I feel like most people are so busy trying to record the moment so they can relive it in the future, that they forget to fully live it now and then while it’s actually happening.
There are several cases in which one band member leaves and his replacement does it really great, and gives a whole new direction and vibe to the band, sometimes the band itself gets better and better...This is not the case, i'm not saying KoRn lost everything, but just like Head said when he came back, 'There is a KoRn sound that is meant to be' and without David, that sound doesn't exist, don't get me wrong, Ray is a kickass drummer, but David was, is and will always be THE perfect drummer for KoRn.
Slipknot replacing Joey with Jay worked but Korn replacing David hasn’t…Jay was able to keep the character of the old songs and being intensity to their new music but it’s not the same with Ray replacing David…he uses too much fills and ruins the old songs and he has no chemistry with Fieldy…

Hell, Slipknot started going down hill after Paul's death. Paul was highly underated. Once you mess with the chemistry of the band, there's no going back.

Head had his little pussy fit about addiction then released and wrote a solid album on his own, but basically used effects and session players to do most of the heavy lifting!!! Ofcourse it wasn't long after that he quickly gets down on his knees and begs them to let him back in. Seeing as he didn't dis-respect them and they knew it was a great decision for their reputation and would boost sales they happily took him under their wing. It's all hush hush, but it's clear as day they only make decisions like business men. props to head for positive vibes and change, but no respect for people who engineer music to bring people cheap thrills. They could of found better suited labels, but chose the one who would back them better even though it means they are micromanaged. People change, and unfortunately allot of people grow tired over the years. I think the rest of the band just wasn't as passionate about writing quality music as David was, so grew tired after a few years of touring. Allot of tired and weary musicians lose their edge and start letting labels do most of the work so they can put minimal effort into the craft white getting paid more. It's the sad reality. David chose the music, korn chose the business. That's why korn rarely pumps out anything worth even listening too these days, and when they do it's usually a hit most old fans forget after a year or two... but hey, what do I know? I'm someone who grew up in the 90's when nu metal/alternative metal was accepted in mainstream circles... These days it's become another underground niche. Getting less and less popular each year.

So much power and groove, KoRn were never the same without him. Ray may be better on a technical level, but David is the better drummer for KoRn by far and he was absolutely instrumental to their sound.

But basically a session musician, with no "own language", with no idea what was Korn music, that had to learn David's parts to get the gig.

@twiztidlestat Korn's self titled and 'Life Is Peachy' both have a decent amount of double bass work in them, especially the self-titled record. I'm sure you could argue that he could've used more of it, but he is a great groove drummer.

I don't think Ray is so technical, in fact in live performances he lose the tempo in all the songs. David had a perfect tempo allways.
