This was written by David Foster for the movie Quest for Camelot. I wish Pentatonix would see reactions like yours. They bring so much joy to people and you showed that. Thank you.
See, that was the question I had. Was it written for Quest for Camelot or did they just use it in the film, but this makes sense. I had never heard the song before Quest for Camelot came out. Thanks for clearing that up!
so many people don't get that old reference because the movie wasn't as popular as it should have been though it's songs are well known. kudos for mentioning it.
That part you had to repeat is commonly called the Pentatonix Wall of Sound. You know you’ve been hit with it when you feel your chest vibrate. Glorious. Truly this version will be one for the ages!
As noted by Katybug, this song was originally written for an animated movie, "Quest For Camelot" and Celine Dion was the singing voice of the mother of the heroine of the movie. Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster wrote the song. Later, Celine and Andrea Bocelli performed a duet that hit pop charts briefly. The other language is Italian due to the Celine/Andrea duet. In the movie, only a couple of verses are sung as the heroine rides to get help. The mother sings "Let HER find her way, lead her to a place where she can be safe, ... " stuff about praying for her daughter. The updated version with Celine and Andrea made it first-person rather than third-person.
David Foster wrote the song for Andrea Bocelli( as an Italian opera singer the majority of Andrea's lyrics are in Italian) and Celine Dion whose lyrics are mainly in English. Therefore the original song is covered by other Singers vut was originally made famous by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.
Listening to this I cried like a little baby !!!! I am 57, this is more beautiful then any sunrise I have ever witnessed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is their finest song, ever! Even better than Amazing Grace, which I didn't think they would be able to top. I know we are all praying this will be another Grammy for them!!!
It does injustice to their catalog to pick a song and say "this is their best" so I won't. Instead I can say "This is PTX at the very top of their game; it may not be the best but there's nothing better."
Pentatonix has been around for awhile. I like their Christmas songs. Josh Groban has been singing the Prayer for years. Pentatonix is from Arlington, TX. Andrea Boccelli sings it in Italian.
They are absolutely amazing. I love this song and I loved Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli and then Celine and Josh Groban did the song< but this tops that even. Pentatonix did a beautiful job and I love listening to it over and over. It can't get any better than this.
If you like Bohemian Rhapsody, make sure to check that out bc its absolutely bonkers. Brian from Queen even shared it saying "enjoy" so you know its quality
What is so impressive about their singing is there is no auto-tune whatsoever when you hear them in the studio when you hear them in concert your ARE hearing exactly the same thing. We cannot wait to watch your girlfriend's reaction to this., if you can listen to this performance without either wanting to cry or your heart racing or both at the same time. It proves you are truly not human
Other videos, you should react too, are: " Imagine ", " Mary did you know", and Superfruits," Frozen Medley ", with Kirsty, Scott and Mitch!!! Welcome down the PTX, rabbit hole!! Vickie from SE Pa
Thank you for your reaction and enthusiasm. Matt is not new. He has been with Pentatonix since December 2017 and an official, amazing member since beginning of 2018. Many, many videos of him since that time and awesome live shows with PTX. Other commenters named some great songs to react to. Maybe add: Making Christmas, Mr. Grinch, Where are you Christmas, New Rules x Are you that Somebody, When the Party's Over, the entire Lucky Ones Deluxe CD (all originals), and the entire Evergreen newly released CD that includes The Prayer, and PTX's cover of I Just Called to Say I Love You ... breathtaking songs, enjoy your journey. Hopefully some of these.
He said Matt was new to him, not to us, he said he knew he's been there a few years. Beesly just hasn't seen many videos with him so far so he's still a new face to him catching up.
The goal of any artist is to touch the hearts and souls of their listeners. Pentatonix achieves that with every single song that they perform. I don’t think you stopped smiling once throughout their performance.
I’m always in awe of their amazing talent. It is so lovely to see how many people of all ages, venues, from around the world enjoy them as well. Great reaction. 🤗
It's is a cover of the song written for Celine Dion and opera singer, Andrea Bocelli, and his portion is what Scott sings in Italian. It was written for Quest for Camelot.
