Heard this on the radio a few nights ago and had to find out more. I actually thought it was a brand new band! It keeps popping back into my head all week. So damn clever and so damn addictive!
@@obamna666 It was either the Tom Dunne show on Newstalk or else late night RTE1 radio. I'm in Ireland, they're both Irish stations. I just remember the dj said something like "Here's an Irish American sibling group from New Jersey called the Roches. I'll leave it to them to tell you everything else you need to know about them.." Then, the song started and I was hooked!
The other day after watching this, I ran into an article written some years later, in which Suzzy said that at this point, even _she_ doesn't remember what the other one did instead. 🤷🏻♀️
Loved them the first time I heard this song - read about the album in a British newspaper - on its release - bought it and was totally bowled over. Hitch-hiked to Ireland with this music playing in my head the whole time.
Also here because of the sad event. They really made me grow as a musician and introducing them to new people was sometimes like a battlefield... and I almost always won.
I have not heard of them since the early 80s thought I was seeing a punk rock band in lower Manhattan The Roaches .Boy was I wrong stayed for the whole show but never heard of them after that.
I remember first seeing 2 of the Roches on the Tonight Show with Johhny Carson. I rediscovered them with this album. I love the Roches! Got to see them in concert once. I have tshirt somewhere. RIP dear Maggie.
Having looked at 5 colleges in NYC and made visits to them in 1978 I know exactly what they meant by "we better get out before the shit hits the fan". I lived there in the late 1980s and still caught some of the end of it.
these women captured my attention in the '70s, and I've stayed pretty stalwart in my admiration since those days. It's sort of disastrous how unkind the years have been to them. In any event, I have my discs and records to get me through the Roche-less times.
What was the cinematographer thinking when he shot this? He starts off leaving off Terre and you hardly ever see the three from the front singing and when he does it is not zoomed. It's counter to what hte song is about.

Bizarrely and almost inexplicably, you just made me think of our family friends the Couches, whose family slogan was in our house, you may sit on the sofa or any divan, but never a Couch."
Brings back memories

What radio station were you listening to that plays the Roches in the 2020s? I gotta tune in!

Hope you kept exploring. They have so many great songs :)
@obamna666 our local college radio in the tc area of Michigan played a song or two by them
I was at this! They were there with Dustin Hoffman, Chevy Chase and Harry Chapin-for Bill Bradley who was running for a political position.
So many unanswered questions
I really wanted to know if they knew anyone famous.
@@dakotaberry same!

Thanks, Maggie, for sharing your beautifully quirky talents. May you rest in peace.
I loved how they voiced their insect counterparts on "Tiny Toon Adventures"!

Can't believe I finally remembered these girls. Had a vague memory of this song from the 70s. Been wracking my brain for weeks.
I discovered The Roches watching a PBS program back in the day. Enjoy.

I loved when they were on tiny toons
Rest in Peace Maggie.

I can't stop listening to this song! :D
Ah, what a great sound. I absolutely love these ladies, so cute and clever and zany and zappy....
This is amazing music.

Would love having a t-shirt, but I'll settle for the memory of the concert in Fort Worth.
My mom had their album. Great group!
Discovered ... and saw them at a club when they toured in support of “The Roches”. (1st LP with Suzzy). Mesmerized by their familial harmonies.
My heart...
god bless MAGGIE - i always like you best...but don't tell anyone!!

Would love to watch the whole concert if they had one. Would pay money
They did do concerts. I saw them twice at the Guthrie Theater.
Priceless stuff
Undoubtedly and sadly it is now.
terribly disappointed this wasnt on the Rhino collection. statement of purpose for the Roches!

banger
Such good stuff. Nobody like 'em!
I first heard about them on an episode of "Tiny Toons" where they were potrayed as "Roaches"..
I first heard of them on Tom Snyder's show. I saw them a couple of times at the Guthrie.

🎥📹oh wide-angle where art thou
It's clearly an amateur video.
I mean this in the best way possible, but this song sounds like The Shaggs.
They never did answer the question: do they know anybody famous😠
And what did Suzzy do instead? Just... go to college?
