    It’s so disappointing that I had read a excerpt of “I know why the caged bird sings” in middle school but was never told about the amazing woman behind it.

    I had the privledge of attending a talk led by Maya Angelou, and I have to say that she was as well spoken live as she was on the page- a powerful poet, wordsmith, and inspiration.

    I was in my 9th grade about 6 years ago when we did a play about the life and struggles of Maya Angelou based on her "I know Why the Caged Bird Sings".

    Growing up in NC she was a prof at one of Universities here she was spoken of a good bit in the state, and I loved her poems and her writing and she is an idol of mine.

    Freeman being stomped to death is still too merciful.
    But God you guys did amazing with this episode. Read some of Maya Angelou's in an African-American Literature class which was an amazing experience. Helped that my professor was an immigrant from Senegal 🇸🇳 and provided some unique angles to her story.

    Never listen about her down here.
    We learn something about Luther King in school, and something about Malcolm X, but I never knew anything about Maya Angelou.
    I'm glad to follow this channel and hear those amazing histories!

    Hats off to the teacher who empowered Maya the empowering to open up her communication options. She likely would've still been the brilliant writer she became but verbal communication makes getting ones ideas into the world slightly easier

    One thing I must say is that I really hate the term micro-aggression. Especially when it's used next to a depiction of something certainly not 'micro'.
    Knowingly slandering and humiliating someone knowing they'd risk harm by resisting isn't a small thing.

    i was lucky enough to have an opportunity to hear Maya Angelou speak shortly before she died. unfortubately i was pretty young, so i don't really remember any of what she said

    This summary was an incredible to a topic I was never able to ask properly about to anyone, for they wouldn't know about what it is or be offended by me asking it.
    Maya may represent even what was and is like to be a black woman to the whole continent. About the ones we could pay respect for here, those really are pretty much impossible for me to look up.

    Please do something for Indian History like Mauryas Gupta Empire or Ancient Indian History
    The Conquest of India was a pretty bad series which had very little Indian history. Show MORE INDIAN HISTORY and less Colonialism.

    RE LYNCHINGS: as mentioned 4x here
    She lived rich to middle class.
    There where 2 lynchings while she was living in the state of Arkansas & one after she left. (b.1928, moved to stamps 1931, last lynching was when she was 8, 4-29-36, she had already left stamps when she was 7). The 2 lynchings occurred 270 & 330 miles away from her, same distance from Manhattan to Va beach (~270 miles). This is at a time when 1 in 4 families had cars and no highways (till 1955) to drive them on. No internet or televisions (not popular till '39), so she heard by news paper, radio or someone called her on a lan line. This is a gross exaggeration to say she's hiding ppl daily in her grandmom's basement from all the "lynchings".
