Mahindra has to keep the payload that low on paper to stay under the required weight limit (i think it is 3750 pounds GVWR max, not sure) to be classified and sold as a SxS/UTV. It's a gov't thing, not Mahindra. I carry a1000 pounds in mine all the time.

Your correct about the 3750lb GVWR. Thought I think it’s dealers who call it a SXS or UTV and Mahindra calls it farm equipment. Mandates also require it to be 1000cc or less to be a SXS/UTV.

Manufacturers didn’t want to spend the R&D money to get larger sizes when technology could get more power from turbos and superchargers. Rotor can carry a much higher load than advertised. It can easily be converted to be made road legal but they only sell non-road legal Roxors. It can easily be tuned to develop a lot more power and road speed, but it is sold detuned? Why? To meet the requirements for low tax import. Mahendra imports a detuned and de-specced vehicle, and allows American mechanics and suppliers to tune and re-spec it to the American customer's requirements. Roxor supports a whole infrastructure of small American businesses around it.

Automakers say all kind of stuff to pass the legal requirements. A great example is the gentlemen’s agreement between the Japanese car manufacturers. The key is to underpromise and over deliver. Mahindra is a master at that. In India, vehicles are costly and most families can only afford one. Hence, the machine needs to be reliable, cheap to own and fix. Indian automobile industry is super competitive. Brands like Toyota have a hard time selling just because the indigenous manufacturers are that good.

@@BrownAbrahamic112 Toyota is allowed to pay the same taxes (in terms of percentages over the pre-tax selling price of their cars) as Mahindra for Toyota car models that are manufactured in India. Toyota has a sprawling factory named, "Toyota Kirloskar Motor" (89% owned by Toyota) spread over 850 acres in a place named "Bidadi" in the southern state of Karnataka in India since the year 1997 and that factory currently manufactures Toyota models like Innova, Fortuner, Glanza, Urban Cruiser, Hilux, Legender, Camry etc with current production capacity of 320,000 vehicles per annum and sales tax on these models sold in India is the same as Mahindra cars sold in India. So it would be downright ignorance to claim that Mahindra does not compete with the likes of Toyota on a level playing field of the same sales tax levied on their respective vehicles manufactured in India. It is the high end expensive models that Toyota (or some other non-Indian multinatuonal automobike comoany) may not find to be financially viable to manufacture in India (given their high prices causing less sales in the price sensitive market of mostly lower middle class buyers in Infia) and instead choose to impose that attract heavy import tax when shipping to India but anyway thise models are in a different price segment commanding a small niche market of their own their own among India's super rich and high net worth people (very small percentage of India's total population) and not really pose themselves as competitor to Mahindra (or Tata for that matter) that aim for the mass market of lower middle class clients. The models Toyota make in India are far less expensive than their imported high end CBU luxurious vehicles and also do not pack in high horsepower monstrous gas guzzling powerpacks, leather and wood finishes but do fairly pack in up to date safety features and sophisticated automation features as well as amenities features but both Indian companies, namely Mahindra and Tata compete with them on those fronts which is how they have survived this long.
Check out this review of Mahindra XUV700 the base variant of which currently costs less than USD 16000 (as of December 2022) in India that includes the sales tax :
      ua-cam.com/video/4s-piKqiKGM/v-deo.html
Tell me which Toyota SUV model with better or atleast similar features will be competitive with this Mahindra model at that pricepoint even if all the taxes to be levied on that Toyota model, including even the sales tax that is levied on the mahindra model in India, is revoked.

