As you of course understand, there are many different kinds of trading - day trading Micro E-Minis is one of the more risky types of trading and it does take some work and time. It isn't for everyone of course. The win/loss rate even when you are good at it is only about 60/40% over the long haul. There will be runs of good/bad luck of course but the 60/40 is about as good as it gets. I love to trade them. For people who can afford to set aside some funds they can expose to higher risk trading, my advice is always to do some practice before putting money at risk.

Can you explain theTastyTrade margin requirements for the /MNQ?
Sure Mike: An account with TastyTrade with a balance of $2,500 or higher can use the smaller 'intra day' initial margin requirement (that is only 1/4 as much as the overnight margin required.) So if you are trading during regular market hours of 9:30am until 4:00pm, the margin is $485. Virtually all brokers will display the amount before you place a trade. It can vary a small bit day-to-day depending on the value of the MNQ's nominal value (that's the quote price X the point value ($2).
I know a lot of people want to trade the micros with much smaller accounts. Trying to trade with just a couple of hundred dollars or so is difficult to do - because if you have a loss, it is common to have to make a new deposit (what I'm saying is a trader won't have any slack.) If you new to futures trading, you can google and find out what a 'margin call' (something you want to avoid) is. Basically, it says if your balance gets too low, the broker may have to close your position for you - and restriction may be placed on your account.
I know for newbies to futures need to learn about this before they trade at all.

I noticed you have premarket data on. Any particular reason why? Would it be detrimental to have premarket data off when using the MACD in your strategy?
For me, there is no advantage in that. In fact, seeing the early hour trades (before the Eastern Zone) give me an edge to see overnight markets and the European trading.

What is the minimum balance required to day trade one single futures contract of the MES or other micro e-minis? Will $200 or $100 work?

I suggest $2500 to $5k. At TastyTrade, one can setup a type of account they call "the Works" with a $2.5k minimum. A lot of people open accounts and try to trade with a thousand or under. The problem with very small accounts is that you can lose a couple of trades and you have to stop to put more money in the account. That's a hard way to go but some can do it.

make sure your pc or laptop is a gaming one (is what I am hearing is best for trading) your internet is fast and have a backup plan for another pc or internet connection just incase.
Welcome Pkcmo. A great PC is nice as you say. However, most people on regular PC's will find them more than adequate for trading. As you recommend -- a reliable internet connection is a must. These days, a trade confirm is on your screen in less than 50 milliseconds, about half the time of the blink of the eye.

@@DayTradingMicroFutures Don I have a pretty nice laptop with a intel core i7 processor had my internet upgraded to 600mbps and still is locking up to scary for me to try and trade on it. Stinks
I like your analysis to see the possibilities for making a trade from the previous day. The CPI index announced on the 10th of April at 8AM... and market dropped ~350 points on the 5-minute candle. the RTH following was *nothing but consolidation*. --High ATR and long wicks going nowhere but whipsawing.-. I suppose it could have been a good opportunity to do some scalping on a lower time frame...however... tight stops and you have a huge chance, maybe greater than the kid tossing a ping-pong ball, of getting blown out of the water time and time again. Nice two trading days after though. Anyway, my point is for my style the RTH after the CPI announcement was a day to do other things than trade. The pareidolia you mention is very real and so is staring at the previous day's chart and saying I would a should a could a.

Once again, great video. One question, when a trade is moving that quickly I caught myself telling you to let go of the mouse button before it made a quick reversal. If it does reverse quickly and it goes above where you had your stop loss, but you hadn't let go of the mouse button. If you let go of the button while it is below the price, will it still stop out and essentially be slippage, or will it not stop
Yes, if you let go of the mouse button on the 'other side' the stop order dissapears and then go to 'positions' tab and enter another stop. For a new trader, this is very disorienting but it's an easy fix. And you are right, with the button down, the price can 'run under' you and cancel the stop order. I usually kill the target price, then go back to the positions tab and reenter a 'bracket order.'

Hello Derek: Call your broker and ask. It varies from broker to broker. If you will be trading the day session (9:30 am - 4pm EDT) ask what the 'intra day' margin initial requirement.

@@derekd8859 I suggest $2500 to $5k. At TastyTrade, one can setup a type of account they call "the Works" with a $2.5k minimum. A lot of people open accounts and try to trade with a thousand or under. The problem with very small accounts is that you can lose a couple of trades and you have to stop to put more money in the account. That's a hard way to go but some can do it.
There are brokers where you can open and trade for $500 - you might check Ninji or Tradovate. I would suggest you use a trade simulator or paper money account until you have more than $500. It is your call of course. Good luck to you Derek ---- Don

I suggest $2,500 to $5k. (TastyTrades 'the works' account requires a $2.5 minimum. You can start with less at some of the other brokers - but it is really tough to start with just a few hundred because if you have a few losing trades, you have to stop until you make another deposit. Something in the $2.5k to $5k range is a good starting amount and is a better experience.

So you have to have a stop limit order in to be able to actually see click it trade it?
no, that is not a requirement. Call your broker when have questions like this one; not all brokers have identical policies.

Don, exactly what went into the decision to take this trade? You don't really explain that clearly. Just looking at the chart I don't see anything that jumps out as a reason to sell here.
There is no 'mechanical setup' or hard rules for guaranteed profits. If there was, I would show it to you right now and everyone could quite their jobs on Monday. Beware of those who imply easy money. If things sound too good to be true, they usually are.

Hey Don! I've been at this method for a long time but found I couldn't sustain the schedule/energy for intraday trading like this. I noticed that this looks like it works on daily charts as well. As long as risk control is tight it looks like this could work on slower timeframes as well right?
I would say probably NOT. If you are talking/thinking of holding trades overnight--- that is very, very risky. You should do trade simulation, no real money to test your idea out. Let me know how it goes. When trading futures you can lose money really fast. I'll stick to the day trades with quick in/outs.

Don, do you generally use the 5 min chart ? I have been looking for MACD on both the 5 min and 1 minute on two screens looking for confluence, not getting a ton of set ups. thinking maybe I should ditch the 1 minute.
Two suggestion for you:
Trading with different time intervals and/or regularly changing your chat and trade signal indicators often makes it difficult to be consistent.

Mr. Don -- what do you think about other indicators, such as the RSI, Bollinger Bands, et cetera? As someone who relies heavily on numerous different indicators for certain strategies, I am curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks for the videos! I'll be purchasing the book shortly.
With your experience, I would stick to the trade signal indicator that you have the most confidence. I hasten to add, Trading with the 5 minute candlestick is recommended and if you haven't traded with such a short interval then you are in for a new experience. 80% of my trades less than 5 minutes. As you will see in the videos here on the channel - I am very selective on choosing trades, and I use the 'click and drag' mouse to use my stop-loss order very aggressively.
Think of an experienced surfer, who waits for the ‘good wave’ before getting on board and then has a great but short run for his reward. The trend is your friend, trading guessing reversals is not recommended by me at all. Go with the flow and all that! Good luck to you - Don

I have 25 years experience. I am constantly making around 500 per month per MNQ. You are very articulate, I am using an unorthodox strategy to be continually profitable that I can't share. But all the information you presented, I learned myself the hard way, was needed before the transition. I suggest people read your book first and craft their own strategy on top of it by doing sim account before going live. Lastly, I won't advertise any brokerage but let's not forget that the lower the commission, the higher the return. So choose your brokerage wisely. Cheers!
