. So imagine The Hero of Oakvale's power when wielding that same sword. Without it he was already far stronger than Jack, while Will almost died. So even though Will fought the Queen of Blades, he was only able to do so because of the Sword of Aeons. The Hero of Oakvake could probably do so without the sword.
Charles .Firebird97 yeah probably i see your point of view
The Queen of Blades was the most powerful of all three (Canon) and William took her on alone. Sure, he used the sword, but the Hero of Oakvale used Avo's tear, which is the same strength as the Sword of Aeons.
Also, you're using William's youth as a point of his strength, however William is Scythe, so William has been around since the beginning of the Old Kingdom, since he created it. So William has been around for thousands of years AND he defeated the Queen of Blades, the Jack of Blades and the Knight of Blades. (And Jack would have died if he didn't use his mask and cheat, the only reason the Hero of Oakvale won is because he destroyed the mask, which William didn't get to do)
Also, The hero of Oakvale can't even SCRATCH Scythe (William) in Fable: TLC and Anniversary, so even if they did fight, the hero of Oakvale would lose drastically as he can be hurt and killed, and William can't.
So William is stronger, basically :p
Willow Tree Actually the Hero of Oakvale did not use Avo's Tear against Jack of Blades in the first battle. In the first battle it was the Hero without that blade while Jack wielded the sword of aeons. William Black needed the sword to defeat Jack and even stand up to the queen.
Scythe wouldn't be able to do anything to the Hero of Oakvake either. After all, isn't the Hero of Oakvale supposed to be immortal too?
why is bowerstone drawn like it looks in fable 2 even though your tellin the story of thousands of years before the first game
fable has a pretty deep lore wish fable 3 delved into it even more
Rip TotalBiscuit
Here sir have my like, you´ve earn it with that clever commentary. Fable 1 is one of my all time favorite games, I even completed it 100% 15 times and am feeling the need of playiing it again after thi video.
Fable 1 was definitly the best of the best. Fable 2 wasn't that bad but it couldn't hold a candle to Fable 1. Fable 3 should not even be mentioned in polite society ever again.
Returning to this video after Fable's revival and seeing all the comments saying goodbye to the series really sums up just how neglectful Microsoft were towards the IP until they realised single-player RPGS are still as profitable as they always were. Microsoft seriously did the series and Lionhead dirty, so I guess we'll see if Playground's crack at Fable 4 is worth buying when it releases.

Oh. My. GOD. It's like, we just watched the video, MORON.
Trent H he's showing that its over a minute, 5 seconds over a minute in fact :p
Khelvera I'm sorry, but that sentence didn't make sense.
Trent H You're not too bright, are you?
Foxclass You're a jerk, aren't you?
Wow, that's an amazing backstory. Pity the games got so bad, because the amount of things that made me go 'woah! No way!' were many. I had no idea that Scythe was the Archon and that Nostro was the one who helped him unify albion.
I lol'd when I saw the TF2 spy as the "assassin"
He has his own channel you can watch it to hear him much more I believe it is called TotalHalibut not sure but write that and you will surely find it :)
Fable 2 wasn't that bad, It wasn't any Fable 1 though.
Fable 3 is fine except the part where Walter dies
you forgot to include the spire destroying the old kingdom
That was bs that was added on later regardless of what the OG story tellers were going with.
ALLxISxLOST it's still part of the lore haha
Does make it better that they bulled bullshit out of there ass :P
ALLxISxLOST not even sure why you're saying it's bullshit. it has always been a fact that the spire destroyed the old kingdom when the archon used it to make a wish.
Always? where was that in fable and fable the lost chapters?
Fable 1.
the son they talk about at the end is the hero from that game. Remember your mom was a hero in there.
totalbiscuit
correct me if i may be wrong, but. the hero of fable 1 ( or the lost chapters if you like that one) is an ancestor of the hero of fable 2, and the child of the hero of fable 2 becomes the king in fable 3?
Loved the blades villians
I figured it out I have connected all the storylines from each game into a massive chart of history including a good explanation of how it works.
Its too long to comment the whole storyline but if you are interested reply back.
Fable was good, Fable The Lost Chapters was better, Fable II is one of the best games of all time.
thank you finally someone acknowledges fable! this to me was the greatest game i have ever experienced and i never understood why it wasn't given the recognition that it should have. RIP Fable :(
Yes. This is the "past" Kerrigan. Only the "future" Kerrigan becomes the zerg style Queen of Blades.
yep that pretty much covers it... mostly... sort of... not really.
I played all of the games never heard of most of these, where did they get the info??
the wiki or you can find it in the books in the game.
Joseph Fox pretty much just the in-game books.
So many books. Rather kill hobits
yea the in-game reading in Fable is a lot worse than Elder Scrolls.
Man, I'm loving these, all my favourite youtube voices :D
@Immaculatekillr The end was basically the start of Fable 1. All this came from Albion's history found within the games.
"...driving whoever was left into madness."
TROLOLOL
It's never directly stated Scythe was William, but it's heavily implied throughout Fable 1, TLC, and even a reference in Fable 2
fable 1: GREAT, keeps you interested and entertained
fable 2: GOOD, but very fun and replayable
fable 3: GOOD, but too short and being king wasnt as great as it seemed.
