  • This is part 2 of the video about changing spark plugs on the V6 engine for the Toyota Rav4.
    This 2009 Toyota Rav4 Limited has the v6 engine which has a more complicated process for changing spark plugs because it requires removal of the intake manifold.
    I walk through the steps to change spark plugs on a 2009 Toyota Rav4 3.5L V6 engine (2GR-FE).
    This process is different from the 4 cylinder.
    The OEM replacement spark plug for this engine is:
    Denso FK20HR11
    gap: 0.-43 In. (1.1mm)
    Torque: 18 N*m (183 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) - see note below to reduce torque if using optional anti-seize.
    Intake manifold gaskets (6) - Toyota part no. 17176-0P021
    Intake manifold torque:
    21Nm or 15Lbft
    I did not see a torque order, but these should be tightened a little more over several passes.
    Tools used:
    10mm socket and wrench
    5mm allen socket
    12mm socket and 12mm open end wrench - for intake bolts on back
    5/8" spark plug deep socket (with internal rubber boot).
    I used a power ratchet:
    ACDelco ARW1209-K9 G12 Series 12V Li-ion Cordless ¼” & 3/8” Ratchet Wrench
    Permatex Dielectric Silicone Grease
    Anti-seize lubricant (optional) - If using anti-seize compound, use sparingly and reduce torque by 30%
    -not recommended by some spark plug manufacturers.
    This process should apply to the following model years:
    2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012

      @@uploadtime1780 I think about an hour to an hour and a half as I was being really careful and unfamiliar. If I had to do it again it would be much quicker.

    Like everyone else mentioned, your video details give folks that are handy the confidence to tackle something like this because you've provided the details of the legwork. Not only did I save a few hundred bucks, it feels good to fix something myself. Many thanks, sir.

    Nice explanations, and also I liked the part that you use the torque, when replacing spark-plugs.

    The only thing he forgot to mention is... if you have big hands or fat fingers this job will require at least 30 F bombs. Thumbs up my man thanks for sharing!!

      I did this yesterday and I'm a big dude. 30 F bombs is definitely on the low side ;-p

    Secret to work on toyotas are those harbor freight stubby pivot head ratchets in the 1/4 -3/8-1/2 sizes and a couple extensions for ea. Size.

    Great video, thank you. How do we know when it's time to replace these spark plugs?

    • @DIYGuyUSA
      @DIYGuyUSA  Рік тому

      They should be replaced according to the maintenance schedule. I believe it is 120k on this car, but I usually replace by 100k

      You can probably just leave it connected to the intake manifold if you want. I don’t remember if there were any bolts connected to the engine

    Thanks for the video. I'm about to do the plugs on my 2010 Rav4 Limited V6 with 180k miles on it. It's still going strong and worth keeping up on! @DIYGuy, about how long do you think the whole job should take?

    • @DIYGuyUSA
      @DIYGuyUSA  3 роки тому +1

      If you are familiar with changing spark plugs, it would still set aside a few hours. If you break the plastic connectors, it will take longer to repair.

    • @AngelofDeath2All

    Excuse me, I have a question, is the torque that you say each spark plug carries information from the manual?

    • @DIYGuyUSA
      @DIYGuyUSA  2 роки тому

      It is not in the owner's manual, but I found the torque specs online for the 2GR-FE engine.

  • @xXxsniper420xXx

    I noticed there are two intake manifold gaskets you can replace on these. Did you do the other ones? It looks like 1 piece instead of the 3 orange ones.

    • @xXxsniper420xXx

      I believe it’s called the plenum gasket

    • @DIYGuyUSA
      @DIYGuyUSA  3 роки тому

      Plenum is the intake manifold. Maybe there are some that use a single connect piece

  • @koreymayo8884

    Don’t need to pull the intake, take the bracket off the left side of the intake, drop the spark plug socket in the tube off of the extension and get it out with a magnet. Your Able to do all 3 like this.
