This episode features more street photography. I hit the ground running with a quick portrait that I really liked; and then i encountered a really interesting but puzzling guy who made for some good photography.
Awesome Ribsy, that shot and conversation with the ladies from the UK was mint! 😍👌
Appreciate you! Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing your BTS in your street portrait photography. What you are doing would give me anxiety. Hell watching your video gave me anxiety. I would love to take street portraits but I end up taking street architecture shots instead. This help me see how you approach strangers especially NYC strangers. PS: thanks for showing NYers being kind. NYC gets a bad rep around the world.
I get a little anxious sometimes too, just take one good interaction to get the mood right 😃
The bit with the four women was priceless.
yea it really was!
Wow! So many good photos and great interactions. The girls from London made me smile big time😄
Yea that was such a nice interaction
I love watching you work Ribsy, it's inspiring me to get out there and take portraits of people in my city! 👊
Glad you were inspired
Love what you do, started following you after I saw the walkie talkie with Paulie B. I shot film with a vivitar 2000 back in 1988 while I was in the Navy, used it in Adak AK and Misawa Japan. Switched to digital in 2012 with canon t3i, now in 2023 gonna try the vivitar with pentax 50mm f2 in the streets of Nashville TN Thanks for the inspiration
def go back to film! haha
I really liked it again. Thank you for taking us with you. I'm already looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks. I’m looking forward to making more 😃
👏🏼@@ribsy

So glad to have these engagement's. Ribsy, this is just a really nice thing to watch. The interactions and photos are beautiful.
Thank you. Comments like this make it all worth it
What a great interaction with the 4 young women at the end. Great photos!
Indeed! Was a great time
Really enjoyed watching this, keep it up.
Thanks! I need to restart the series
Absolutely one of your best! What you called underexposed was simply amazing!
Btw I just bought another batch of EZ400. Introducing my step daughter to film and this will be a great way to do it.
Yea they came out ok! Haha
And thanks for the support!
beautiful photos! nice work!
Thank you
Best episode yet brother👊loving the series!

The city is great despite its many flaws 😀
RIBSY! just found your channel dude! im binging every video
Welcome and thanks!
This was one of your best videos and photos ever imo. Good work brother.
Appreciate you my man! Staying busy 💪🏽
Kick ass video brother. Love the vibes.
thanks for watching!
Yes! That was excellent. Thanks for creating the vid. Good luck, eh!
Thanks for watching!
Its so great to sea somebody with 124g on streets. I own one but focusing on this camera is so hard. Any advice from you? What aperture you use mostly? I see that f8 is sharp af.
High five from Poland 📷
this was such a fun video. those women were so fun to watch!
Yea it was such a positive interaction. We chatted for a while
Great confidence in asking for street portraits it’s something I really struggle with.
Confidence is def key
love this series!
im glad you enjoy it!
Man, I just get so inspired when I see you Ribsy. I shoot Leica, but when you put on a youtube video with medium format cameras, I get the urge to shoot with my Hasseblad. Hey keep rocking !!
I’m glad you are inspired!
Great stuff love it 📷👍
thank you!
I really liked the interaction with the guy in the white jacket. I’m just getting started with the Hasselblad and trying to figure out how to engage with people without turning them off. Strangely enough I think the changes in my own appearance from chemo is a bit of an icebreaker. 😹😹😹
Ha well there is a a silver lining!
Wow, these are such great images. I have a Yashica 124G and this is inspiring me to bust it out and shoot some more with it. Are you developing your own film? The colors look great.
i develop at a lab bit i scan myself
Great seeing you again
Cheers!
Super foto's !!! Thanks
Thank you 😊
Each one of the pictures were great not to dark at all I think they are perfect
Great!
nice video, yashica mat 124g is one of my favorite medium format vintage camera, i use on wedding film photography service
its such a great camera!
yesssssssss@@ribsy
I guess any photo made on the streets are considered street photography... I hate these definitions and the gate-keeping that comes with it. Ribsy on the other hand is a breath of fresh air. Keep on keeping on bruh!
