Used to see them at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. The Minnesota crowd there absolutely loved them and the applause after each song would go on and on. They were some of the best concerts I have ever seen.
@@bgzack problem with the roaches as they had no idea what Dynamics were and screamed every song. Their satire and sarcasm were great many of their songs really suffered because they lacked for whatever reason the Dynamics that would have put much more musical nuance into their recordings. probably the exception to that would be their we three kings Christmas album which couldn't be better if anyone tried.
Metrobilbao I'm sure they were well aware of dynamics. Their power is in the power of their harmonies. They weren't messing about. The best harmony band in my eyes too.
Just remarkable. It will remain a mystery to me why they weren't massive stars but I'm grateful they played at all because they've lit up my life. Thank you.
Remember the competition - changing times and extremely unpredictable trends in music - find the year their albums came out and what they were up against - glad they stayed together and made so many records! As Maggie said in an interview about their plans (3rd or 4th LP?), "We just want to stay in business."
Wow. What a tough audience. What a tough compere! Feels like it was a crazy mix of confused folks, disinterested folks and folks who really appreciated what they were seeing and hearing. Wow. Well done Roches. Terre at 13 mins (Good luck getting a ticket to see us!) Spot on. . . a year or so later folks had caught on to just how good The Roches were.
I think the audience was trying to figure it out. The intro was perfect but when they launched into religion and then politics, well, always a tricky thing especially if an audience is unfamiliar and/or uncomfortable with certain aspects of these. IMHO this is why the audience was restrained.
Let the other 40,000,307 people who want to, get famous. The Roches helped wire my brain for sound as a baby and small child. Love these women like prophets.
They're sisters and very musically inclined. Good musicians, and they probably practiced together for hours on end since they were young. Don't know that for sure, but it sounds like it.
Revisiting these 3 ladies after Jerks On the Loose came up on my playlist yesterday and made me smile and cry at the same time. RIP Maggie. Suzzie, Terry, you need to know how much you women meant to me and still do!
They were crazy influential in my formative years (I was born in the early 80s and my mom was already a fan). She knew we'd be able to sing harmony if we could sing along to their songs, and she was right. I love them to tears. RIP Maggie, f**king phenomenal songwriter.
What a night, with the amazing Jack Hardy, RIP, opening, in the Social Room in the Student Union. I had a hand in booking that show, and it's a night I'll never forget, including our tour with the Roches of Binghamton "night life" after the show (first, to Fitzy's Irish Bar, and then to the Red Oak Diner for a meal!). Great times.....................
How in hell I've heard about The Roches before. It's not like I'm listening to top 10 radio... Want to sing Handel's Messiah? You need a 200 signers, 4 voices choir. "We're three. we'll manage." Or the female version of "hold my beer".
I just discovered them, thanks to Bandits on the Run... Wow, they were great! I don't know why I didn't know about them back in the day, but from what I can gather in the comments they weren't super mainstream so maybe that's why... Anyway, thanks for sharing this wonderful video!

Well, THAT'S A relief! At least we know Chevy Chase is dumb as a Post- but he'll be back later - don't worry about that one 👍 WHEW! The egos of some of these dorks? He was a good MC at Live Aid- acted like he was taking questions (from 110K± people)- "Any questions?" ..."Yeeess, I'd say if hair's growing there, you're probably doing it too much. Next?" & more - but this was the wrong one for CHEVY FKG CHASE🌟⭐ hey! Please...
How old are you? Did you live through the 1970s to understand the cultural and social context? Those were VERY different times than the overtly sexualized performers of today.
I was at the Saturday night live show in 1979 i was 18 I have loved them ever since. Now my granddaughter loves them, awesome.
I love the Roches so hard. Their brilliance is blinding.
HUGE FAN since the late 80's. so good
I literally just heard of them the other day. They're amazing!

Utterly unique ! I love the Roches. So sorry Maggie has gone. Bless you Terre and Suzzy !

Never heard about them before this day. Why am I not surprised to see Robert Fripp name....
Used to see them at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. The Minnesota crowd there absolutely loved them and the applause after each song would go on and on. They were some of the best concerts I have ever seen.
What a gem of a video. What a sad loss that Maggie is gone and this unique trio is forever lost. But how wonderful they were!!!
The world's best ever harmony band ever. Life changing music. Incredible talent. Inspiring, obscure, undiscovered gems.

Awesome, life changing... inspiring yes!!! Best...... NAHWEY !!! So many much better.... Beach Boys, Bee Gees, 4 Freshman..... to name 3

Their Christmas CD is a great disc and a prize in my collection. Love their harmonies!

The Roches helped wire my brain for sound as a baby and small child. Love these women like prophets.
love that this still exists!
omg, I am forever changed by these women.
How great to see this early acoustic performance of the Roches. I've been a fan since I saw them on PBS Soundstage years ago.
my god... how do they do that with their harmonies.... this is the best vocal group that has ever exited
They're sisters and very musically inclined. Good musicians, and they probably practiced together for hours on end since they were young. Don't know that for sure, but it sounds like it.

quirkiest pitch perfect ensemble there ever was
I saw them so many times at the Bottom Line. I had to see them when they were playing. Miss them a lot!
Fantastic! Will never forget the concert at SUNY Binghamton in 1981

Mountain People in 3 part ❤️❤️❤️
its like watching their album cover perform, wow...
Glad someone else sees it, lol
I have got down on my knees and scrubbed behind the Steam Table! Some say they sound screetchy, but they sang the truth.
What a gem, so glad I found this. Thanks so much for posting
They are strangely unique and most definitely talented. I’m certainly charmed by them.
saw them at the Bottom Line that tour .. still one of my favorites 38 years on .. always will be !
Bread & Roses, Berkeley Greek Theatre - probably 1978 - they stole the show looking and sounding just like this (well, in color, as I recall!)
This is amazing.
So much talent!
I stumbled on this on 12/4/22, their "birthday".
Shit’s tight

I love the weird harmonies
Sarcastic lyrics once in a while, on beautiful melody lines, and with the weird harmonies, YES!
Love their sound. Saw them in Troy, NY many years ago. Did you know Robert Fripp produced their first album ?
Fripp also produced their third album :-)
Didn't know that. Will have to give another listen.
hallelujah YEAH
Suzzy was so adorable here, pulling on her hair
❤
check out their harmonies on "there goes rymin simon
Was a Sunny Day
Chevy Chase fumbling their introduction, lol....
wow 1978!?!?!?!
❤❤💔
Shame you can’t hear Maggie very well during the Hallelujah chorus
Chevy Chase introducing them?
He's a twit.
Can’t believe how uninterested the audience was! Folks clapping that it’s their last song!! Wow. Undeserving!!
Jim Croce in the house..❤
There's not Enough Payote in The American Southwest to make this act watchable.
The Hammond song is pretty good though

I think I would like to be their boyfriend.
Why do they go for the look that says, "We never bathe"? They're so lovely. A better look would have gone a long way.
How the HELL do you know what I would do if they were male? You don't. You're just projecting your own desire to see sexism everywhere. Pathetic.
How old are you? Did you live through the 1970s to understand the cultural and social context? Those were VERY different times than the overtly sexualized performers of today.
If they did that they would just be another one of those.
LazlosPlane: Because they care not a jot what idiots like you think about them.
