The mafia put a hit out on Lefty but while in custody of the Fbi and then incarcerated he never told them anything and because of this the hit was called off.
Some things are measured differently than a dollars. This was Hollywood drama. Only Pistone can say. One thing is fact, I grew up in Brooklyn back then as a civilian. These people depicted are real deal and you feared them. We knew who they were and if you had any brains at all. You hoped your path never met theirs. I was just a kid then…it was no joke. I went to college and moved to California. Pistone did society a favor, the rest is Hollywood.
@@scottsenatra1193Great post. People forget this was a dangerous life, and they also affected hard-working, honest citizens. The union guy trying to make an honest living, the butcher shop that had to pay protection or face retaliation, the real estate agent who unknowingly gets tangled up with them, price fixing, stealing money from people through stock scams…these people were worthless piles of trash. It’s fascinating and glorified but very dark part of our history here in America.
@@scottsenatra1193I have no doubt. The mafia have been reduced to a caricature by Hollywood over the past 30 or so years, but if you ever read about how ingrained they were in American society for most of the 20th century you’d be well aware of how terrifying they were.
$500???? What the fuck!?! If i went undercover for 6 years, almost losing my family in the process and doing a lot of dirty shit that will haunt my mind for a life time. They would have to give my ass at least $600,000, actually to hell with that, they would have to give my ass 1 mill for each year...LOL!!!!
and apparently the FBI arrested Lefty before the meeting where they were gonna kill him, so he is still alive (some people in the comments don't seem to have seen or believed that.)-oops- I mean he died of cancer- but they didn't kill him at the meeting! and hey- thanks for posting! Endoost2 ROCKS! Thanks! Great quality of a fantastic film!
i dont know what part is more disturbing : The chopped up bodies in the basement or the blank stares in Joe (donnie's) face when they insult him by messing up on his name, giving him a medal, and the bullshit ass check for 500 dollars. (maybe it was a lot more money back then) but still. I'm gonna watch part 14 just to listen to the music
The truth is lefty wasn’t killed. Sonny black was because he was the captain that allowed a fed in the crew. Joe Pistone, and so many ex mafia members who knew lefty said that Pacinos best Role was Lefty. They said it because they knew lefty and Pacino played him to a tea.
The few seconds at the beginning where he puts all the jewelry into the drawer are very touching. he was doing it because he knew that he was going to get it.
@@AlexTechie Lefty was never killed. He was caught by the Feds, but refused to say anything. He served his time and died of cancer after his release. Dominick Napolitano (aka Sonny Black) was called for a sit down. Shortly beforehand, he went to the Motion Lounge and gave his jewelry to the bartender along with the keys to his pigeon coops, so someone could feed them. Dominick's girlfriend then contscted Pistone and said Dominick told her if it was anyone, he was glad that Joe Pistone (Donnie Brasco) was the one who took him out.
Yeah but if you know your getting ready to go and most likely meet your end why wouldnt you give it to the girl friend one last time and show up to the boys ready for the next chapter
Agent Pistone wrote a book man, and gives all of these details of coming out of the operation. His exit from the mob is a lot more elaborate than the movie actually shows. Also, Sonny Black gets wacked, something the movie never shows.
Thanks for uploading this great flick. It takes a couple of viewings to take it all in. The FBI was sloppy, not even changing the name of the boat & not paying off the local cops in Florida. I can't imagine how Pistone pulled it off, all the while having to wear a wire the size of a book!
Thanks for the upload, an excellent film , depp and pacino,s acting awesome , excellent story ,moral is fuck the feds it aint worth it ...................
@fereng... Yet another person, who has no idea what they're talking about. The Bonanno family did not "let" Benjamin Ruggiero live. He got arrested before they could kill him. They did; however kill Dominic Napolitano(sonny black)... I just love it, when someone sees a movie about real life events, and believes they were a part of it, and therefore; know everything about the story.
@MrSuRaJ931 Al Pacino character was murdered by his own crew. If you rent the movie at the end he gets' a phone call and he knew they were going to kill him because he basically was careless and brought in a undercover FBI agent in their dealings, which who Johnny Depp character is. Rent the movie, it's good!
Some people leave behind $7, a watch, a car & some jewelry. Others leave behind enormous wealth … point is we all leave this earth. Verily from God we came to God we must return.
the other thing i don't understand about the movie version is that in real life pistone had nothing but praise for the fbi and their support of him. i guess for some reason for cinematic purposes they thought it would be more appealing if he had "done it all for nothing". never got that myself. still a great movie anyway. good to watch again.
this is said man... For 500 bucks and a fucking medal? Good movie, really good. The bad thing is this doesn't show the power of the mafia and stuff like that. Good fellas is the best. They do whatever they want, whenever. In Donnie brasco 1. the mafia boss brings 2 guys to the meeting? 2 fucking guys! 2. a new guy would never be taken in so easily into the mafia 3. the italian accents are exaggerated but still good movie

@Zee96969696 yea it was sad that he done all this to his wife and 3 little children and nothing has changed but some people died and some went to prison. america is still screwed up as ever. wonder how much money he made on the movie and book? millions i guess.

@DG53 you would think maybe in the 30s or 40s if a man like pistone risked his life doin this 500 bucks and a medal wouldnt be such a kick in the ass cause 500 and a medal wouldve been quite a bit back thn... but early 80s, thats just an insult..
@99681655 i was talking about pistones 500 dollar reward he got after all that risk and dedication..... whats that gotta do with your paycheck..... i just came back from france btw best country in world in my opinion.

The real Joseph Pistone didn't care that Sonny got whacked because of him. He said that was the main thing this movie done different from the truth. He was never torn between being loyal to the FBI and to the mafia.

@theETOkid1 No. He was called in by the mafia, meaning he was suppose to be killed. He left his watch and various other personal belongings in the drawer for his wife. But as he was driving to the "Call in" he was picked up by the FBI, where he was arrested.
In the real life story, Lefty is rescued by the FBI, and it is Sonny who gets whacked! (No joke.)
I read Sony was the one who was close to Donnie and Sony got wacked. So kind of like the film as lefty is portrayed as the one who's close to Donnie .
That's true
The mafia put a hit out on Lefty but while in custody of the Fbi and then incarcerated he never told them anything and because of this the hit was called off.
$500 in 1981 would be $1500 in 2021. Not enough for all that he did and risked in that operation. That ceremony sucked. Pistoni? 🤨😤
One of the reasons that made Joe to regret :))). He basically did it for a couple of fazools
He received a nice bonus of 500$ while his head is worth 500K, I always knew how much a government could be grateful towards their honest citizens.

$500...... plus salary, plus special payments, plus overtime plus plus. Not forgetting he has a new ID with all the fringe benefits.
