I would say that your heart is really like this excellent soil you take care with so much love , I mean it's so productive and strong, keep doing this amazing job, I hope you have a very long life to inspire all of us by planting in our soul every single good seed to bear beautiful fruits in our lives 😊
I am a horticulturist and this is my tip. -when using drip irrigation, run and peg down the drip irrigation then plant your small seedlings using the drip holes as markers, 1. You will get your plant spacing perfect and 2. Your plants will be right on the dripper’s where they need to be. So many people do it the other way round and I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve seen dripper’s know where near the root ball of the plant and therefore does not receive any water.
I really love that kind of place.. How i wish i can have a place or lot to put up my own garden.. I'm obsessed of being a gardener in my own backyard. Hoping Lord God will help me to make my dreams come true..
I have recently been watching your videos here and found them very informative. I started gardening during covid lockdown to keep myself, my family, and my mum busy. However, there weren't enough gardening materials available- only available online orders, and takes weeks for the order to arrive. That's where I utilized free and recycled materials available locally. Now, After two years of learning about gardening, we are fortunately covering our backyard with green vegetables and spending more time in the garden than indoors. I wished I had started gardening a long time ago. One thing I used to hate was when I had to visit mum, she had always been in a garden so we spend fewer hours indoors but now when I visit mum, we spend more time in her garden.
Thank you for keeping us focused on growing a greener world. I use to watch you on HGTV when gardening shows were popular. I am glad that I have found you again. My urban cottage garden will look better with all of your tips. I want to save money and have more beauty in my garden. Thank you!
The broken bag tip is great. I do that and then mix my own potting soil. If possible, we use the empty bags for garbage. We have also received free wood chips, and it saved us so much $$$. I’ve added shredded leaves to my beds for a few years now and it has made such a difference to improving my heavy clay soil. My plants love it! My husband uses the thick spring grass clippings to mulch vegetable beds. It forms a thick mat that holds in moisture and prevents weeds.
When getting wood chips and leaves be sure of the type of chips and leaves. Black Walnut chips and leaves can prevent plants from producing what you want to eat.
Thanks, Virginia! So happy to hear that. Thanks for letting me know! And in case you don't know, my other UA-cam channel is all about the learning with short, how-to videos. Here's the link to that one: ua-cam.com/users/joegardenerTV
I pick up bags of leaves left at curb sides for trash pick up. I put them in the garden walk ways and wood chips on top of that. It looks nice, suppress weeds and it is right next to the garden to be used once they have broken down.
I had no idea you could start new tomato plants from suckers. What a great idea. I usually buy late plants and put them out. Wonder how many other plants that came be done with? Thanks for the great video and info.
Yes! One of the easiest and most effective things you can do! Other plants are not as easy. Some will root, like eggplant cuttings and peppers. Experiment and see. Fun project!
great connections, thank you. Locally, the recycle center for yard waste, chops up leaves and it breaks down to black gold over time. Also they have chopped up wood, almost as good as big box shredded bark, for me, it great to line paths in and around the garden. By putting down cardboard first, this suppresses weeds and grass, so there is no other maintainance, which I love! In time it breaks down but topping it off by revisiting and picking up chopped wood makes this convenient and free! I'm planning on doing another area, cleared of dogwood and making a patio, sitting area overlooking the garden from above. I am so excited, these tips really have helped. Thank you
Please don’t forget to wear hearing protection when using your lawn mower, leaf blower, etc. anything over 85dB (vacuums, hair driers, etc.) needs protection so not to loose your hearing.
Another great video Joe.The tomato cages I would not cut the bottom to make spikes. You lose a foot.I would take re bar ans ziptie them.I like making raisedbed out of palletwood.I give other gardeners in my communitygarden suckers.I do not take them off.You should come to Brooklyn,NY to Floyd Bennett Field Gardens Association. To do a show about communitygardens around the country.
Hi, Charlie. Yes, there are nuances to how you customize the cages to suit your needs. Not using the spikes definitely gets you a taller cage! I'll have to get to Brooklyn, NY and check out the gardens there as well as other Community Gardens. We did a show on Community Gardens early on. Perhaps it's time for an update. Thanks for your message.
Joe, I had no idea you could plant the suckers of tomatoes! I may have to try that this year. Thank you for the info. Great videos, please keep sharing. Love your channel.