I'm so thrilled you said something about Matt!! No one ever mentions him bc as you said the vocals are so outstanding but without the bass holding it down the vocals wouldn't be quite as outstanding
David Foster, a well known and saught after Canadians are songwriter to many genre. Canadian Celine Dion, a pop amazing singer and Andrea Bocelli, an Italian Opera singer recorded it.
Loved your reaction and the looks on your face. In my opinion, this performance is PTXs best to date. Mitch’s beautiful angelic voice and his solos with Scott and Kirstin were perfection. 💕
Definitely a cover, originally performed by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (so Scott is singing in Italian). And yes, Mitch's voice is that of the angels. For the original see ua-cam.com/video/qt_OkgSOrkU/v-deo.html
Great reaction Beesley! ☺ I love this song, and as others have stated, this is a cover originally done by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. I've heard it sung by many different artists over the years, and I can say PTX's version is one of my favorites.
Loved your reaction...look forward to seeing more pentatonix reactions..im from Melbourne Australia the most locked down city in the world...and watching your chanel has kept me sane🤣
Scott sings in Italian in this one. There are several songs in which they sing at least part of the song in another language. Papaouti (with Lindsey Stirling on violin and Kevin on cello) is all in French with Scott on lead, Gagnam Style is mostly in Korean, they sing in Japanese in their Perfume Medley and Midnight in Tokyo, and Spanish in their excellent mashup Despacito x Shape of You
I loved the look on your face as you watched and listened. I see others have commented on the origins so I won't bother except to note that PTX do great credit to the original by Celine and Andrea, who are two of the best in their own space! Thanks for a positive review!
Enjoying your reactions to Ptx. Suggest you do a couple original compositions - 'Sing' and 'Come Along' Both are very high energy and think you'll love them. For a couple covers you will be amazed by, 'Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone' and all of their Christmas music. Start with 'Carol Of The Bells.' Enjoy!
Yes, you'll enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody. I would also suggest Sound of Silence and Amazing Grace. Christmas is coming and my favorite Christmas song of theirs is Little Drummer Boy. You really can't go wrong with anything PTX!
Thanks for sharing this. I know the version by Andrea Bocelli & Celine Dion & there also was a great version by Charlotte Church and Josh Groban (who also stood in for Bocelli). This version was truly amazing as well.
Thank you so much for listening and reacting!!! It’s just one of those songs that you want to share! I don’t think y’all celebrate Thanksgiving over there, but HAPPY THANKSGIVING anyway…lol. By far my favorite holiday. Maybe because Christmas is coming and it’s all about family, friends, food and football!!! Most importantly it’s about giving thanks for who and what we DO have, rather than dwelling on what we don’t…
As others have pointed out, "The Prayer" is from Quest For Camelot, which is a 1998 Warner Bros animated musical film. Celine Dion provided the singing voice for one of the main characters and sang "The Prayer" in the movie. For some reason, they also included an Italian version of the song on the soundtrack, sung by Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Dion's English version won the 1998 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was also nominated for an Academy Award (losing to "When You Believe" from The Prince Of Egypt). Other than this song, the film was considered a flop, both critically and financially. "The Prayer" was such a hit, however, that they decided to record an English/Italian duet version with Dion and Bocelli. The duet was released on Celine's 1998 Christmas album, 'These Are Special Times' and also appeared on Bocelli's 1999 solo album 'Sogno'. This song has been covered many, many times over the past 23 years, both solo and duet, so I'm surprised you haven't heard at least one version of it. The most well-known renditions are the Dion/Bocelli collaboration and the 2008 Celine Dion/Josh Groban live version.
Bohemian Rhapsody Imagine Can you feel the love tonight Sounds of Silence Just a few to react to. There's many other great ones out there but I can't think of it right now lol
Welcome to their Wall of Sound! Hope you do some more PTX reactions, looks like you haven't done one in a year or so. I watch your brittsh couples reactions too and just found your ptx reactions and I am loving your journey into my favorite band! Some recommendations: Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), Imagine, Sound of Silence, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't, and if you want more songs with them singing foreign languages...there's a french song they covered called 'Papaoutai' and it is gorgeous and they collaborate with Lindsey Stirling in that one, as well as Radioactive and Over The River!