That Archon guy sounds like a swell fellow.
they need to make a game on Will's storyline. i want to play the origins of fable
Hang on wait why can't we play the bit about will? That sounded AWESOME!
They really needed a joke for The Queen of Blades from SC2
only one fable the balverine order i do believe they are bringing out another book soon
Kudos to you sir
@Immaculatekillr This is all the before hand story, not the game fable. All this happened then the game started.
I haven't played Fable III, but when were the Knight and Queen of Blades ever mentioned and why weren't either of them used as villains in any of the Fable games, like say Fable II for example?
WOW YOU SHOULD'VE LET THEM CONTINUE
@DarkFreelancer666 1: Fun-ish
Lost Chapter: Good
2: Dying in a pool of blood but was relatively entertaining
3: Dead
Because Jack of blades killed them.
that's why he has the two heads hanging from his coat.
Fable 2 is 500 years after fable and guns were made in that time skip
Scythe was never confirmed to be William Black, just heavily implied (same thing I guess =/)
Fable: TLC was amazing and I liked Fable 2 for better or worse. The story line was interesting to me but I thought Fable 3 was a lot better even if it is the only Fable that you don't actually get to experience a single moment of your characters childhood. I hope the next Fable installment shall blow our minds as long as it isn't exclusively for kinect.I do question the major changes in Theresa being that her eyes were cut in the original Fable and there is no scar in the other Fable's.
Holy Crap its totalbiscuit.
don't forget that puppet one...
@POPCRAFT1000 It's bloody called "lore in a minute" Do you know how long it would take to say all this at a normal pace? Bloody hell...
0:14 queen of blades???
NO WAY!!
KERRIGAN WAS BLONDE??
Wait. Was that sword referencing Exor?
NO SHIT! WOW! YOU ARE A GENIUS! IM GLAD YOU UNDERSTAND JOKES!
Was their like a Prologue Fable game i missed because WHO THE FUCK ARE ALL THESE CHARACTERS!? The queen of blades? Some guy named Scythe? Nostro?!? WTF!??
Ah fable 2 wasnt that bad but definitely does pale in comparison to Fable 1. Fable 3 isnt even worth mentioning and doesnt deserve the title of RPG
@zuser Go to Fable wiki, type the Court in the search box
One day, a fat Swedish man wanted to be a millionaire, so he looked for a game that he could clone. He soon found Infiniminer and started work on this money maker game. A year into production, with the money he made from the suckers who bought the alpha version, he hired a group of employees to finish the game he started so he could make more money. After the game was released Notch refused to help develop later patches for the game and started making his second money maker game.. Have Fun!
Oof,rip me,I came back because I am smexy
@a0puncfan Yh and im pretty sure that the elder scrolls one was jessie cox and the Assassins Creed one was Hannah from the Yogscast
wait...so william, who possesses the power of will....killed jack......POTC referance? lmao
Aye, but at least they were good-looking disappointments, right?
I mean seriously, for the first hour of gameplay I though Fable II was just absolutely amazing beyond comprehension.
@malscyllis yes, yes they do!
Rest easy, Total Biscuit
So, from what you've explained to me is that you DON'T know what the < sign is? WOW you need to be in school more often then I originally thought, kid.
There isn't a backstory to Minecraft. Just that enderdragon part.
No worries its alright, everyone is idiot and smart at the same time!
Total Biscuit!
'Powers of will (possible pun moving on)' TotalBiscuit's was the best to use for that quote... XD
I thought those original three heroes were called the Triumvirate?!
50 years
i dont remeber any of that happening
8 years since posted
YT recomandations : Hey watch this fable clip

1:02
Lmao, nice reference
God Biscuit's voice is so good.
All time
in this wizard kings last battle he used a magical sword to defeat someone(cant remember if it was jack) and both he and his mistical sword are lost. the evil sword is different from the one used by the king. in lost chapters, the sword of legend can be found if you choose to be pure and give up the black sword used by jack. the rest of the amily's line is realy a diluted form of the great beings that the blacksmith mated with before they dissapeared, leading to the events of the game in 1996
while there are 2 books in lost chapters that can be found that detail the mad court and jacks villiany, the actual family comes from the liniage of a human man and one that is only described as an energy being... sound familliar?
this bloodline came to fruition in the form of a grand wizard(ant remember) that is described in another book in the game. from what i remember, he was a great hero of will and strength and skill who devoted himself to rooting out all evil.
the way i understand it:
the land of albion, before the time of the old kingdom was ruled by a race of energy beings called the meckburs(or something)...
there was a mass rebelion against these creatures and years later a boy is given a mission to find the secrets of this great people and ultimately succedes to ind the key to their power but never gives the power to his masters or those who gave him the task of finding it. further more, he's executed for murder and nothing of history is resolved
It was ok, at the beginning you get the essence from the original fable, at least giving us the original and beloved children beginning, but after some missions all the game turn to be a really stupid cliche, the idea was grate, i was very exited wen i saw the first trailer, until I reached the middle of the game, I was more disappointed of Lion Head, even more disappointed then nickelodeon wen they cancelled Invader Zim.
