👆 Welcome to Guitars & Gear With Pete & Rabea.
Today Rabea & Pete plug in to the Universal Apollo Twin and the new Fender 55 Tweet Deluxe plug in.

By far, with the right hardware, this is the most realistic Tweed Deluxe plugin I've ever seen.
It sounds way way better when it's in the unison position instead of a traditional plug in position.
I agree I just wish I could easily use the unison with this but also record it direct so I can re amp if I need to.
Split the signal coming from your guitar with a box and run a dry signal in at the same time. Then just mute the dry signal. 👍🏼
I wish they didi it like that
I'm about a 30 min drive away from Scotts Valley CA, where UA is based out of. I was studying as an audio tech student at our local community college who have a partnership with UA. We had access to all of the UA plugins as well as an Apollo Quad. We got to visit their place up in Scotts Valley and they showed us things they were working on, including their new studio, which at the time was just starting to be built. It was pretty incredible to say the least.
lovley sound...but petes playing is reason enough to watch these vids. stunning
I've been checking out other videos of this plugin and it does sound better than what we're hearing in this video. It's almost like we're hearing the amp without cab modelling, but we can clearly see and hear them changing models.
Anderton reviews are so great as you get guitars so well. Thanks guys! 😀
Absolutely blown away by that. Madness.
Glad to see the Victory V44 in the background. Really curious about it. Now we know a review is surely coming. Cheers, guys!
Please do more plugin reviews... Great new content, much appreciated.
Great demo gentlemen.
I have the Apollo with the 55 Deluxe plugin and love them. The one downer for a Twin-duo owner is that this plugin eats DSP, so adding other plugin instances is tight at best. It is inevitable that Fender will release a Twin Reverb or a Princeton at some point, so some in the amp Reverb/Trem will make a huge difference. Hopefully we won't have to wait 2 years!
STill waiting!!!
You should have used the unison slot for these amps, it emulates (with relays) the proper input impedance of the specific amp, thus it sounds and feels even more realistic.
Yes! It would sound even more authentic!
Exactly, they used the inserts. It really makes a difference.
I was looking for this comment. I sometimes use a preamp like a Neve 1073 in the Unison and an insert into the Amp but yeah, having the amp sim in the Unison feels amazing for practicing and jamming.
IMHO, one can't judge this Plugin based solely on a UA-cam Video.
I know Rabea and Pete have great ears, and I believe and trust their honest assessment of how stunning the Fender '55 Tweed Deluxe Plugin sounded in their room, but if you have any doubt, why don't you download the Demo for a the 14 day free trial period, and you judge how good or bad it sounds for yourself.
I purchased the Plugin, as well as the Woodrow '55, and as my application is strictly for recording, after I learned how to use all the controls properly on the Plugin, I sold the Woodrow. I think its GUI is great/fun to use, and it allows you to select the Inputs either one at a time, or bridge them with a virtual Patch Cable. In addition, you can swap out the Mics on both the Instrument and Mic Inputs, and you can change the Mic angle as well.
In conclusion, I'm more than happy with how stunning it sounds!
Pete, That would be Cinnamon girl by Neil Young.
BTW the default free Marshall is also pretty good and if you don't buy any amp plugin - you can get away with anything except for the tweed sound. I had to just get this and all is good.
Building your own 5E3 clone amp can be done very inexpensively (most full kits are $600~$800 depending on speaker load out), compared to $1300 for a Deluxe 57 reissue head. So that's the easy part. The hard part is the rather expensive microphone locker this plug-in utilizes, which is easily thousands of dollars (just for the R121 and U67). Anybody who records in general already has an SM57 or SM58, so that's not difficult. For the most affordable option in a home studio, a Rode NT-1a or similar high-quality large diaphragm condenser microphone could easily stack up to R121 and U67 tones depending on placement.
Assuming you can grab all this stuff used, you're still probably looking at $1000 to recreate what this $200 plug-in does. I would love to see a shootout between this plug-in and the nearest Logic Pro Amp Designer model (my guess would be the "Small Tweed Combo") just to see how above and beyond the Universal Audio plug-in really is.
when using such software, how do you prevent the static hum? I know you can EQ some frequencies out, but it really damages the overall sound in my opinion. Any ideas guys?
