Absolutely the same. I cannot figure out why or how I can watch it literally once every 4-6mths and listen to it excited like the first time….every time.
He throws so much out there with every sentence that makes me smile or laugh, little nudges and nuances that he paints with whether the audience picks up on them consciously or not. The sum, then, is always this buildup of mirth that he coaxes out of us. It’s always a pleasure to buckle in and go on his rides.
@@TheThirdDaySH I saw him live doing the great depresh... not to blaspheme... but that was better... it was so funny throughout and you didn't have the vid clips with his mother interrupting the jokes...
I love this guy. His special The Great Depresh is super funny.....and very real and honest. In a weird way, he's like the comedian version of comfort food to me. He makes me laugh and feel better when I'm down. I think that's in part because I know he himself has dealt with SERIOUS depression. He gets it. He gets how hard life can be.

I've been refreshing videos from the Late night show for the last two hours till Gary's interview would appear. By far, the best story teller in comedy.
Gary Gulman seems like such a great guy! I've been following his career for at least 20 years, and he's just the best! Also, I'm a "bowl girl," so, I appreciate the shout out! LOL!!
Love Gary Gulman! He’s so charismatic and down-to-earth. Wish this was a two-part segment, even if it would mean hearing some of his older jokes/anecdotes. I saw him perform live in D.C. a few months before the shutdown began, he went nonstop for 90 gotdamn minutes! The man was like “I WILL give you your money’s worth, I don’t wanna hear *anyone* complaining after this.” My cheeks & jaw hurt so much from laughing afterwards. 🤍
Me too! I still remember his line about being so tall and people asking "How tall is the mailman?" And his reply of "Thank you for accusing my mother of adultery."
I love Gary. His show was supposed to be in my area a year or so ago and we had a huge snowstorm that I think canceled him there. So near and yet so far. Great success at Carnegie, Gary.
He's also a very nice man. I saw him heading out to dinner before one of his shows. Asked for a photo and he was exactly how you'd imagine he'd be. Polite, courteous, and welcoming. Just a lovely guy. They say don't meet your heroes. I'd say....ehhhh just make sure your hero is Gary Gulman and you're fine.
I'm so excited to suggest my first correction. Gary said the comedy club in Tampa is Gut Busters, but it's actually called Side Splitters. (Although I must admit that was pretty close.)
It's so interesting to see the difference between Gulman's reception on talk shows vs. his stand up. The way he keeps his audience rolling in stitches during normal stand up is a far cry from how you can audibly hear the audience at talk shows not know what to make of him. The Malcolm Gladwell bit for example goes over the audience's heads, just a bit fast for them to pick up on because they don't know what the punchline is, so they don't know if that's where they're supposed to laugh. But during his normal routines, the audience has already been fed so much to laugh at that they're basically on a high throughout his whole routine. The difference between the state abbreviations on the album and on Conan are night and day honestly, and that's saying something profoundly because of how well received his tv routine was. What a gift Gary Gulman is. My favorite comedian hands down.
Don't forget the people who dictate instead of type. I remember seeing Gary Gulman way back when I was in college in Boston. It wasn't his night. He was not famous but probably somewhat known in the comedy clubs there. He was probably sick of doing the same show over and over and there were drunk hecklers. I'm glad he's made it and is still going.
Gary writes and performs in ways I literally think about every single day. The Great Depresh changed my life and makes me laugh every time I serve myself ice cream and see a fork in my utensil cabinet.
Seth, Have you ever considered filming your program as the aftershow of some big concert, then you interview the guests outside the venue, with your set reassembled and guest chairs awaiting, maybe a jackal logo rug.
Gary Gulman is one of the greatest stand ups of his generation or any generation. If you don't know him I highly recommend his stuff. Just UA-cam Gary Gulman, watch a half hour of his material, I bet you'll love his comedy.
I haven't seen the one he used to do about how great grapes were as a fruit, and and how horrible grapefruit is as a fruit ("had to borrow the name from grapes".) Classic. I cry tears of laughter every time I see his bits. Kudos to Gary for finally making it to Carnegie Hall. Should have been sooner.🤣
Did it once, and they put steak in my VEGETARIAN burrito, that they knew better because they even wrote vegetarian on the wrapper. On top of that, they doubled the order. So I got TWO f’d up meat burritos. Then they make you call some 1-800 number for a refund, which takes an hour of talking to a middle-aged lonely woman, as she likes to chat about everything and anything like we are an old friend, and the refund doesn’t go through the first time around so you have to call again in a couple days’ time. Not to mention the fact that when I first called in, it was like 9:45pm, and I guess they leave work at 10pm, but the robot kept telling me to hold on while music played, so I was on hold for like 40 mins before I gave up. Worst ever experience ever for ordering online, and will never do it again.
I can imagine some jackal has wired up a manual typewriter as a USB interface. The pure rage of writing can be felt if you've got that end of line swoosh to smack.
This guy should be even more famous than he is. His specials are some of the funniest stand-up I have ever seen.
really heartfelt too!
If you haven't seen him live, you are missing out. Been watching him live since '98 and have tickets for March!!!
He is hilarious!! Right down my comedic alley 😅
Totally agree!!!!
Truly. I watch the state abbreviation documentary set like once a month.
Absolutely love Gary Gulman. "Abbreviating the states" is such a masterpiece I return to time and time again
that one was "meh"
Absolutely the same. I cannot figure out why or how I can watch it literally once every 4-6mths and listen to it excited like the first time….every time.
That whole special, “Trader Joe’s” “phone evolution”, and “role play”, it’s like a greatest hits.
That and the $20 bill in an old coat bit are my favorites.
Gary is like the standup equivalent of Paul Simon, he writes classics you can't hear too much.
He throws so much out there with every sentence that makes me smile or laugh, little nudges and nuances that he paints with whether the audience picks up on them consciously or not. The sum, then, is always this buildup of mirth that he coaxes out of us. It’s always a pleasure to buckle in and go on his rides.

I really like Gary Gulman. Always funny. And I appreciate him being so open about his anxiety and depression, as I struggle w it as well.💛💚💙

He gave young stand up comedians advice and feedback on their joke writing on Twitter if I remember correctly.
I DEMAND that next time Gary's segment take up the rest of the show after "A Closer Look".
He's one of the most memorable comedians, if youve seen him perform you wont forget how funny he is.
What an adorable human being! Just discovered him and cannot get enough of his brilliant mind!
