This outdoes the Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion version both for production (to be fair, they simply stood and sang) but also for vocals. Five people making as much sound as the orchestra and the singers, but also telling the story. Far more inspiring. I love Andrea Bocelli and have for years, but this version upgraded from the original. Scott is singing in Italian and Mitch is actually translating again like the original. And don’t forget they will do this live on tour. One thing especially good about PTX is they never record anything they can’t do live. This was the first song released on their newest album "Evergreen" for the Christmas tour 2021. There is a video on UA-cam somewhere of the making of this video and I am sure it was indoors. Scott is actually singing in Latin!!! It used to be the Original Language spoken in Italy. They obviously speak differently now all over Italy!!! I love that you recognize that Mitch is actually using his head voice instead of a falsetto. Most people assume that because he's singing so high that it's a falsetto. No. Mitch just has such a trained and amazing voice that he can maintain his head voice at the top end of his highest register. Also, I think this is Scott's best performance out of everything I've heard from them. He really shined in this. Love his clear tone and range. Absolutely beautiful.

All I can say is that, they're ALIENS! The human voice cannot do these things. The human voice cannot surpass the angels. This has quickly become my favorite Christmas song of all time and fighting it out for a top 10 spot for ANY kind of music. I'm setting here in shock, with tears and goosebumps all at the same time. The Prayer was written by David Foster and Carol Bayer Sager for the movie The Quest for Camelot and written for Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (which is why Scott started in Italian, as Andrea did). The two most famous versions are the original with Dion and Bocelli and another with Celine and Josh Groban. How Groban got there is one of the great stories in music. Bocelli was stuck in Europe and couldn't make the rehearsal for the Grammys and David Foster needed a stand-in for the rehearsal with Celine. He called a vocal coach friend who recommended a young 17 year old Josh. Who initially turned it down because it was too high. Foster wouldn't take no and Josh did the rehearsal, and the rest is music history. And I'm sure David Foster would be thrilled with this arrangement and performance of The Prayer. There may be another performance of The Prayer at the Grammys coming up soon. This time, PTX.

I am French Canadian and am fluent in both English and French, a bit of German and Italian. This song is on the new album they just dropped last week. The album is called "Evergreen". They are going on a Christmas tour in the US starting the end of November through a few days before Christmas. Many of the songs, including "The Prayer" will be performed there. Sorry you won't get this in Europe, but they are coming to Europe in the spring. I hope you can attend.

They did a live version of this song on the recent iHeartRadio christmas special. I think it's even more special than this produced version. Without the background layers it really highlights their incredible voices. You should definitely check it out!

Those of us who have been fans since the Sing-Off in 2011 will tell you that the surprise never goes away. They just keep getting better and better. This brought all the emotions. I have already seen it about 15 times, but your reactions, just brought more love for it.! I was pretty sure it was a very well decorated sound stage. My clue, is you can not see their breath when singing, so it was not cold. That is what I watch for in any 'snowy' scene. Thank you for continuing to react to Pentatonix!

It looks as though the intent of the video was to have them lost on the woods (which is suggested by the lyrics) just before dawn, and then the sun starts to rise as they all sing the bridge together. As my skeptical engineer husband noted, the snow must be all CGI - Kirstin's hair, in particular, should be full of snowflakes if it were real or artificial snow in the studio.
Our church choir had an actual contra tenor for years. They are rare and amazing. Not falsetto, he was awesome at the high end of his range. Like Mitch.🎵🙏🏾

It is with over 8 minutes a longer song, but it's definitively worth every second. It has won a Grammy and to be honest, I've never heard such amazing harmonies, not even if you go back to classical composers. Since you have a good knowledge in music, I think it would fit perfectly to you! It would be great if you'd respond whether you consider reacting on it or not! There is a "behind the scenes" video for this song. Kirstin talked about how they made the outdoor scene on a sound stage. Kevin didn't like the first take because he had too much snow on his face. Then again they did "Bohemian" outdoors from midnight to 6am. They are dedicated musicians.

