    Gosh, this just brought happy tears to my eyes - such a kindred spirit. My gardens are my happy place, and you’re right, there’s nothing better than that tired feeling at the end of the day after working outdoors communing with nature (except, oh please, why do I have to be so allergic to mosquitoes?). Spring has just sprung, and I’m outside every chance I get, and when it rains (like today), I tweak my garden plans, inventory my seedlings, and watch videos like this. ❤. Thank you! From a long-time listener of your podcast.

    I think this is my favorite episode. A garden like that is a dream to me. I wish I could keep mine that organized and clean. I'm going to start this year with one raised bed like that a year and see if I can keep up with it. I'll add one more each year and see if it's easier to handle. Great show Joe thanks for sharing

    Amezing garden!!
    It's amazing what your friend has done in such a small space.
    There is nothing like wakeup and gaze at your garden, while listening to nature, and admire your hard work at the end of the day.

    Everyone I know that planted basil this year had bountiful crops. I can’t give it away. How did those 72 plants work for you?😂😂😂
    I am anxious to hear how the tomatoes in straw bales produced compared to the ones in raised beds.
    Thanks. As always, an excellent show.

    What a great episode, Joe! It’s always a joy to see you and your programs, and how wonderful to follow you through your day.
    Something I’ve been meaning to throw out there: you often ask your followers for ideas, or things we’d like to learn about. Well, I’d love to see something (show or podcast) about the plants/seeds these days that have been treated with systemic pesticides. I’m raising honeybees now and am worried that the plants I buy early in the season may be harmful to them and other beneficials. I remember a few years back the big box stores had tags referencing this but I haven’t seen anything on tags for some time now, but the few Japanese beetles that I found on my plants this year and last, were all dead.

    I have been gardening and have compost bins for years. I think one ingredient to the compost bin should have minimal use is grass clippings. The reason is simple, your lawn should be an extension from your garden. My opinion is you should mulch you grass clippings every time you mow so you put back nutrients to your lawn thus you fertilize less .There are so many other ingredients for compost for your garden. Help nature out by fertilizing less!

    Loved the episode, and happy Amy was able to sell her tomato plants without the market being open! Please confirm the spelling for the lettuce you picked at the end of the episode. You know I live close by, but I've never had success with 'head' lettuce. Thanks and keep on growing and teaching! btw, love the rooster. Is it Louis II?

      Do you direct sow your salanova?

    • @martykerns3802
      @martykerns3802 4 роки тому

      It’s better to start indoors so as to control germination temperature, water, and nutrients. Although technically it’s possible to direct sow, this is likely the most popular lettuce amongst growers who sell at farmers markets. I expect that only a few of them direct sow.

    You've made quite the investment in the structures, raised beds etc. It looks amazing. For me though, in retirement, I have to use what I can get my hands on at a most economical way. I picked up free wood, hammered it in to raise up the sides of my "no dig" so that I can add more to raise the soil level ( erosion did the area in years ago). So my problem is a lack of all day Sun, the no dig gets a tad more than four hours. So what do you suggest to grow that does not absolutely need full Sun? It's so troubling, I have gotten suggestions. I'm even mulling over removing some trees and shrubs that line up property, to let in more Sun. I have to figure that one out. But I do need to plant in order to eat well. Food costs too much to not make the effort.
    I love your garden plan but I need some more practical suggestions or references to ponder.