Yea the hard definitions are useless
Since you're one of the few photographers I've seen using film, I was curious to your honest opinion: Do you think film produces a better or "truer" image quality than digital--or is it simply a matter of preference & the style you're going for?
That’s all purely subjective. I shoot film because the cameras are more interesting to operate. The look of film is great but can approximated with digital editing nowadays
@@ribsy I feel the same way. Film cameras are more fun to use to me. The process of taking photos is much more interesting, plus I then get to look forward to the results. Its like spotify is easier than records but a lot od people seem to prefer records for the experience.
@ribsy Gotcha. Thanks for your insight & those photos came out great!
Yashica Mat LIFE! Did that group of ladies offer to send you the results from their camera? Curious how those turned out. Love the shot of the genuine smiles.
Yea I got their pics yesterday actually. They are fun photos
@@ribsy Oh sweet! =D
Love this! I personally don’t love the idea that we glorify the “sneaky” part of street photography: it may happen and be part of the process but making it a badge of honor to me is kind of ethically dubious. Like you I think it takes some serious boldness to go to someone ask for permission while knowing that a number of those convos will end up in rejections. I have a lot of respect for the process. And consent can come in many forms to: a chat, a nod, a smile… Thanks for end pm stroll!
Yea I’m torn on the sneaky part. So much great photography happened that way
I hope you bring your food/photo series back. Maybe this winter.
We’ll see!
I'm hungry @@ribsy
What makes you pull out the TLR versus the Hassy? As a long time shooter 35mm film > digital > back to film, I'm getting the itch to have a bigger negative, try medium format. Being able to walk around with it is key; I have my main kit down to 1 body and 1 lens for the most part. Keep up the good work. Really enjoy your darkroom videos.
The hasselblad is temperamental and seemingly random. When it malfunctions, I have no idea why. The TLR works every time and is smaller/lighter
Ribsi the dude Briliant as always !!
Apprecoate you watching!
thanks for this kind of videos!
Thank you for your support!
That pentax is one of the most advanced point and shoot I've ever knew and has really awesome feautures, you must try it on... by the way, I'm gonna give a second chance to my yashica thanks to your inspo.
Interesting! It was very weird looking haha
Really awesome video! Love your portrait street photography with interaction but what ever works for the photographer is OK.
For sure! Thanks
If you recorded this last week I missed you by a few hours. I was up and down that stretch of 28th all week.
Ahhh word!
You are an engaging guy and look legit with your previous pics on your phone. Why NEW YORKERS trust you!
Keep up the good work!
But don’t rave on bike people - everybody has a story.
Thank you! I try 😀
Quality over quantity 😊
Yes!
Come back to London Eric we miss you too man!
Miss you guys!
Nothing wrong with your street portraiture. It can provide a better insight into someone through the image. It's also harder to ask someone for permission and get turned down. Good street candids depend a lot more on HCB's 'decisive moment' to truly accomplish a great image.
Candid street portraiture is difficult in its own way. When it’s good it’s great
Why🤔 it’s being polite and respectful. Maybe back in the day when there was no social media, You Tube etc , I get it but times have changed and people are wearily about their pictures being taking with or without permission.
I dunno. It’s very short sighted
I think street photography is an important piece of work. I cant do it. Its not something I am comfortable doing. Its like a snapshot in time. See some interesting people. keep it up.
Def is important 🙏🏽
i see u measure incident light not reflective. I normaly measure reflective, just point to the subject, but i guess i will try the other way around.Good video
Since I’m doing portraiture I want the exact exposure for their face
Im a new dad as well. 100% feel the same.
Yup! 😅
💯
🙌🏽
Zone focus "F8 and be there," nothing hard about that. Asking people for a portrait is definitely harder than candid street photography.
Sometimes it’s that simple! Haha
i think the only reason its looked down upon now is because of all the tik tokers doing the exact same thing and taking these very boring portraits of mainly conventionally attractive women not that the photos dont look nice but thats all it is nice no realness to them so i would say what you are doing is a lot more raw and real but sad to see that this style of photography has gotten a bad name
Yea def giving the genre a bad rap
P r o m o S M 😄
