“Girl Can't Help It” is the third single off of Journey's 1986 album Raised on Radio. The song tells the story of a guy and a girl who have feelings for each other, but can't start a relationship due to differing priorities and motives.
I was first exposed to Journey sometime after graduating high school in 1981 and was blown away by their sound. Today I am still blown away but so much more appreciative of what this band has created and given to the world. They are truly amazing.
This band gave it all to their fans!!! Truly IMO...the BEST band ever. They made us believe every word of every song. So much fun to be in that audience. I love this song...Steve Perry is HOT!!!🔥🔥🔥No audio tune...no fake anything. Just real musicians playing real music consistently....all the time. Journey On!
Phil, I think this song is about a couple who really love each other but just can't seem to stay together maybe because they just can't communicate. So If he could only hold her so close in his arms again and if she could show him the letter her heart forgot to send; so they have all these feelings for each other but they just keep running because she can't help it she needs more and really he hasn't found what he's looking for. That say's he's not quite ready to commit, so she needs more that's why they're still standing in the rain. There's a fire in his eyes for her, and he wonders why she can't be there with him, and at the same time she still cries for him. So the question continues why do they go on alone when they're missin' each other. Love and relationships are complicated. All I really know is the lyrics are so beautiful, the melody is fire, and just the whole song is phenomenal like all of Journey's play list. There is no chemistry like these trio of vocals/musicians/ writers, Journey fans can sing every song word for word and with the greatest joy. They have more talent in one song than other artist's have over their entire careers. Journey should have a montage of grammies, and been inducted to the RRHOF years before they were. Make's me question all the music industry awards, they don't know what true talent really is cause they sure got this wrong. Also Rolling Stone magazine voted Steve Perry # 76 of top 100 vocalist 🤯really?! Proves my point. Steve is by far the most talented vocalist of his generation, he is THE VOICE.

Even though Raised On Radio was not as well received as their two previous records, Frontiers and Escape you're witnessing how huge this band was, just like you say...they don't have any bad songs. I always felt the song was about 2 people who are connected and possible right for each other but their individual goals and aspirations convince them to be apart for the sake of those dreams.
Followed them everywhere in the 70s and early 80s, Didnt have computers or cable tv back then, So I was def Journey groupie...Beautiful song amazing vocals always...Phenomenal band...Thanx for the memories and reaction...Peace
One of my top 5 Journey songs. PLEASE listen to the album track. As good as these vocals were, the album cut is all Perry, and it's magical. It's simply about a girl who can't commit to the relationship. She likes him, but maybe not just him. Meanwhile loves her and only her.

Aug-86, Mountain Air Music Festival, folks drove me 3 hours for this show, my first concert at 16 seeing my fave band since I was 9, so blessed to have this reminder of that epic day. While a good song, I have to say it's nowhere near the best of their catalog.