    • @knightatdawndonbynight8432
      @knightatdawndonbynight8432 2 роки тому +2

@@BrownAbrahamic112 The point being made is that Toyota models sold in India, if manufactured in India, do not attract high import tariff otherwise imposed on CBUs (import tariff on CBU is much higher than on CKDs or SKDs). Regardless of CKD or SKD for Fortuner, Bidadi factory has press shop, weld shop and paint shop- not just assembly shop. What do you think press shop is for? And you missed the point. Toyota Fortuner base variant with sales tax is worth USD ~40.000 in India while even if the US does not impose heavy import tariff on auto components or on CBUs, the base variant of Fortuner still costs USD ~50.000 in the US. How do you think Toyota vehicles of priceranges close to Fortuner will be competitive with something like Mahindra XUV700 that is offered in a different price segment altigether? It is not like even if India drops import tariff on CBUs (or even CKDs or SkDs) of Toyouta Fortuner, Toyota Fortuner will become as affordable as Mahindra XUV700. Forget India; let us consider three important developing economies from three continents- Toyota Fortuner base variant costs USD 32000 in Indonesia and Brazil and USD 36000 in South Africa. How is then Toyota Fortuner competitive with a car that comes in less than half its pricerange? And Mahindra does import some auto components (infotainment and control electronics and certain electromechanical parts) for which it has pay as much import tariff as any other automotive company importing automotive components. Do your arithmetic.

I am fairly certain ( 99.9%) the payload is unrated purposely to meet some government restrictions. Such as to keep it from being designated a “ truck” instead of a UTV. Taxes and tariffs and safety requirements would be drastically different.
Just as light duty trucks go up in registration costs by their capacity, ie; 1/2 , 3/4, 1 ton etc. tags get more expensive as capacity goes up. Since this “ looks” like a jeep, keeping the capacity low would keep it as a UTV.
Under rating is used all the time. Boat motors are under rated as to HP in the smaller motors as some lakes have HP limits.
Some say under 10HP, so the makers dub them 9.9, although some are easily way more powerful.
“It’s all in the telling” as they say. Some makers way OVER rate things too, for obvious reasons.

The reason they rate it for 349 lbs is because there is no cab protection from the payload in the bed. There is nothing separating the load from crashing into the passengers if you have a front collision or roll it over something like that.. So it really boils down to a safety issue. The rating gets through the red tape of govt safety regulations and manufacturers liability.

It has a leaf suspension in the rear, so you can go a lot more than this and it will ride better when there is more load. I also don't like the width of the tires. Where I live the wide tires on a light vehicle will get you stuck every time you take it in deep snow. Otherwise I suppose it's a great little 4x4.

The problem isn't in the suspension, but the seats. There's no barrier between the seats and the load in the bed, so if you have to hard brake and that load slides forward, it will snap the seats and throw you through the windshield. That's why the weight rating is so low.

The 349 payload limit is an number imposed by the EPA cause for the Roxor to be sold as a UTV in the class it is, I believe it can not exceed 3750 pounds total. With the Roxor being the weight it is, plus an operator, it doesn’t leave much left for payload to stay under the limit to be sold in the class it is as a SxS. That’s why the payload is so low. (I think I have that right)

on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So, what’s your problem?
If I purchase a 10 oz. drink and they give 16 oz. without being charged for more what’s wrong with that?
On the flip side, regardless of whether the vehicle can actually carry more, don’t disregard the fact that if anything occurs because you’re carrying more than specified, that certain warranty issues may not be granted.
Just because you don’t see a difference, it does not mean that stresses aren’t applied elsewhere that could fail (like bolts, pins, bushings, etc.). Unless you’re an engineer and know the quality of everything that’s been installed to produce it, pushing the boundaries are entirely at your discretion and you may end up regretting it in the end and could cost you more out of your own pocket than what you bargained for.
Edit (Added): I seen another person comment on here about having one for 10 years and has not had problems either. That is not necessarily applicable.
Just as vehicles (or other things) have changed over the years, different products will change in materials because of production costs.
Ratings at one period of time vs later on for something does not guarantee that they are or will be the same.
You should be giving people these types of warnings in your videos and you could be held liable for not warning people because you didn’t give due diligence. Your video title says they lied, you don’t warn about long term use and you didn’t seem to test for it either and so you have implied that all is and will likely be well. Your statement to the video even says you’ll prove it.
For your sake, I hope you smarten up before it bites you in the @ss.