This song in my opinion is sung a lot in Italian based operas … and theater musical performances // Jonathan Antion sung this in a duet on Britain’s Got Talent
If you liked the middle part so much, you should check out their take on "Imagine" by John Lennon - they created a pure wall of sound there as well :) Great reaction!
Last comment....please replay or comment on what you like in a Music video. After all most of us have seen this multiple times we want to see you. 😆 enjoy them. Lastly, really look at defying gravity from wicked the musical by Suoerfruit (Scott and Mitch). You got listen to Mitch!!!!
Just so you now, PTX doesn’t ever really cover any song. They a change any song that’s not their own original and always make it better. They revamp the song to their style. Love your reactions to them singing.
The new guys name IS Matt, and he IS bass and BeatBox. Scots part, The blond guy, IS singing in italian. anda dont forget Kevin at The BeatBox....listen for The instruments..he IS brillant. There id nothing new to say about Amazing Mitch...have you had your Mitch slap today??
New subscriber based on your reaction to this song. Good luck & I recommend - Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine and Sound of Silence & Amazing Grace. Mitch and Scott did Rise with 3 other artists which is a must see & the collaboration with Todrick Hall Wizard of AHHs is also a masterpiece.. But this one...... Their Best so far!!
The ‘new guy’ (not really new, he has been with PTX since late 2017!) is Matt Sallee. He actually got married on January 2, 2022! Congratulations to Matt and his wife, Sarah! (Future lawyer-she’s a law student!).
This is a cover. I know the song writers. I think the first artist was Celine Dion & Josh Groban. Anthony Callea, and of course Celine Dion & Andre Bocelli is the most famous. Pentatonix do have original songs. And sometimes sing in different languages. One recent one was 'Midnight in Tokyo' with the J-Pop group Little Gee Monster (I think that is right) I was surprised to see Scott trying Japanese. Kirstie did that before. But if you like your music really 'poppy' (which I really don't) give it a listen sometime. Pentatonix has give free license to some of their original covers too. There are always conditions of course. So put some singers together Bees, & go download some of their sheet music. LOL!!
There is also the Radioactive cover by Pentatonix and Lindsy Stirling. It is amazing. I don't know if you have heard of Lindsy Stirling but if not you should react to her songs Crystallize, Shadows, and The Arena.
If you get a chance, watch the Hallelujah live performance. Most people actually think it’s better than the video. I’m definitely one of those people 🤩
As many have said, The Prayer debuted in Quest for Camelot (The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot is the International title). It is a mother singing a prayer for her daughter’s safety as they are being attacked. Pentatonix just blows this away with beauty and their intense harmonies. This bit of the movie will seem odd if you’re not familiar with the villain using sorcery to create a mutated army. ua-cam.com/video/o3KKQc5EqiM/v-deo.html
“The Prayer” is originally by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. That is why Scott sings the Italian part like Andrea Bocelli did in the original. The other black gentleman is the one that replace Avi in 2017. They are awesome no matter what they touch. I will have to look to see if you have done anything on "Home Free" another acapella group that will blow your mind for sure. They did a "Boyz II Men" cover to End of The Road.
I think you should check out 'Amazing Grace, My Chains are Gone' and 'Imagine' (Lennon). Both are utterly amazing. I believe Imagine is one of the first videos with Matt Sallie in it; he is the bass replacing Avi. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (Queen) is a masterpiece; you will be shocked by Mitch's guitar solo. They just did a cover of Queen's 'Somebody' from the Queen Family Sing Along in the U.S., though I have yet to find a decent video of that. Oh and, as others mention, check PTX out in their cover of 'Mad World' (Tears for Fears). They all sing in lower registers for each and it is haunting.
The new bass is Matt Salee who took over for Avi Kaplan in 2017.
This is the Prayer original sung by Andrea Bocceli and Celine Dionne. Written by David Foster.
i have every CD that pentatonix has ever released even their christmas ones
You're not an idiot, it is Italian and Scott's Italian is impeccable.
Would love to see Millie’s reaction to this performance.

