- SORRY for the heads early on, took a moment to reposition. Solid performance here from an iconic group. All their hits are here but honestly, they rocked the house with their own version of Cinnamon Girl. Also sorry about messing up the beginning of Sandman. User error - enjoy!
Without Gerry Beckley America does not exist
*America is Dewey and Gerry together on stage* 😭😭💔💔
*Please, Gerry Beckley, come back to America*
😢😢😢💔💔💔
Terrific to see and hear Dewey - the ‘poet’ of the band still putting on a show. Well done Dewey!
Happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Good job bro
Thanks and back at you my man. Happy you enjoyed it - Peace
Thank you so much for filming and posting this! I was there in the VIP section and thought the concert was great and so much fun even without Gerry. I thought his replacement did a pretty good job on Daisy Jane. We all clapped loud for him after because it must be so hard to try and duplicate Gerry. He really tried hard to get it right and we have to appreciate that. I met Dewey before the concert, autograph and pictures. I'm not used to meeting famous people so I was a little star struck! He was nice and kind. I love dancing in my seat to these great songs! And yes, Dewey really rocked on Cinnamon Girl! It was awesome. So nice to have the video you posted of the concert at the Ryman to revisit the night. Thank you!!!! Oh and I see me dancing on the right of the floor for A Horse With No Name. SO COOL!
Hey I'm happy to hear you found this and enjoyed. Cinnamon Girl was a treat, and it never hurts to rock it out a bit more. My wife and I like it up top in the last row where we can stand or sit, without bothering anyone and it still feels so darn close. I did see some people shaking it up by the stage, never too old! Take care
Great, I forgot how many singles these guys had. I am impressed. Thank you. Great video.
You got it, happy you enjoyed it. They had a montage at the beginning I wish I had taped. It was all the shows and movies that had their songs, or references to their song, like some SNL skits from way back. It was a very impressive list that confirms they were cultural icons. Peace!
I haven't forgotten how many hits they had.
Thank you for posting this! Appreciate it. In addition to the hits, great to hear "Cinnamon Girl" also
Hello and happy to hear you enjoyed it. The response has been a bit surprising so it seems to find a special place with people I wouldn't have imagined. Thanks for watching and take care
I've always liked the song, and also, I'm a redhead so I get called that sometimes, LOL 😊
Thanks again.
@@tinydancer62 Uh-oh. Sounds like a spicey Mamacita!! Be good! or not!!
@@vanlifeonthego6684 LOL 😄
Thank you so much for this video!! I was supposed to be there but just couldn’t get off work at the Golf Course!!
I am a friend of Dewey’s from way back & wanted SO much to see him for his first tour without Gerry! It’s a huge deal. It’s not like we can just call him to say hey, like I used to!! I respect his wife very much & wouldn’t want to cause any problems. Another good friend runs the sound board at the Ryman for 30 years & was a good friend of my Ex’s & I didn’t want to get caught up in that either!! 😩👍
Hey there - happy you enjoyed it and sorry you missed it. What course do you work at? I've worked some myself at a couple and still enjoy playing so might want to come a visit you. We actually saw the guy working the soundboard, we were pretty close. Don't tell anyone, but the top row with padded folding chairs is the bomb. So much better than the hard pews. Thanks for the reply -take care!