Hello, Bonjour, Guten Tag and Buona giornata......(English, French, German and Italian). I just love your reaction to this song. It is one of their best ever, in my opinion. I am French Canadian and am fluent in both English and French, a bit of German and Italian. Scott is singing in Italian as this song became a huge hit by Andrea Bocelli (Italian tenor) and Celine Dion. Even though they are two of the best singers ever, my ears and heart belong to the Pentatonix version at this point. I see below that someone has already mentioned this but what the heck...here I go. I totally enjoy and appreciate your reaction to the song...keep it up YBPlayMusic ..I have to mention how handsome you are !!!!!!!!

I cried thru the whole video. I was so glad to see Mitch sing the first solo. His voice is truly a gift from God. Then Scott singing the second verse in Italian…Wholly Cow.Then Mitch and Kristy just set this on fire. Last but not least give it up for Kevin and Matt who holds it together.Best performance I have ever seen from them. If this doesn’t earn them their 4th Grammy I don’t know what will. Such a great reaction to a stunningly beautiful song! Kevin and Scott in separate livestreams talked about how incredibly hard the arrangement of this song was…even bringing in Ben Bram (sp idk?) to help. Whatever the case, it was well worth the trouble!!! Mitch’s angelic singing throughout, Scott’s Italian, Scott and Kirstie’s duet, Kirstie and Mitch, Kirstie, AND Kevin and Matt making it ALL come together…just WOW!!! Only PTX….Did I mention Mitch’s Angelic voice throughout…lol! Thanks for a great reaction, and I, for one, did appreciate your comments on the lighting. Subconsciously I was aware of it…thanks again.

This song was written by David Foster & Carol Bayer Sager for Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli. Mitch is singing Celine & Scott is singing Adrea.
This song is on the new album they just dropped last week. The album is called "Evergreen". They are going on a Christmas tour in the US starting the end of November through a few days before Christmas. Many of the songs, including "The Prayer" will be performed there. Sorry you won't get this in Europe, but they are coming to Europe in the spring. I hope you can attend.
Yes!!!! This is such an amazing video and song!!!! I listened to it with my Mom in the car and we just kept freaking out at how many different changes and amazing (like always) vocals they had in this one song. Such a powerful song. I love PTX

I had to smile when you said you'd already covered a lot of their songs, nine or ten at least, and you were surprised that you could still be so--surprised. Those of us who have been fans since the Sing-Off in 2011 will tell you that the surprise never goes away. They just keep getting better and better. With almost 300 videos on UA-cam (some documemtary), you have a lot of surprises in store!

Kevin actually said that Scott was singing at the very top of his range for this one, and he just puts so much power and emotion behind when he sings that I love it sooo much!! And the Italian…wow! This is truly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard! 💙 And I highly recommend their whole Christmas album that this is off of Evergreen, it’s amazing!

This has been on repeat since it’s release. I thought it was outside too at first, but now think it was a set. Stunning visuals though- only the best for those vocals!
This brought all the emotions. I have already seen it about 15 times, but your reactions, just brought more love for it.! I was pretty sure it was a very well decorated sound stage. My clue, is you can not see their breath when singing, so it was not cold. That is what I watch for in any 'snowy' scene. Thank you for continuing to react to Pentatonix!

Scott is singing in Italian! Folks downthread have already done a great job of explaining why. It looks as though the intent of the video was to have them lost on the woods (which is suggested by the lyrics) just before dawn, and then the sun starts to rise as they all sing the bridge together. As my skeptical engineer husband noted, the snow must be all CGI - Kirstin's hair, in particular, should be full of snowflakes if it were real or artificial snow in the studio.
I can t wait to hear this in a live performance. I know they did a shorter version on AGT, but I’m sure the full live version will be just as amazing.

Hey there, it's not the first time I watched one of your ptx reactions and I really like how you have the musical background and are able to comment on it! As a complete Pentaholic for at least 8 years I absolutely love this song! And I could recommend so much from ptx, you could do like a year of content xD
But if I'd just get one song that I'm allowed to recommend you it would be Moon River from Jacob Collier. It is with over 8 minutes a longer song, but it's definitively worth every second. It has won a Grammy and to be honest, I've never heard such amazing harmonies, not even if you go back to classical composers. Since you have a good knowledge in music, I think it would fit perfectly to you!

There is a "behind the scenes" video for this song. Kirstin talked about how they made the outdoor scene on a sound stage. Kevin didn't like the first take because he had too much snow on his face. Then again they did "Bohemian" outdoors from midnight to 6am. They are dedicated musicians.
