- Today I begin the long steady adventure of building the partner to my Engine 14, AMT American LaFrance Fire Engine. This multi part series will follow my build of Clark County Truck 18, one of the Trucks in Service when I joined the Clark County Fire Department in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada.
This should be a lot of fun, so hang on tight!

When I was a kid in the 80s, my pops was a Speedway, Indiana firefighter. I remember plenty of times I'd be walking home from school, and I hear, "Knock that shit off." I'd look over and he'd be standing on the back of the engine on the way back from a run. Great memories.
Good on you, Paul. Looking forward to following along.
Very nice 👍 love it and will stay too the end of the end Lee
So awesome kit build paul ,nice ,thumbs up
That is going to look great. First model I remember my dad building for me.. working on a Ford C with the LaFrance pumper body on it
gonna look so cool when done
Thanks for sharing Paul great stuff!!
Nice Paul. This old fire eater appreciates a fire truck build. Thank you!
That brings back memories I grew up not that far from the factory In Elmira,New york
That would have been a thing to see....
What an interesting coincidence - I've just started a Ladder Chief project as well, and it's an AMT/ Matchbox issue too. One of the inspirations for starting this model project was seeing David Parsley's models - and an in-person visit a few weeks ago!
This kit I am building had one price tag of $12.97 with an $8.93 sale price one over top. (And that is in Canadian dollars). Kit was also received as a gift, from one of our retired firefighters who visits often.
It should look great when done
Can’t wait to follow your progress Paul. I thoroughly enjoyed and used your first video of the pumper.
I’ve been looking for a model kit to build but I haven’t found anything that floats my boat.
Good video 👍🏻🔥🤘🏻
Paul, I found that the Round 2 version of the Ladder and the Engine trucks were great, they really did winders with the mould and the box art is so much nicer
Been looking forward to this for a while now. I was really surprised at the red styrene, I have never seen that kit in anything but white, interesting. Going to be a great build. Please remember the domes on the lights are glass, so please don't drop them, lol.
That looks like it's going to be a nice project. I concur about AMT models... their fit tend not to be the best and parts can be warped, but you know, at times, it's the only kit in town of a certain car so what are you going to do?
In Europe (The EU at least), fire engines are always red (with white accents). This was done as a standard. It's the ambulances who are made yellow. (And in the Netherlands at least: recovery vehicles tend to be yellow too).
Paul is this a older retro kit .
Because AMT is now owned and under Auto world ,Round 2 and their Quality is very very good. The new AMT kits are very well done they now own a few brands of model companies.. MPC , and Polar Lights and Lindberg. And AMT.
Paul, in regards to the frame assembly instructions, I noticed on my kit that they were from the pumper, I had to find online a pic someone had done with the right pieces for the Ladder Chief, think I still have it on my phone. Could send to you if needed.
Century series cab was the wide one.. believe the first year was 1975
Had one in the 70s, way beyond my skill level.

I believe someone makes a century cab retrofit for these models. I thought I saw it somewhere

Hi Paul, does this fire engine have V12 engine? I have been thinking about getting some tractors because of HUGE engines😄
Hi Paul. I have a question on the ladder . Is it cable operated ? and if so how would it look ? Sorry that's 2 questions. Can't wait to see the outcome.
Yes there are cables and yes, I will be showing that off. In fact. today I finished painting the rungs....
@@pauly7218 thank you
Question, do you know of anyone who makes aftermarket firefighters that would fit this model? I'm finishing up mine and before I glue in cab, I would love to have a driver and pander to put in there. THANKS! Your video has been a godsend for me as I attempt to merge a 50 year old version my Dad started and a new kit. (Ps, also sent email with same question just in case) Thanks
Sorry, no. Maybe Shapeways has some the can print or even Thingiverse?
@@pauly7218 thanks for the feedback

Can’t wait!
Ive built all three kits a time or two and have never bothered building the engine. Who cares? You can't see it, why waste the time?
You've built this kit "hundreds" of times? Really?