Hi!! Thank you for your response!! Wow! Your seats were that far back? 😩 That’s exactly what I was afraid would happen if I bought tickets! I looked & thought about it for weeks but changed my mind at the last minute because I was SO used to getting a chance to actually see Dewey & chat for a little while, everytime my Sister & I have seen them! My sister was very close to Willie (the original drummer).. Anyway, I was actually looking for the seats right in front of course & could only find the tickets for the Pew seats. 😔. My Golf Course is Hermitage Golf Course/Country Club in Hermitage. It’s incredibly beautiful & huge. There are 2 courses The Generals is on the right & (smaller, less dramatic & The Presidents is on the Left & where I work on The Turn! I love it so much & it sure does beat working in an office with a bunch of woman for 20 years!! lol
So - Sharon at the shack?? What a freaking small world. We know each other, but I'll leave it a surprise until I get back there. Honestly, I've done the main level before and had to stand too much when others in front of us did. The back row on top at the Ryman still feels like you're on top of the stage, and those padded seats are golden. You take care Sharon and don't let those sheep beg you for snacks too much
Thank-you for the post! I wasn't really a big fan, as this was Dad's music, but after he passed, I started to listen to them and realized that they have some truly great songs!💜🎸🎵 🎶 😎👍
Bless you and you're welcome. That does my heart good to know it makes you think of good memories of him. I'm the same as far as not a huge fan but certainly enjoy several songs quite a bit. Bands like this from the 70s and even 80s worth anything are dwindling and we're determined to see as many as we can, as long as they have some semblance of the original version. The reason I post these in part is for those who can no longer make it out, or chose not to. I've got some others posted already you might like and our next show is ELO - big fan - and then Bonnie Riatt. Thanks for the comment and take care of yourself
@@vanlifeonthego6684 THANK-YOU again! Every time I hear "Ventura Highway" I think of the families trip to California, and this was one of the 8-tracks we played, and now when I hear this, it brings fond memories of that happy time❤😎👍
America were a HUGE act in the 70's. Many of they're songs we're up there on the charts. VERY much loved.
@@bradcrawford1998 Dig it - as first timers, we thought they sounded great even with only 1 original member. Peace!
@@vanlifeonthego6684 Many 70's bands have only 1 or 2 original members remaining. Sadly this is the norm. I saw BTO last year and Randy Bachman was the ONLY original member left BUT they were AMAZING. His son is in the band. The other singers were AWESOME. Once Randy leaves they CAN'T call themselves BTO. They are then officially a tribute band. Foreigner pulls that CRAP, still playing and calling themselves Foreigner and charging CRAZY ticket prices. That is SO WRONG. Mick Jones is behind that BS 😤😤😤
Thank you for taking the time/effort to film and post this. I've loved America since I was a kid. Still have their "History: Greatest Hits" on audio cassette. 😅
Hey there, you got it. Happy to hear you've enjoyed it and honestly I'm a bit surprised at the response. It's easy to see that America touches the heart and soul of so many. I've got ELO and Bonnie Raitt coming soon. Thanks for the comment and wish you the best.
@@vanlifeonthego6684 Ohhhh, I have a ticket to see Bonnie Raitt in Houston in November! Can't wait.
@vanlifeonthego6684 ELO should be great. They were in San Francisco yesterday, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go. I saw them right before Covid and they were fantastic. Enjoy!
@@tinydancer62 Saw them about 5 years ago last time thru our area. It was some freaking good stuff. Jeff Lynne is one of the last true Rock Gods and he doesn't play around. He still sounds great, and the rest of the band are all serious pros. The Langley sisters on the strings are stars in their own right.
No Gerry I don’t think I could go anymore…they played on Maui many times in the 37 years I’ve been here so I’m grateful for that!
I understand, it was a cheap date night for us with free parking next door. I chose to be open minded and just happy at this point to see them with Dewey. As a first timer for us, we enjoyed it and thought they sounded pretty good. Take care
@@vanlifeonthego6684 oh I’m glad you went! That’s just how it is nowadays… I saw Foreigner awhile back with NO original members!
@@mt9054 They have none? Wow - didn't realize that but I was never a huge fan, sorta kinda liked some songs. Man the years are passing us by or what, got to embrace each day for sure
Gerry’s no longer in the band?
@@pkeelan56 I think officially he’s in the band but not the touring band…
Were living in the last of the last days.
Is sad but truly is the end of America 😢
@@Piero9551 you're both idiots. America the band may be shuffling off, but America the country is doing well. Stop believing the bullshit on Fox News.
Now, it’s ’Here and Now’ -and they were getting older when they released that album. We are all older and getting older still, not just them.
Maybe you are, pal, I'm not,
America-one last time
Alligator lizards in the air!!!
This is so cool!
DIg it, happy you enjoyed it. Alligator lizards in the air never get old! Thanks for watching - take care
Great show we really enjoyed it.
Слушаю группу "America" с 1980 года. В восторге.! но сейчас немного не то. Привет из России !
Hello my friend. Truly amazing to me the reach and joy this video has brought to so many. When a guy tells me it reminded him of his dad that has passed away and trips with him, that's pretty special. I guess they are different now but to us it was the first time, and they sounded good to us. Good luck to you and Peace!
