Mr Rose will probably not remember a day that I will never forget. It must have been 1967/68. My Dad took me to Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, PA. The Pirates were playing the Reds. During pre-game warmups a ball rolled up to wall by the 1st base side. It was right in front of me! I jumped over, grabbed the ball & returned to my seat. Then two ushers approached and demanded that I give them the ball or else get expelled from the park. Mr Rose saw the disturbance and came over to inquire. After one of the ushers explained the offense, Mr Rose told them to go away and leave me slone. He even signed the ball that I got to keep. Forever grateful. Thank you, Charlie Hustle!
If Jose altuve gets into the Hall of Fame or any of those Houston Astros players that were involved in the cheating scandal are allowed into the Hall of Fame then Pete Rose should absolutely be in the Hall of fame. This is not up for discussion.
The one true thing said here was that Rose was screwed out of the HOF when they changed the rule on eligibility. Otherwise, Rose has zero credibility. Why would someone stick up for him.
Yeah Johnny Bench, Mike Schimdt and Joe Morgan were the ones that set this agreement up for Pete Rose to get back into baseball. In fact, Johnny Bench talk about it on Dan Patrick's show back in 2018. ua-cam.com/video/v_4euOWih_U/v-deo.html
No way would Rose throw a game. The guy was obsessed with winning to the point of mental illness. Some of his worst moments (I.e destroying Fosse in the all-star game) spoke to his unwillingness to lose even an exhibition game).
In 1975 I was 14 and lucky enough to be at the World Series in Boston. Watching Carlton Fisk, Carl Yazstrzemski, Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, and Joe Morgan. What a magical series that was.
