after testing the instructions i found that the tach is actually supposed to wire to the + side of the coil or it just grounds the sensor wire out making it not work, if the rest of the instructions are followed it will work wired mine into the gauge cluster ground wire and main hot wire on my ignition, seems to work perfectly
@@devond1 test all wires with a multimeter generally the black and red smaller wires are for the gauge light and get wired to your other lights green is ground black/yellow is coil + black is acc/hot install with bullet shrink wrap connectors so you can switch them around in case your specific gauge is slightly different
I am trying to add a digital tach to my 89 Yamaha TW200 but the coil has one positive connection from the CDI and it is grounded on the negative side. connecting the sensor wire to the positive coil wire does not make it work nor does connecting the sensor wire to one wrapped around the spark plug wire like an induction tachometer. Is there a place on the CDI unit or the stator wiring that is safe to connect the signal wire? One that will trigger the digital tachometer? And by digital I mean a number display and not an analog swinging needle.

On This tachometer do you need to hook up a battery, if you were to just hook it up to the ignition coil and nothing else would it work. I know the backlights wouldn’t work but I have a go kart with a 301 predator engine and trying to delay putting a battery on it as long as possible. Great video btw!
What kind of small compact battery could I use if my put bike doesn't already use a battery? Just any 12v battery will work? In that case you know of a decent cheap very small 12v battery? Also piranha 140 what is a good usable rpm range? I don't know about these engines. Redline should be??? Thanks so much

Hi, great video. I tried to install same tachometer on my yamaha bolt. Somehow i screwed up. I connected both pozitives (+) together to coil positive. And i connected both negatives also together to frame. Lights are on but tacho is not working, doesn't move at all. Do you think putting all positives and negatives together causes the problem? Or tachometer is broken maybe.
@@MuscleMinibikeBuilds 3, I kinda got it figured out. Red and black were power and ground. Green found a signal tied to the CDI box. Though after about a day it stopped working the signal jumps all over the place and haven’t had a chance to mess with it again

@@jakep1799 you should be able to find the installation instructions for the vapor you want online, it's either going to have the typical 3 wire tach hook up like I show here or a pulse wire that just wraps around the plug wire and the zs190 has a lighting circuit in its harness included

Let me ask the common collective this… IS there a way, to hook up a tach this style WITHOUT having a battery?? I do not want to put a battery on my mini bike… but I want one of these style tachs. Is there anyway to utilize the coil for the hot side of the tach??

What if the bike has no battery, kickstart only?
It needs a power source, so if you have a regulator rectifier and a 12v output source for lights your good

Anti Gravity Lipo battery however not cheap but the best way to go look Amazon 4,6,8 cell, remember cheap isn't good and good isn't cheap.. 😉👍

Also do you have a normal operation range for the paranah140? Since that's what I want a tach for. To make sure I'm not over it under revving it.

The concept of the wiring is all the same, no matter the size, maker or age of the engine, as long as its wired exactly the same, correct?

If you wired it right and it dose not work it's the tach
The tachometer does not exceed 6000 rpm, although the engine operates at a higher rpm.

Thats not a gy6. The gy6 is the little 50-150cc engine with the cvt.