Good concert but it's still not AMERICA without Gerry! Dewey knows it and we all know it! Just my humble opinion! Anyway, ROCK ON AMERICA! 👍👍
I understand and feel the same way about bands like Chicago and many others still touring. Yet for the wife and I who had never enjoyed them, they sounded good to us, and it was a fun night. The place was sold out and people seem to enjoy the video. Frankly I don't blame Dewey for keeping on, esp when he makes sure to honor the band respectfully. Dan's little part on video was pretty cool, wasn't overdone but just right.
correctly stated
dangerously close to a cover band now
@@josephbartosch We went open minded and they sounded great to us. Was a cheap date night for us and when we get a chance to see a show at the Ryman, you just go. Now I did check to see at least someone from the original group was still around. The group is like me, old as dirt, so honestly we were ok with one guy left. It was a sellout and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Hi! I noticed your ELO Bridgestone upload was taken down. Would you happen to still have the footage?
Yeah I'm horribly frustrated over big brother taking this down. Supposedly it was over a complaint from Sony Music and a performance of Telephone Line at Wembley. What I don't understand is there are still numerous concert vids of ELO and TL so I don't get it. No one can get these vids monetized in the first place, so I only post these for the benefit of older folks like us that can't make it out to see shows for whatever reason. Of course, I have the original video but not sure what to do with it now. These people make me sick, selectively choosing when and how they want to enforce their so-called policies. Very frustrating.

@@vanlifeonthego6684 It’s awful that they just take these videos down, it’s just outright copyright abuse if you ask me. If possible, could you privately send me the video? I’d like to be able to go back and watch it with my friends since we all had a great time at the concert.
@@Chapowzer I'm happy to hear how much you enjoyed it and I'll give it some thought. I'm doing some research and exploring options as well. The YT email included a contact at Sony and I've messaged them. Not sure I'll receive a response but hopefully will. Shame that big brother and large corp can do this. I've never made a dime on YT and never will, and certainly not promoting anything. I'm chump change compared to most on YT so not sure why they pick on the smallest guy. Shameful
Did you ever hear back from Sony?
Maybe The Dewey Bunnell Band, or Dewey Bunnell and Friends, but not America.
Hope you realize it wasn't me that named this band, or tour...but understand where you're coming from. I think the same thing now about Chicago and so many other bands touring now. We have free parking near the Ryman and tickets were reasonable so we often go to shows we may not have in the past. Honestly, they sounded pretty good regardless and their version of Cinnamon Girl did rock out. Never been a huge fan, a bit too soft for me but again, a nice cheap date night - ya dig
You have got right there, is Bunnell band but not America...
America was over when Peek left the band, so sad to say😭😭
@@vanlifeonthego6684 Did you by chance see John Kay & Steppenwolf there a few years ago? Actually "John Kay & friends" it was called.
@@lesschoenberger3070 No I'm afraid I didn't but that would been a magic carpet ride. We have been to several in the past year once the wife got free parking 1 block away. Figured we're not getting any younger and need to get out and about. Alan Parsons was pretty cool recently. Take care!
Where is Gerry?
Wow didn't know about Gerry...They should not tour as "America"...
I can't really buy this without Gerry.
Saw them in 2020, just before COVID (last show before) and they were awesome! The "Gerry replacement" is not a great vocalist judging by "I Need You" and SGH.
I understand that point of view for sure, too many bands touring now like Chicago that aren't the same. At least America has 1 original guy left, 2 guys on the horns in Chicago isn't that. To each his own and we enjoyed it, prob since we hadn't seen them before, and it was a cheap date night since we have free parking literally next door. Due to our parking, we're trying to get out of the house and go see anyone that has some potential of a fun night. I was more of a rocker so wasn't a huge fan back in the day, but at this point in our lives, it was pretty fun. Many our age can't, or won't get out so I post in large part for them, as you can see I don't get any money and likely never will. One person thanked me and told me how much it reminded them of their dead Father and brought back great memories. That alone was worth it. Peace!
They were always awesome in concert! All these bands now from this time are replacements with one or two original members! At least the spark is still alive.
What was covid?