David Foster and Carol Bayer Sager. With Celine Dion as the singing voice of the mother in the animated movie.
Mitch is an amazing counter tenor!
That part you had to repeat is commonly called the Pentatonix Wall of Sound. You know you’ve been hit with it when you feel your chest vibrate. Glorious. Truly this version will be one for the ages!
Hallelujah is another example of their Wall of Sound. They have such voice control. 🧡🧡
The epic Wall of Sound in 'Imagine' is also fantastic.
As noted by Katybug, this song was originally written for an animated movie, "Quest For Camelot" and Celine Dion was the singing voice of the mother of the heroine of the movie. Mitch is in absolutely top form here! Beautiful version of this song.
Also check out their cover of The Sound of Silence", Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, Mary Did You Know
Scott is singing in Italian and doing it spectacularly!!! Love everyone's performance. Wonderful!-
Listening to this I cried like a little baby !!!!

And goosebumps everytime they come together and sing
The part near the end where they all join together and the sound swells - that's called the "wall of sound" and they're known for it!
They are absolutely amazing. I love this song and I loved Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli and then Celine and Josh Groban did the song< but this tops that even. Pentatonix did a beautiful job and I love listening to it over and over. It can't get any better than this.

Anything that Pentatonix does is great
It is a cover. I don't know who originally did it, but Celene Dion and different partners have done it.
Great that you shouted out the bass (Matt) who grounded the rest of the magnificent vocals. It is a cover, but wow!
I heard this 20 minutes after they released it and I was so impressed. I’m so glad you liked it. Their cover is spellbinding.
If this knocked your socks off, then you'll love "Amazing Grace." 😊
Mitch and Kirsten are the chameleons of the group

Andrea & Celine had a huge orchestra. These guys have 5 voices.
I live in Boston mass and half English/Irish..I love Thomas Shelby!!Yea, Mitch is incredible
I have loved your reactions thus far but I am so looking forward to seeing Millie's reactions along side yours. Will be brilliant I'm sure.
It's is a cover of the song written for Celine Dion and opera singer, Andrea Bocelli, and his portion is what Scott sings in Italian. It was written for Quest for Camelot.

Love Pentatonix. I'm sure you have heard them sing Hallelujah. It's really good as well. And Amazing Grace.
I've seen it so many times and it still gives me goosebumps. Great reaction.
Absolutely loved your reaction Beesley! This shows the epicness of Pentatonix no matter what genre they take on!
You can never go wrong with this group they are completely amazing you should definitely do more videos on them
Enjoyed it!!👍

You seem to really enjoy these. They have tons of other Christmas themed songs if you want to watch more for the season.
I loved the look on your face as you watched and listened. I see others have commented on the origins so I won't bother except to note that PTX do great credit to the original by Celine and Andrea, who are two of the best in their own space! Thanks for a positive review!

Loved your reaction to their cover of celine dion and a famous Italian singer i can't recall right now.
It is a cover of the song that Andreas Bocelli and Celine Dion sang about 10 years ago. Bocelli sang the Italian and Dion sang the English
Great reaction
Great reaction! Subscribed!

Just so you now, PTX doesn’t ever really cover any song. They a change any song that’s not their own original and always make it better. They revamp the song to their style. Love your reactions to them singing.
Loved watching your reaction..
It is a cover and Jonathan Antoine did it with Charlotte wining Britain got talent about 2013 or so (guess)

It's a cover. Scott is, indeed, singing in Italian.

All except the Little Gee Monster is supposed to be Little Glee Monster.
@@gingerjohnson1095 Thanks Ginger. I knew something didn't sound right.
The first male to record this was Andrea BOCELLI. Josh Groban stepped in when BOCELLI was unable to!
I think this year is the first year in 5 years since they released an original song.
There is also the Radioactive cover by Pentatonix and Lindsy Stirling. It is amazing. I don't know if you have heard of Lindsy Stirling but if not you should react to her songs Crystallize, Shadows, and The Arena.
So bueatiful
If you get a chance, watch the Hallelujah live performance. Most people actually think it’s better than the video. I’m definitely one of those people 🤩

Actually, Avi sang Imagine. I definitely agree with your recommendations though.
Nope. Avi is the bass in Imagine. Matt's first PTX video was Sound Of Silence
