  • Here I review 25 and 30 year old Delord Bas Armagnacs side-by-side. The 25 year retailed around $85-$100, and was distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2015. The 30 year (Vintage 1981) retailed around $125 and was bottled in 2011. Armagnacs in general are great buys, and these two further emphasize that.

    As of March 2018, my current bottle count is over 2,400. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for the last two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thank you for watching and sharing in my passion.

    Hey LiquorHound, I started watching your videos around 5 years ago or so. I was mainly into Bourbon, but has its been harder and harder to get good bottles. I've started venturing out to other spirits. I think Armagnac's, Rum's, and Mezcal's seriously go under the radar. While everyone is out trying to chase their Wellerz, there are nearly 40 year old Armagnac's sitting on the shelves for less than $200. I'm not sure if you've already done videos, but it'd be great to have an introduction to Mezcal. Its pretty daunting for a new comer to try and decipher all the agave types, distillation, cooking methods etc. Anyways thanks for all the videos, cheers!

      Fast fwd to 2023, snap up those vintage Armagnacs before those guys in Asia starts snatching them. When they show off 25, 30, 40yr ones, u'll have ur stash of vintage bottles at very very reasonable price

    I've been looking forward to you reviewing Cognacs and Armagnac. I discovered the Delord 25 yr old a few years ago and thought it was an amazing bargain, less than $70 in my area. Would love to try the 30. I have enjoyed your reviews for many years and always look forward to new ones. I would love to see some reviews of amaros since they are one of my favorite drinks.

      I know you do guys. Did you ever get a chance to buy my recommendation of the Domaine Boingneres? The 1986 Folle Blanche is a jewel (28 years old) bottled at 49%. The 1985 is a blend but very good too. A top producer.

    Thanks for the Armagnac education. I don’t own any, but may explore some based on your video. Could you please do a video on when and how you gas your bottles?

    LH, I bought the 25 yr at Total Wine for $55 and the 30 yr goes for $85..
    First time I've ever had an Armagnac. I definitely get peach on the back end of the 25 yr. Certainly an interesting spirit for the value for sure. Great review.

    Now your collection is phenomenal, I do have to ask though, what is your day job? Are you a Som? Tell us about yourself, I think we all kind of would like to know. Thanks and keep up the good reviews.

    Just got the 25 and you are spot on with the Big Cinnamon. Have tried it twice which has taken it down to bottom of the shoulder of the bottle. Think I will now put it away and let oxidation do it's work for a few months and see what happens. Got mine for $70 at total wine, the 1981 vintage 30 yr is $85 Looking forward to seeing what happens. Cheers.

      Ok so after two months it seemed to have settled down and have very balanced flavors, so good. now we are almost at three months I will have to check in again with it to see where it is. This is so good now and am so glad I watched this video before buying and tried some then let it settle down and become fantastic. Such a deal for a 25 year old spirit compared to well just about anything else. Cheers

    Well I must admit not being very knowledgeable on Armagnac's , liked the review enough that when shopping today I picked up a couple of the Delord's ,they were the 15 yr min aged XO but glad I did and the prices are very reasonable . Now on the hunt for the 25 and 30 yr olds. Thanks again and Cheers

    Hello liquor hound. Great video review, one thing I took away from it, was how you are perserving your bottles. May I ask how do you "gas" your opened bottles?

      Thanks! Here's an old video of mine where I talked about oxidation and the wine spray you can use for smaller collections (starts at the 4:22 mark): ua-cam.com/video/VWYYGS4wStQ/v-deo.html . Since I have too many bottles to rely on the wine spray cans, I use a large argon tank setup. Here's a video that shows it (starts at the 10:18 mark): ua-cam.com/video/vGic-_cI5FM/v-deo.html . Cheers!

Many thanks sir, keep up the good work!

    Could you tell me what the difference is between the Delord Vintage 30 and the Delord l'Authentique 30 year old Bas Armagnac? Besides price and proof (The l'Authentique is $99.99 near me and bottled at 45.9%, while the Vintage ranges between $109.99 and $129.99 and bottled at 40%)? I'm a fan of higher proof, and lower prices, but wonder if there is a significant difference in these two differently labeled 30 year old Delords.

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  5 років тому +1

      I've only had the vintages, but if you can get a higher abv 30 year old for less money, that seems like a deal. Besides, I've never really had a "bad" Delord Armagnac. It being bigger, I'd imagine it just may take a bit more time to oxidize to taste its best. Cheers!

      @@LiquorHound Thanks for the reply. I found a description and it appears to be a blend of different armagnacs with an average age of 30 years, or something like that. So, some older and some younger possibly. I'll let you know how it is when I decide to pull the trigger.

    How do you gas them to preserve them?

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  4 роки тому +2

      To prevent oxidation (some say degradation) of my open bottles, I keep a close eye on cork conditions and use a tank setup of a heavy inert gas (argon) to reseal all my bottles after every pour. Now for smaller collections/home bars, I'd recommend using a wine preserver (like "Private Preserve") to help protect the opened bottles. You can buy them from Amazon for about $10 and they say you can get 120 uses out of one. They recommend a 1 sec. spray followed by 3-4 small bursts, but when I was using them I sprayed them heavy (2 seconds long and 3-4 short bursts), so I only got 70-80 good seals per can. The key to using gas is that you do not disturb/move the bottle once it's gassed (which will disrupt the gas layer). Here's an old video of mine where I talked about oxidation and the spray (starts at the 4:22 mark): ua-cam.com/video/VWYYGS4wStQ/v-deo.html . To see the larger argon tank that I use, here's a video that shows my setup (starts at the 10:18 mark): ua-cam.com/video/vGic-_cI5FM/v-deo.html . Cheers!
