Regardless of how the boots were worn, pretty insane that you were able to just rip the outsole off by hand after 6 months. I would be unhappy if I could do that on a pair of $200 boots after a year of wear.
I know there is some hate here for the Alden boots, but personally I have worn the same two pairs to work (mostly office and warehouse work) every day for two years and they are holding up great. Every 6 months or so I use Venetian cream and that’s it. Maybe a brush every two weeks. At this rate I won’t need to ever buy another pair of boots/shoes for work. Just my experience.
It’s not that they will fall apart in two weeks, it’s that that same or better level of durability and comfort you’re speaking of is typical for a 200 dollar pair of boots. No one is saying they are sheets of paper, but they are not as durable for the price and the legend they carry
@@kart182 The people on this channel. I swear you all just don't get it. @@kart182 The people on this channel have traditionally been comparing them to Whites and Nicks(because of the price point), something most people who buy them don't want them to be. I'd agree they're expensive to overpriced, but they're also made in the US. There are higher quality dressy boots for cheaper, sure, but most are not made in the US. not bad! but 7:05: don't hammer soles in mid air. it doesn't really do more than just pressing them on with your hand. if you don't have a shoe anvil, hammer them on your lap with the shoetree inside while sitting down.
These Alden’s look to be overpriced crap, but can we all just take a moment to talk about the deer bone thing? We deserve a deep dive on the science behind this.
I worked in a warehouse for 6 months wearing an early pair (2005) of Asian made Dr Martens and they were still in great shape when I sold them a year later.
Did you ever dust off the boots or use shoe trees? Other than the “commando” soles, which always suck, your boots just looked dirty and poorly maintained.
I’ve got a pair of whites smokejumpers after a couple fire seasons. I’d be happy to send them over for you to rebuild them. Might be a fun challenge. Message me back if you are interested!
OR... or, just send them to Steve at Bedos in Virginia and have him lay down a new footbed, midsole, sole and 360 goodyear welt. Let's just make this easy, right?
Should've Burnished the leather midsole, it's a $900 pair of boots for god sakes leaving the edge rough while the rest of the boot shines looks like crap.

Side by side videos on comparing the half cut with the popular boots , that would be a great showdown.
When you said that you’d use basic tools, I really expected you break out a 1940’s stitching machine, a hydraulic press, and something Festool branded just as a troll job.
Im so tired of people defending Alden. Even if you’re a sucker and don’t care if you get fiberboard in the soles and heel and a split leather insole, they still have horrible qc. You literally cannot defend that. They evidence has been shown.

I said it on the review of these boots (as well as many others) but bears repeating: at this price point, Alden should be ashamed at their build and materials quality when their boots are in this state in six month of normal wear. If they were being abused, sure...but give me a break. I'd rather buy a pair of Red Wings Iron Rangers; at least I know the quality isn't quite there but it'd be much easier on the wallet. Noting like getting loopy from contact cement or a kaddywhompus job regluing a sole....
I'm watching another video about boot glue or something. I guess the nice thing about cheaper boots is they are more disposable if they become a problem?
Rose Anvil got paid by Grant Stone, even though the owner of Grant Stone praised Alden in an interview. He said his designs were shitty and ugly compared to Alden.
Maybe this is an indication of why it is so difficult to buy decent boots that don't fall apart. When there's a world full of wankers who will spend four figures on garbage why bother doing it right? I want to see you design-build a durable boot that can be manufactured and sold for under $200. You know, something for the people who are actually doing the work.
I used to wear work boots for about a decade. If you want it made in America $200 is impossible. Red Wing's work line is all made overseas- signed someone who wore their steeltoe line for ages.
Such overpriced crap these are. I wonder if they lowered the quality intentionally after their CFO embezzled millions from them about a decade ago, or if they were just always built like crap this.
I would agree if it were another review/overview video of this pair, but I'd argue that a resole and some general care for them in their beat up state makes for iterative content. There's probably not much more content that can be squeezed out of them at this point, though
