  • Shell Cordovan care. I get a lot of questions about how to best take care of shell Cordovan shoes. Here’s a simple routine to care for normal scuffs and scratches. If you don’t have an ebony stick or deer bone, a stainless steel spoon will do just as good if a job!

Already a noticeable patina on this shell, even after having them for a short time. That whiskey looks great.

Shell kind of reminds me of stealth suede with a bunch of product/oils built into its tannage, that some agitatation can bring back, which then can eliminate any observable scuff unless it's a gouge

nothing wrong with putting in venetian cream and just getting it done with quickly, extra nourishment is never a problem from that as it's not really a pure conditioner

Yeah I don’t think it’s a binary outcome of good for the leather or it’s harmful for the leather. In my experience some products are actually affecting the leather more, some less, and there’s varying degrees of how it’s being effected. All of that within the context of is it furthering whatever your goal of shoe care is, or just kind of going through the motions without actually providing longevity in the leather

Any idea on how to fix sharp scratches on cordovan ? Scuffs are faily simple but for deeper scratches brushing does not seem to do much.

Did you use any product when you got to the Ebony Stick? Or, did you just use the ebony (or sleeking bone/spoon, etc)? It looks like there is product there (I see some circular swirls like product). Thanks!

You can, but I didn’t and usually don’t. It’s the oils from the shell and the wood that is the cloudy swirls you see.
