Seems like everybody has their own opinion on the transmission. We have one in our 2017 and 2018 freightliner. It has probably been the greatest achievement in the trucking industry yet. Absolutely amazing transmission. There will always be someone to dis the transmission just wanting to be negative. It beats a Manuel any day of the week. It reduces wear and tear on the truck and powertrain. Take care of your truck and maintence you wont have any issue.

This is a game changer in commercial driving industry. Automatic transmissions get more people into the game who were otherwise intimidated by manual trucks.
This transmission is easy to produce, but once it’s assembled and computers installed it becomes a non serviceable unit where it’s swapped out once it’s service life has been reached.

I work 3 years on Freightliner with transmission DT 12, in the North of Russia, Norway and Finland! DT12 transmission works flawlessly in the bitter cold. I use Japanese oil, very like.

I would love to just stay with my Eaton Fuller 10-speed manual I've had about 12 of them over the years and none of them have ever went wrong... So my company just bought 25 of these new dt12 this should be fun

The automatics of today are not what they used to be. They are much better much smoother and much more reliable. 10 years ago I would never even think about getting into an automatic but today, I can't see myself driving a manual ever. Unless you're hauling extraordinarily heavy loads or you have a specific need to have a manual transmission, you're just giving yourself more work to do. That being said, I'll take my AISIN over the Detroit DT12 any day. The AISIN is way more refined and doesn't make all the stupid noises that the DT12 makes.

After spending several months with this piece of trash that Detroit calls a transmission... I'll stand buy my original statement... My 10 speeds never shifted themselves into neutral and slowed the truck down 5 to 7 MPH before going again... Total garbage!!!

Cant even get main seals for the thing ....they are new but when we have 100k of them out there and they start getting up to the 500k miles mark we shall see how they hang in there....hope the after market picks up where DD willfully screws over the little guy with 1 or 2 trucks. Shame on you Detroit making huge components like a TRANS not serviceable not even selling outer seals is low. Stop this type of practice right to repair should ALWAYS be allowed......period

Other companies should learn from Detroit how a transmission should shift. This thing shifts on demand like a sports truck! While the others take their time shifting. Stops shifting over a tiny little pothole, and removes all power when turning the wheel. God forbid you have to turn. Its not like I'm making a turn at 40 MPH! Including taking its time deciding if you should move once you hit the pedal. Now you have people behind you getting pissed you're just sitting there.

The Detroit 12 is BY FAR the WORST transmission to EVER hit the market...
    No Power
    No Control
No WAY any smart business owner would ever fall for this...
It burns more fuel then a standard
And the backing assist is a joke...
    No Control over the speed
Backing up a hill? Forgot about it ...
Its either slam the dock or watch the thing kick out of backing assist..
The only thing it good for is put unskilled drivers in the seat... U want to fall for this thing that does NOT belong in a semi then go ahead.... Ur not saying fuel this I know...i spent more in fuel then I should....

Worst transmission on a 2018 Cascadia, chokes under a heavy load slow response you have to wait for traffic to be totally clear before entering the highway , 124000 doesn’t know what gear to choose it jumps , shifts up and down on the same incline, I’m sorry but nothing good say about it
And average MPG so far is 6.2
D12 has nothing on a Allison or manual
If as a driver you think this a good transmission then you never driven a 13sp or a Allison

I went from a Volvo with an AISIN transmission that was flawless to a Cascadia with the DT12. If it was my choice, I'd never leave the Volvo. The freightliners are horrible trucks when it comes to driver comfort. The Volvo is fully designed around the driver. That aside, the DT12 is a rough transmission and has a long way to go before I would say that it's refined. I wish I could get my old Volvo back.

I have come to realize now after first driving the DT12 in my trainers 2016 Freightliner Cascadia Evo and then driving my own truck with an Eaton fuller 10 speed automated manual in my 2016 Peterbilt 579, I have found the eaton fuller transmission to be verifiably garbage and almost impossible for most people to use in varyious docking circumstances. The accelerator in the Peterbilt is more like a suggestion pedal where the truck ignores your input for 5 seconds or longer especially when you are accelerating from a stop through a turn. The 10 speed takes 1-3 seconds to decide what gear to be in when accelerating or simply shifts through every single gear sequentially which makes emergency acceleration impossible. The transmission loudly thuds into neutral sometimes when coming to a stop and even shakes the truck. The transmission also forgets to shift or misses the shift and ends up revving to near 2000 rpm on the highway. The worst part about this garbage transmission is that you have to rev up the engine with nearly 35% of the accelerator in order for the transmission to engage the clutch and finally begin to move at all. During this phase of, "find the engagement spot", with the throttle your truck is in neutral and is rolling forwards/backwards and ruining your backing maneuver. If you attempt to hold the brake pedal and then accelerate the truck violently lurches backwards when you begin to move and it knocks everything around in the truck. I would never wish this Eaton fuller POS on my worst enemy.
I never had a single one of these problems with the Detroit DT12.
Fucking awesome and controllable transmission. Haters are just hating because of the brand.

I went from an old 10-speed to a Volvo with an automatic AISIN and now to a Detroit DT12. If you like the DT12, which I consider to be junk, You would love the AISIN transmission in the Volvo. It's way more refined, shifts away smoother and doesn't make all those stupid noises that a Freightliner makes. I think the Volvo in general is way better as far as driver comfort goes.

I don't think driver know how drive the DT-12 mine works great. Lots and f drive very make the mistake of using engine brake in winter then claim the transmission is unsafe. Mine worked great in the winter. The Downhill Mode is even better most drivers don't seem to know about it. You can go downhill without touching the regular brakes !

It's awesome if you want an unresponsive gearbox that shifts when you don't want it to,doesn't shift when you do want it to and can't make up its mind about what gear to be in to pull away from a light or go thru a toll booth, and the very last thing you want is to have this thing in your truck on a snow or ice covered road and if it's anything other than flat level road in winter,be afraid very afraid.