Who's singing lead on sister golden hair? Is it either of Gerry's sons, Joe or Matthew since Gerry's not there?
Sad to say I'm not sure. Of course Dewey did all the intro's but I didn't catch it all. The dude was a bit off it seemed on some songs but thought SGH was decent. Overall I'm still happy we went, was a cheap date night with the wife. Venture Hwy and Cinammon Girl alone was worth it.
Andy Barr has stepped in take the lead on Gerry's songs.
Bunnell comes alive 🤷🤷
The Horse is getting tired, but we love him still and always will.
No Gerry? Replacement???
I actually miss Dan Peek the most, beautiful voice. He was the raw wild spirit of the group. The other two are more like corporate hacks.
Well corporate hacks isn't exactly what I would have expected.
Agree with you, America was over in 1977 when Dan left America..
The most beautiful voice and the mythical lead guitar forever of this band, but hacks who Dewey or Gerry???
No that is not true, to each his own.. Without Bunnell and Beckley America it does not America, you are wrong..
I agree with you except that I would not include Dewey in the ‘corporate hack’ appellation (which is a bit strong in any case but somewhat true). Had America continued with Dewey’s songwriting instead of all the sickly-sweet, lullaby-love-introspective pop songs that Gerry always wrote, they would have reached the highest heights in the rock genre. Dewey’s writing has always had something serious to say and think about and is so evocative. Having said that, Gerry did write a few memorable songs, too.
Where's Gerry? I hope he's OK. Something must be wrong if he's not touring 🤔
I'm not sure frankly, had many comments about it and I'm late to the America train being more of a rocker early in life. Apparently, he's still recording so don't know if they had a falling out or what. They still sounded good to us in their current form. Take care
He retired at the beginning of the year from touring
What happened to Gerry Beckley?
He’s in Sydney Australia with his new wife and step children. He wants to spend more time with them. Who can blame him for no longer wishing to tour - he’s done it practically all his life and it must be exhausting.

Did ticket buyers know in advance that Gerry would not be there? Were refunds offered? The drummer needs to listen to some Lee Wilcox recordings!
No way, I didn't know Gerry wouldn't be there at the concert I'm seeing on September 22nd, 2024, when I bought tickets!!
It was posted for ages on their website!
AMERICA is Gerry AND Dewey. Without either of them its NOT America. Its a cover band
To each his own, respect your right to pass but we've never seen them and enjoyed it. The place was sold out, people up dancing and didn't see anyone bummed. They're old as dirt now so some like us were just happy to see them with any original members. We chose to not be so cynical; life is short and good bands from this era with any original members are far and few between
Wait, now I read Gerry released a "solo" record and will be touring in support of it? Thought he left America so he didn't have to tour. This smells fishy to me.
Not sure about all that, I'm somewhat late to the America party since I was more of a rocker in my younger life. For us it was a fun date night as we have free parking next door. So, it's not like we traveled and paid a small fortune. Regarding the former members I try to not be too cynical, I'm sure they sound different to longtime fans, but they sounded plenty good to us and the crowd seemed to enjoy it plenty. It's not like its Chicago with no original vocalists any longer.
I get it. Isn’t Robert Lamm still with Chicago?
@@BrianKushner I've heard conflicting things, think he might be joining them some, but I've seen recent concert video where he wasn't there. I'd still be on the fence even if he was. Some groups still sound great like Styx, Doobies and a few others. The Moody Blues were great every time but that's been a few years now. You wonder who is still around with some groups still touring like Marshall Tucker, Starship and Ozark Mtn Daredevils. I can't imagine
That is not America, it's an America cover band. Retire already Dewey.
Ah don't be so cynical, life is short. They're old as dirt so it's a small miracle they have one original member, and they sounded fine. The house was full, people were up dancing and enjoying them all night. It's not like they're Foreigner, or some other bands touring, with no members. To each his own, but for us it was a fun night.
No Gerry no America but good cover band
Happy to visited to give your opinion, however the place was packed and everyone seemed to enjoy it just fine. Dewey just doesn't count to you at all? For a band as old as dirt we were just happy to hear they had SOMEONE left, and they have 1/3 left which is much better than some bands still touring under original names. At our age choose to live life, get out and not be too cynical in our old age. It was a cheap date night and a good time
