Early in his career, he was rather pedestrian with showing genuine emotion. But ever since 2012, he’s stepped up big time and not letting any insecurities get into his head and now he’s one of the best out there
I don't think he needs to. He's a "presenting" type of commentating rather than the "reactionary" type Like his commentary in ESPN's NFL games are quite off, because sometimes he's being emotional for no reason He just needs to adjust his commentary accordingly to the moments and not being too real to himself, IMO
@@redpillfreedom6692 SI has an old article on it: “A few weeks before the start of the 2011 baseball season, Buck underwent his eighth hair replacement procedure. But something went wrong during the six-hour-plus procedure. When he woke up from the anesthetic, Buck could not speak. He believes his vocal cord was paralyzed because of a cuff the surgery center used to protect him during the procedure. A doctor not part of the operation theorized to Buck that the cuff probably got jostled during the procedure and sat on the nerve responsible for firing his left vocal cord.”
@@robustbottlecapI can definitely see that. I do think he’s been “over-commentating” a little bit as of recently. His best calls IMO are the huge games he calls where he lets the moment speak for itself with some awesome well timed commentary. That Marshawn Lynch touchdown in the 2014 NFCCG is probably the best example of that.
That’s because Joe Buck knows more than team announcers (but he just didn’t know GB fans frequently moon away teams buses at Lambeau) But he’s still the BEST - booster seat and all
Glad to see Buck's call of the Cubs winning the World Series got the #2 spot, for all the grief he got over the years he couldn't have captured that moment any more perfectly.
6:19 "GOT IT!!" There's something I thought I'd never see Joe Buck announce in sports history. Normally I know Joe for doing baseball and football, but not golf. But man, I love how he said "GOT IT!!" when Gary Woodland sank that putt!
Joe Buck gets far too much criticism imo, me included from previous years. From 2010 onwards I think he's one of the very best to do it. The fact I could recite at least 30 of these shows you just how good he is.
I really think his early career was held back by having Pat Summerall as the obvious go-to model within Fox, and with learning football on the job that meant an awful lot. Very few announcers can make that level of minimalism work, and Buck wasn't one of them. He's stopped being imitation Pat for 15-ish years now and he's all the better for it, and somehow I think an amazing number of people still think he never changed even as the change happened in front of the biggest audiences in television.
@@FungiRy91massively disagree mate. He’s worked on his craft and I think ever since his move to ESPN in particular he’s been reborn. An unbelievable announcer.
I've been one of the guys who criticized Buck early on, and I still think his sparse kind of style lends itself better to baseball than football. But there's no denying that he's stepped up his game with calls like the Minneapolis Miracle.
It took a long time for Joe Buck to blossom. But when he did, he gave us some amazing calls like the end of the 108 year drought and Minneapolis Miracle. It only got better when he moved to ESPN, where i think he's at his best currently. Also the man can beat someone in a roast battle. 😂
That cubs team in 2016 are the best ever to come back in games. They did it all season! Winning the World Series is one of the greatest moments in sports history.
Not even close Red Sox’s were down 3-0 to the Yankees ended up winning the Alcs in 7 games to go and beat the Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. Cleveland Cavaliers were down 3-1 in the NBA finals to the 73-9 Warriors and came back and won in 7 games in 2016 The LA Kings were down 3-0 in the playoffs in the NHL and won their series it occured in the 2010s What the cubs did was significant by winning the series down 3-1 but in terms of magnitude it’s not the best
The reason why I don’t include the 2016 Golden state Warriors despite being down 3-1 to Oklahoma City is because they lost to Cleveland in the NbA finals. Every team that I listed won their leagues championship that season.
Now you just have to add, "Nearside, I don't see any flags, Gipson inside the 30, its the Jets, AND HES GONNA GO!!! JETS WIN IT! TOUCHDOWN! ROOKIE XAVIER GIPSON GAME OVER!"
It seemed like overcoming that vocal chord ailment he had in 2011 gave him a new perspective with having his voice fully back. 2012-onwards Joe Buck is definitely one of the top voices out there, with so many big-moment calls. Big Papi grand slam, Ishikawa wins the pennant, the Cubs 2016 run in general, the Minneapolis Miracle, 28-3, the list goes on and on.
How could, "we will see you tomorrow night." Not get the top spot? By far his best call and a great omage to his late father and he's a cardinals fan as he was their play by play guy for a number of years... epic.

Loved his response to Peyton Manning, who asked him, "During blowout games, do you ever wish you could have someone in the booth to interview?" Joe Buck: "I had that thought when your Broncos were playing the Seahawks in the Super Bowl."😂
I was happy to see Ortiz's grand slam in the 2013 ALCS make the top 5 - Buck's call and tone of voice really set the scene to match how hard Fenway Park was rocking - but I would have put the Cubs winning the World Series as Number 1.
Man basketball and football may be more entertaining moment to moment, but there is nothing as epic as a game-defining, playoff baseball moment. Travis Ishikawa. Rajai Davis. Freese. Montero. Unsung heroes man.

No way the Diamondbacks WS winner call is lower than the Yankees winning in 1996, let alone most others. When you defeat a 3-time defending World Series winner with a walk-off, plus coming out of 9/11, automatic top-5!
