Italian Coral Gemstone: It is one of the most commonly trading varieties of India, especially used by the traders of North India. It is the collection of corallum rub rum which is found in the Mediterranean Sea with a depth of 10 to 300 meters below sea level. Japanese Coral Gemstone: This gemstone is also use in India as social status. In ancient times there was a ritual of gifting Japanese Coral stone to the groom and the bride during the marriage. This type of detection works for stones that have experienced diffusion before being faceted. The color enhancement can only go so deep - when the rough piece of sapphire is faceted, much of the surface is removed which also removes much of the "new" color. It's at the facet edges that the least amount of material has been cut away. As a result, the added color will be thicker along those lines as apposed to the center of each facet.
Honestly, the best way is to send to GIA, they can grade the stones 100% with the confidence. But star in diffusion stone usually has color concentration, but being a cabochon that could be difficult, so you better see the price you are buying it at, if its a steal price, then forget it, because it wont happen.
Diffusion is a technique whereby certain natural elements, those used in nature when colouring allochromatic gems, are placed on the surface of the gem during the heating process and the colour is diffused into the gem. You can also check our article on heat treatment of sapphires: www.navneetgems.com/htp-treatment-on-blue-sapphire-qa-with-mubashir-mansoor/.
The key indicator of diffusion is color bleeding - dark concentrations of the stone's color - around pits and fractures that extend to the stone's surface. Other indicators of treatment include melted crystals, spotty stripes of color, fractures around inclusions, and pits on the surface.
Sapphire is treated with diffusion treatment you will likely see a concentration of color on the edges of the stone’s facets like this stone here. However in this second sapphire without diffusion you will not be able to see any concentration of color on most facets.
The diffusion technique, which involves the addition of color-causing chemicnls during heat trentment, results in a thin layer of color at the surface of colorless or light-colored sapphire.
I learnt more in 10 seconds from you than I’ve learnt in 1 month from anyone else. 🙏

So the concentration of color at the edge means a diffusion?
Diffusion occurs when molecules in an area of higher concentration move to an area of lower concentration.

How to detect diffusion in star stones? Are they treated to generate the star and enhance color at the same time, or can it be done separately?
Honestly, the best way is to send to GIA, they can grade the stones 100% with the confidence. Hi there, when u say diffusion, does it mean it is heated? Sorry, newbie here..

@@NavneetGemsMinerals yes. Thank you. 😊
is this what they call titanium diffusion?
The key indicator of diffusion is color bleeding - dark concentrations of the stone's color - around pits and fractures that extend to the stone's surface. Other indicators of treatment include melted crystals, spotty stripes of color, fractures around inclusions, and pits on the surface.
Diffused stone is it treated ?? For astrology purpose is it beneficial?? I mean treated
A treated gemstone does not have the same magical properties that a pure untreated stone does. Thus, such stones are not preferred in astrology.
Diffused means treated???
