  • Just reviewing 4 of my favorite gins (Oxley, The Botanist, Ransom Old Tom & Monkey 47).
    If you enjoy my reviews and want even more, join me at my LiquorHound Patreon channel (link in the barrel picture on my homepage or / liquorhound . There you'll get an extra 30-40 videos per year, in addition to the 10-12 that I've always done here.
    As of 9-2017, my current bottle count stands at over 2,400 bottles. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for the last two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thanks! I had several things pop up over the last month or so, and they kept me busy (family coming in from the hurricane, family members in hospitals, etc...). Fortunately, everything seems to have turned out okay and I should be back on track soon. Cheers!

    Just gotta say, I'm always so impressed at the level of detail you pour into your reviews. Even got the pronunciation of Islay right! Your palette has yet to let me down, so I'll have to look for Oxley!

    get the ransom, I am not a gin lover, but when I randomly bought a bottle to use as a mixer, I made it into a neat dram only instead. amazing.

    I'm always on the lookout for a smooth gin that doesn't taste like pine tree. I made my own 'spiced vodka' and omitted juniper all together. It turned out very tasty! Otherwise my favorite gin for a dry martini is Plymouth. Favorite for a Gin & Tonic is tanqueray #10.

  • @Spirited1

    Greenhook Ginsmiths American Dry Gin is a wonderful gin I enjoy neat or with a proper tonic water. Citrus, juniper, baking spice. Crisp and bright. Bottled at 47%ABV. Distilled and bottled in Brooklyn, NY. Sells for between $30-$35 US. The Botanist gin (Bruichladdich Distillery) is also a lovely sipping gin from the distillers of a wonderful Islay single malt Scotch whisky. Thanks LiquorHound for sharing your expertise and Spirit insights!

    Try "Uncle Vals" for a delightfully upfront citrus flavour. $32-$35. There's a reason it is often sold out on the shelf.

    I know it's cheaper and maybe not so sophisticated, but I keep coming back to Beefeater, after explorations into other gins, but I'm on a tight budget. I will get some The Botanist, however, next time out.

    Oh you would probably have super hard time digging that one out but if you can, Ferdinands Gin is absolutely fantastic and definitely puts a new twist on modern Gin! Also one coming from Germany, just further up North from the wine producing region named Mosel...Infused with Riesling as part of the recipe but also from other spices/barks/roots surrounding the vineyards, they also make wonderful white wine and then use the leftover product as part of the recipe ;)

    X-gin is crazy unique, I also really enjoy Brockmans. I'm from Scotland and have had the botanist, different bottle style here though, Recommended to drink with fresh mint. Me personally it wasn't for me, i was a nice enough gin but didn't quite live up to its slightly higher price tag at £32, I didn't feel anything special about it basically.

    Botonist, not a huge fan. Has a crazy high number of botanicals, like 2 or 3 times more than most gins. The issue I have is with so many botanicals it’s like it doesn’t know what’s it’s trying to be. It’s very complex but not on a good way. It’s not bad, it’s just not for me. But I’m more of a gin and tonic guy. Sipsmith and Highclere Castle are incredible. Haymans is solid too. Sipsmith is my number 1 though.

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, exactly the same. Now here's something else that's crazy. Ransom Gin and his Whippersnapper both work well with Diet Coke. I know that sounds ridiculous, but a buddy of mine is a Jack & Diet Coke drinker and he stumbled on that when he was out of Jack (desperate times call for desperate measures). ;-) Anyway, he told me about it and said I had to try it. I was really surprised by how well they hid the saccharin taste (which I don't enjoy). Cheers!

      @@LiquorHound that's great. I started cocktails just trying to see what I like. I dont get out a lot and I've made a lot of cocktails for just me and father in law. I landed on gin being my favorite so I'm trying to branch to all types of gin. Mostly just sticking with Gin and Rye cocktails. Knowing I can make a gin old fashioned with Ransom old tom is steller