Pete you didn't put it in the unison spot in the video. It'd the slot above the 4 inserts.
Unison makes a HUGE difference. It would load your pickups and react to your playing and the guitars output differently than using it as a standard insert effect. Add an Ocean Way reverb on the aux bus and you're golden. They should have done a little more homework. Not expecting a new video with an actual demo......Or am I?
Nice demo, but why not putting it into Unison slot and thus not having properly impedance and gain staging handled properly by the preamp?
Does this plugin with Uad apollo interfaces for free or you need to buy it seperately?
Tweeds aren't my favorite but this sounded decent.. I've found that most modelers don't breathe or sag like the real thing. I haven't really used software amps in a while but from what I remember they were all pretty bad for low gain tones.. clean and high gain sounded pretty good.. the only one I remember having great low gain tones was Alien Connections Revalver, Peavey bought them a few years ago and have been updating the revalver software since.
How do you not clip the fader??
Also In the daw , I think the signal is pretty damn hot
Sick.... for a plug-in. I may have to get this; tweed sounds at home as the kids do homework and go to bed... Yes Please!
Why not demo in Unison?
you say this cant be beat but have you tried scuffham s-gear?
niiiiice!!!
great sounds!!
cheers
Wow! Rebea looks like a different person now!
I really like this plugin but I find it surprising how the two volume controls are far less interactive than on my actual 5e3 amp.
I'm surprised neither of you recognised the cinnamon preset as referring to the Neil Young guitar tone on Cinnamon Girl.
Has that kinda clippy fuzzy high end I often hear in plugins. Sounds almost like the input of the preamp clipping
Isn't that more of a tweed thing rather than a software thing?
If you take a look at the right of the plugin: The Master is actually clipping a bit towards the end :/
Doesnt it give some sort of delay between you playing and the actual sound going through the laptop speaker ?
They mention it in the video. The Apollo Console is actually a kind of remote for the built-in DSP in the interface, which is optimized for low latency. So the signal chain is kinda like Guitar -> Apollo Pre -> DSP -> Monitors for the room sound. The recording is done in Logic, but for monitoring, the sound doesn’t actually go to the laptop and back.
+Christoph Bach mb sorry ! ty !
Latency is unnoticeable with good hardware like this. Not cheap though.
Damn ...... I can't afford to go and buy more gear right now, and am an old dude who isn't quite up to date on the "latest " digital stuff...... Who also started guitar just a couple years back.... Lol .... All that being said I want to play with the new toy too! Guess I'll settle for my mustang 3 amp and laptop for now ...
would this plugin work with any other interface or does it gave to be run with an apollo interface?
they mentioned it at the end of the video that it's exclusive to the apollo interface
Thanks, missed that bit. Not worth investing in a £500 interface on top of the plugin for me. Amplitube has an excellent Tweed Deluxe for a lot less investment!
Kind of sounds like it's clipping sometimes? The audio seems weird on this one.
Yes, rather limited dynamic and not the smooth compression of the real amps.
I have this plugin and I noticed this right when I started using it. It kind of annoys me, though if you play with tone, eq and the mic placement/levels, you can reduce it a little bit. Anyone has any idea on how to completely erase it?
How are you listening to it, through the laptop speakers?
they said they were listening through some small KRK monitors.
+Helter Skelter haha, yeah I should have watched further before commenting.
They using studio monitors.
Could've done with a bit of reverb in Logic, sounds too dry and harsh without at least a little ambience...
You don't have to use the Logic reverbs if you don't want to, the Apollo comes bundled with a great reverb that you can put into a send. I believe it's called RealVerb Pro, and it works great with the Fender plugin.
You can build your own 5e3 for $600 or less. Half of that for just the circuit. There are more than a few load boxes on the market if you want to record direct to your daw. I'd sooner have the real thing.
That is true, and Ceriatone builds amps as well.
playing 1a / sound of the plug in 2b ....
wow!