I took cuttings from healthy tops to grow in my indoor garden. They root fast, their about the size of 3 month old seedlings so they should produce faster. Wish me luck .
When my groceries store opens up their garden centre I ask for their compost . I have gotten so much free soil and tons of plants that are perfectly good
Me too, Troy. If you get a chance you should let KCPT know this too. They need to hear from their viewers when you like something. It will go a long way to keeping it on the air when they are deciding how to fill that time slot with all the programming decisions they have to make.
This is very excellent!!! I just finished watching the whole thing. I shared it at my Facebook group American Gardens and Outdoors and my Facebook page Hangin Out With Stan. Now I will watch it again.
Each panel is 16 ft. one. Each panel makes one tomato cage with enough left over to make a smaller cage for peppers or eggplant, plus extra pieces that have many uses in the garden.
Thank you for your valuable advice it's very helpful, I have a vital question, my neighbor is using deadly weed killer but now on my property, it's posing me, my weeds, my lavender, roses, marigolds, vegetables etc all of which I grew without poisons I was growing them for food, medicinal and body cleaning. Now I can't do that is their anything that I can use to protect myself and my plants. As Olivia Newton John hired doctor's and vets that have all said that weed killer causes cancer, which my evil neighbour was actually dying of and his doctor's said he had less than 2 weeks to live stupidly I prayed and he was miraculously healed from terminal cancer. Your help would be greatly appreciated thank you God bless you and your family love from Wendy Drummond from Adelaide South Australia and congratulations on your videos
Gardening on the Cheap...save $ on starting your plant from seeds with a more $10000.00 dollars greenhouse...the energy that it used to make the greenhouse...More s.....y
11:57, he says the lawn clippings help his lawn so he doesn't have to fertilize as much. If you are using fertilizer, then it cannot be organic. Also, paper bags in the compost are not organic as there are synthetic binders that glue the paper together. Pallets usually have fumigation chemicals in them to prevent rot and contamination of product being carried on them in transport and storage.
If you look at the size of wood that this guy used to build his raise bed and if everyone would to the same, it wood destroy all the forest of the world. THE SIZE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TREES WAS USE TO BUILD HIS RAISE BED. I stupid can't we be.
These raised beds will probably last over 20 years! You could probably make them with thinner timber but you’ll replace every few years. So it’s counter productive you’ll use more lumber.
Hahahaa, "gardening on the cheap" and the first tip is to buy a 16' cattle fencing (how are you getting that home?) ,and each cage you make costs $20.- ?? Hmm, you lost me at that ! Btw, what does the 16' cattle fence cost? Bad start, ill pass on this video at this point🙄
Please keep the background music lower. It is very distracting and takes away from your whole video. I can’t watch your shows anymore if you continue with this annoying background music.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for bringing back Paul James. He's the reason I'm a Master Gardener today.
Bonnie Borthen I too miss Paul James. Loved all of his shows. Too bad the commercial stations let advertisers dictate what we get to see.
I love Paul James too!!
Paul James is my FAVORITE gardening goofball 🤗🤗🤣🤣
My public library has a seed library now, where people donate and can take seeds for free. Seed librarys are a great way to exchange seeds.

Great video. Your New friend is here. Stay connected and stay blessed.
Good tips and a nice looking garden!
Thank you for another awesome episode. Great tips as always!
Thanks for the great info! What about the weed seed in the grass clippings and the leaves too?
no issues with weed seeds in leaves and the grass is cut before it goes to seed (ideally).
Of course it goes without saying you don't want to use the clippings from a lawn that has been treated with chemicals.
Awesome info Joe!🌸
Thanks Dennis!
Great show, can you explain the process for making the tomato cages? Especially the size.
Great tips, thank you 🇨🇦
I really enjoyed this 👌🌱 lots of great tips
Thank you
Great info, very useful ideas.
I really enjoy this. I love KCPT IN K.C. for introducing this educational show. I'm glad it's on my phone now.

Thanks for the tip on tomato suckers I will be doing that this spring.
Your videos contain great content! Thank you!
You forgot to put the clamp before you connected the pipe?
👌👌👌👌👌super super
You can use those leftover leaf bags you collected like you would use weed barriers around your plants.
💖💖💖🙏🤗
Nice tips keep it up
Just mow the leaves on your grass and throw out that noise polluting leaf blower!
