I've been giddy with excitement waiting to release this one! The Matchbox Škoda 130LR was only produced post-Lesney by Universal Toys for two years, and was only available outside of the US and Canada in the 'Rest of World' lineup. As such, it is a fairly rare model. This one though came to me in an incredible state of disrepair. The paint had almost entirely been removed by gouging it off the body, while the plastics had been coloured in with marker pens. The rear window had tape over it that was keeping it intact. Once opened, there was a sea of rust engulfing the axles and suspension spring. It really was a major upheaval to get this odd model back to original condition, but that was helped by some excellent decals.
The only Škoda in the Matchbox range certainly was a great choice, being the Group B rally version in its factory works team livery. It is definitely one of my all-time favourites, and even more so now I've restored this one!

it's not only matchbox' only casting of a Skoda ever, it's the only one ever made of a 130 in this scale. there were others, but in larger scales, and many were plastic. so this thing is a rarity, as well as the FIAT 131 rallye. there should be a lot more actual rallye team decorations out there. I think two german teams drive one, and of course polish and czech teams love them as well.
anyway, great work! many would have discarded this casting, and it really saw a lot of abuse. especially the baseplate... I didn't know that plastic would "yellow", too, and thus turn green... XD
Jason, I can hardly believe that's the same car.... Really fantastic job bringing this one back from the nearly dead.

That resto turned out wonderful. You're right, we never saw that casting here in Canada. The real cars were never that popular here either. The use of salt on our roads in winter, turned the Skodas into rust buckets within the first couple of years. Earning the nickname for the car "The Scrotum".

Hi Jason, lovely Job. I had a Skoda Estelle 120 in Olive green in the early 90's and I have been a Skoda driver ever since then so this was a journey into my memory banks :-) Everyone used to think they were cheap and nasty, yes they were not the latest tech of the day but it was a great reliable and cheap runaround for comuting to work, and would do motorway speeds without a problem. Love to see the other returned to the Family saloon that it was based on.

I test-drove one of these cars back in the day. They were the butt of plenty jokes but their rally pedigree spoke for itself.😁

Great model, and one that is hard to come by, and quite expensive in mint condition. I had one when I was a kid when it was first introduced, but it was lost to time. I bought another a year or so ago...and I paid a mint for a mint one LOL.

I bought that in 1988 in sweden, and i still have it in its original package.
This looks fantastic! My family has owned three (soon to be 4) škodas and they are brilliant cars. I think you should convert the other 130 into a road going family car.

This is awesome. Loved it too. The decals specially bring out all the fantastic look of this boxy car. A small query. You stuck up the broken windshield part with Gorilla glue. I believe that's superglue so didn't that fog up the windshield? Cheers from India
Thank you. The Gorilla glue gel I use tends to not go cloudy. I highly recommend it!

I need to get some of these to make some classic VB cop cars and of course civilian versions.
I'll attempt to recreate some of my comments again. Either something went wrong technologically wise, or
my son on the Autism Spectrum did something that posted my comments for this video to a completely different video. I only noticed the mistake when that producer responded to comments intended for you. I think that this was the most damaged casting restored I've seen that hadn't been in some form crushed! I'm from/in the U.S.A. and while I know MB, I don't think I've ever heard of Skoda! I also don't think I've ever seen this MB car before, and I agree it's a beauty! My vote for your 3rd car is to...do it again! The twist I suggest is to really recreate a replica of the actual car. I don't really know your budget, amount of equipment or supplies, etc but why not totally recreate that gorgeous actual livery instead of the mass produced homage livery? As much as I love the 8 dot wheel (Thanks for demonstrating your restoration technique!) if a wheel swap is in order to recreate the car, never mind the bullocks or purists, do it! You did the best you could have done with the original "glass", but either a reproduction part or a resin recast of your original would have been necessary to match the standard of the rest of your work. There's a Polish diecast artist, Paul/Pavel (Paul Restore) who did a great video on recasting glass pieces in clear resin if you haven't seen it. Thanks for all you do entertaining and educating me. These are the same spec as the sort I’ve bought in bulk in the past, M2 3mm laptop screws. Best I’ve used so far
