i agree. he's not flashy. he's not trying to be eddie van halen or jeff beck. there's a simplicity and melodic quality to his playing that is unique. i'll take over all of those glam metal players in the 1980s. in fact, he's way better than a lot of these clowns playing today including john mayer who is the biggest fake of them all. he can't play for shit.
Yeah, I was surprised to see him take the solo! I think I’ve only seen him on screen once before & that was with America and he sang and played rhythm guitar. I had the Reel-To-Reel album (tape) that had ‘Think Of Laura’ on it. Columbia Record & Tape club still had reel tapes in the early 80’s - sounded great under the headphones but not a lot of the printed info you’d get with the record. I’ll have to check out Rick’s video - trying to catch up on them but I have no strategy it’s hit and miss! 🫤
The Tulsa Oiler’s hockey team used to have the same colors back then, as did my Junior High School named after William G. “Skelly” an oilman. My football pep club uniform with leather red/white saddle oxford shoes, too. Ahhh the sweet memories of youth … 😍 🥰
Christopher still is the same dude that he was back then. Just being himself. No frills no thrills, just absolutely undeniable amazing talent brought to you by him and him only.
This song was singularly responsible for my aspirations to one day become a professional wood block player…and it’s hardly audible in this awesome live mix. I remember first hearing about Christopher Cross on a "Where Are They Know" kind of thing back in the last 90's. Had to go out and get a couple albums. Loved it. Still do.
This must’ve been right after Cross won Album of the Year, I think for his debut album. Supposedly it was one of the first albums recorded digitally; I didn’t even know the capability existed back then. But I’m guessing it’s really good for rereleases because the original master would’ve been fairly pristine, and each of the instruments would’ve been isolated on their own track with little bleed. From memory there has been some ridiculous controversy about him winning so many awards but he deserved every one of them as he not only has a terrific voice but he’s also a very good guitarist especially if you consider he’s also lead singer. (I think Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall” album recorded the previous year and in my opinion it was easily Michael’s best album, even though “Thriller” probably sold more copies.)
Loved this song growing up it’s very sad though. My 1st time seeing Christopher perform live & in person! What a romantic 💘 tune, he sure makes that guitar sing!!!

Ninguém irá jamais me tocar novamente
Como você o fez naquela primeira vez
E eu
Nunca serei o mesmo sem você aqui
Viverei sozinho
E me esconderei por detrás de minhas lágrimas
E eu
Nunca serei o mesmo sem o seu amor
Viverei sozinho
E farei o que puder para passar por cima
Os anos passam
Tem sempre alguém que
Tenta me ajudar a esquecer você
Mas novamente, isso não me ajuda

Never Be The Same
It was good for me
It was good for you
Now nothing either of us can say or do
Can change the way you feel tonight
Sometimes love just slips out of sight
Just one thing before you go
Just one thing that you've got to know
No one will ever touch me that way
The way that you did that very first day
And I'll
Never be the same without you here
I'll live alone
Hide myself behind my tears
And I'll
Never be the same without your love
I'll live alone
Try so hard to rise above
The years go by
There's always someone new
To try and help me forget about you
Time and again it does me no good
Love never feels the way that it should
I loved you then I guess I'll love you forever
And even though I know we could never stay together
I think about how it could have been
If we could just start all over again
And I'll
Never be the same without you here
I'll live alone
Hide myself behind my tears
And I'll
Never be the same without your love
I'll live alone
Try so hard to rise above
It was good for me
It was good for you
Now nothing either of us can say or do
Can change the way you feel today
