A 19 and 4 year old were killed due to hospital negligence a few weeks from each other. Nurses from a hospital were fired because of a TikTok treat about “labor and delivery icks” and many babies died in their care. This medical system is ridiculous

My hospital almost let me die in the ER when my fallopian tube exploded. I had an ectopic, told them it was likely ectopic and my OB said to go to ER if anything hurt or was bleeding, and OH BOY IT WAS, and they let me sit there for hours, screaming while everyone looked at me like I was crazy and exaggerating due to it being INSIDE my body.
Because there were about 45 people in the waiting room, and it was night time, I suffered for hours until I had my husband go scream at someone for me. I felt the rupture. I felt the blood pouring. I felt it clotting.
There are no words to describe the amazing relief when I woke from surgery.
Surgeon said the rupture was millimeters away from an artery and the entire surgical staff said there was so much blood in my abdomen, they were genuinely surprised I was walking or even conscious when I came in.

This is so unacceptable. The traveling nurses need to be reprimanded for their role of neglecting this child. Void their license. No monitoring the child but they had time to talk about activities when their shift was done? Hawaii Nurses showed up and they were locked out. Why? This was a vacation for the traveling nurses who are not taking the patients care seriously and neither are the Kapiolani bosses. The State now needs to step in and thoroughly investigate to ensure this doesn't happen again. Nurses need to honor the Nightingale Pledge.

You are telling me the patient was there for multiple days and a doctor did not round to see how that patient is doing? The family didn’t express their concern to a doctor? Didn’t call management to express concern? In addition, they too have access to the chart. They can check vitals and documentation. There is a lot the doctors could have done.

Nope. Maybe there is, but thank goodness we don't have to live by those principles in this modern world. The hospital is the entity who accepted the admit. They also hired travelers to do the nursing duties. So there were nurses there. Apparently, not good ones, hence they are travelers. But ya, no. Nursing is a profession. just like any other profession. And it won't pass muster to expect any employee to meet expectations that nobody else would meet.
I'll clarify also diaper changing is not medical care. But.... monitoring hydration status is. And that would include monitoring and weighing diapers. And managing sats and resp status is also nursing duty. These nurses should know that conveying compassion and attention and promptness is as important as the most critical medical treatment. They failed. That likely won't rise to the level of neglect but it does make em a..holes who should go work with sleeping people, or food orders and not ill children and their families.

This problem is going to get worse and worse. They are replacing physicians for nurse midlevels. They have no idea what they don't know. This is because they don't want to pay for a doctor and fill the facilities with lesser trained providers, then call them doctors. And won't pay nurses a fair wage. It is going to take the consumer ( patients), aligning with doctors to say no more. At very least make nurses who want to be mid levels, go to residency. We physicians have 12-15,000 hours of training before we sit for our boards. Often, the midlevel is required 800-1000 hours. Wrap your mind around this stat!

They are definitely NOT striking because of greed. They are striking because of their terrible working conditions they've had to endure for so many years. If you want to talk about greed, you have to take a look at the other side. It's the administrative staff and management of Kapi'olani who are full of greed. I understand that the hospital is ultimately a business, but they have the money and resources to pay these temporary nurses a very generous compensation package. Money and resources that could be used to easily honor what our local nurses are asking for - to hire more local nurses to beef up their staff to get safer staffing ratios. But instead, Kapi'olani wants to use bully tactics against the very backbone of who keeps their hospital afloat by locking them out indefinitely. They say that they care about their patients and they even say that they value their local nurses but the writing is on the wall. SHAME ON KAPI'OLANI! And quite frankly, shame on you for thinking our nurses are the greedy ones... Hope you have a blessed day

My wife is a PICU RN here at Kapi'olani. I can't speak for every nurse in the hospital or even in her unit, but I can speak on behalf of my wife. A diaper change is something so miniscule that my wife would do out of the kindness of her heart. Her motherly instinct kicks in because she genuinely cares for these patients as if they're our kids. I'd think the vast majority of our local nurses do, or they wouldn't be here. Their working conditions have been unfair for a while now but they power through it because they have to for the patients. the COVID pandemic was the breaking point for a lot of these nurses, and these are some of the ripple effects that are starting to show itself. I think the message that this dad was trying to portray with this comment was that these temporary nurses don't even have it in them to go do a simple diaper change if they see she's soiled her diaper, let alone have the urgency to provide the proper care for his daughter in a situation when she's fighting for her life. These temporary nurses' minds are not with the patients, it's on what they are going to do in their free time during this "paid vacation", i.e. dancing every night. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to you but just wanted to share my thoughts

I think if anything, he's just trying to point out that the care was almost non-existent.