I love technology
Half way through, I think the chaps normally has a much better sound. I can see from the other comments that people like it, but I'm not convinced :)
Listening on earphones this sounds horrible to me but maybe it is ok thro speakers as it sounds like it's clipping almost
Amp vs plugin is like a fine lady vs internet porn.
Hmm. Can't say I like the sound of that.
I love how you guys don't have a clue about the technology or to handle it. But you more than make up for that with you mean guitar playing. :)
The plug responds like a real amp cus of the unison pre technology and impedance matching :) Google neil young Cinnamon gear: get with the 60's guys :)
People have recorded albums with shitty line 6 stuff and I didn't read any complaints anywhere. So - minimum 600,- for the interface and another 130 - 150 for this "one amp" plugin - abd violá! You just gave the finger to any reasonable musician who uses this amount of money to buy a new guitar or a new amp or - if he's into digital stuff - one of the many very good sounding (not that good - but just good enough) alternatives in amp-sim software. Including a new Computer and a focusrite or steinberg interface.
that sound ok for practice
So, the 55 million dollar question is, how much is this going to cost?
Cos I bet this isn't 1 of those freebie VST plugins.....
Jammy Git $250
Marshall is free
infowetrust - Thanks mate, I don't think I'll be buying that anytime soon it's a bit overpriced IMO.
Where can you get the Marshall for free?
Jammy Git It comes with the UA interface
Oh ok thanks, I don't have 1 of those I'm sorry to say.
I have something called ampire or something, it came with my Presonus interface / Studio One.....apart from that I have to watch youtube to find the free VST's and download crappy amp sims from the internet 😆
Alternative title: Eric Clapton hates this one weird guitar plugin!
The emulation is top notch. I think they nailed it. But the actual amp sounds pretty bad to begin with. I know a lot of people love these amps but I'm not one of them. There are some pretty cool sounds in there but certainly not something I've been longing for.But they have showed pretty clearly that they are capable of making great sounding amp sims. Let's hope for a blackface next!
interesting
Dudes. This sounds horrible. You should really re-record this demo. I don't know what happened here, but I have this plugin and it doesn't sound anything like this. Andertons usually records stuff really well, but the person signing off on this couldn't possibly have listened. Somewhere a UAD-representative is shaking his head, I'm sure. They should call the Captain. This isn't up to Andertons or UAD standards.
Maybe it's cause its through UA-cam. You should make a video and post it so we can see how it sounds :)
This plugin sounds great but you really need to tweak it a lot to get to a decent sound.
One word: Kemper
Sorry guys but it sounds like the levels are clipping, it doesn't sound great. Cheers!
Have it, but got very tired of it, its not good in the mix
Doesn't sound that good. You may have the input too high.
This sounds really bad. I doubt it's the same thing you guys are hearing in the room because this is way below the normal sound quality of your videos.
Ugh, I must say that sounds awful. Nothing like the real Deluxes I had. Fizzy and compressed top end, not the lush fatness of the amp. Sorry, not even a good approximation.
Sounds just like amplitube but UA is alot more expensive.
It sounds a lot different from Amplitube. Which one you prefer is a matter of taste, but they don't sound at all the same.
To much talking
Sounds horrible. Period.
Sorry but this sounds awful. Like a prototype for line 6 Pod x2 or similar.
I have heard another video of this plug-in and it sounds totally different. This video sounds bad. I cannot remember where I heard it, maybe check the Univ. Apollo site.
But Line 6 are great amps........
Well, they modeled an awful sounding amp. But they did it really well!
Man, these guys make this plug in sound like complete shiy! Probably shouldn't have posted this.
Listening to this through top quality DynAudio speakers in my studio.
The sound you are getting is really nasty, very ragged and distorted
I think younger players have no concept of what older guitar amps should sound like.
A poor quality video. That sounds lousy.
I would not buy this product based upon the mauling your players gave it.
Let them go back to the High gain Marshall's, the vintage tweed sounds are wasted on you.
>Blaming the players for you not liking the software
Yeah no buddy, watch any of their vids with tweed amps
