My ex-boyfriend couldn't stand them. He thought she sang like she was yodeling. He didn't like Dolores O'Riordan either. When I told him I liked Siouxsie Sioux, he scoffed that she seemed like someone who didn't go to the toilet. I eventually got him to like her. I mean, this was a guy who listened to They Might Be Giants and Weezer with his friends.
This is a masterpiece, made more effective by the fact that most of their songs are indecipherable. And here we are with the most insightful and straightforward stuff I’ve ever heard in a song about relationships
Intimacy is when we're in the same place At the same time Dealing honestly with how we feel, And who we really are That's what grown-ups do That is mature thinking
"I just have to know how to be in the process Of creating things in a better way And it hurts but it's a lie that I can't handle it I still have a world of me-ness to fulfill I still have a life, and it's a rich one even with mourning Even with grief and sadness I still care about this planet I am still connected to nature and to my dreams for myself"
I think back to 1985 or 1986 when I found the Pink Opaque at a record store and bought it because the cover so intrigued me...and I fell in love with the Cocteau Twins and in particular Liz's unearthly voices. That feeling never ever fades..I just appreciate her more and more as the years go by...
i miss pretty much everything before 1990 compared to what there is now. i pity the kids these days with the shite they seem happy listening to, they have no idea at all what they have missed
This song is pure beauty, and the lyrics flawless... that's exactly the process of dealing with the loneliness when you realize you don't need anyone else to hold on to but the ones that are already there for you.
Liz Fraser is the best singer in the world. I can imagine her in the 1700's, singing for royalty. One of those people that folks would travel hundreds of miles to see sing.
This is so beautiful....so timeless....Frazier is the most expressive , most provacative vocalist i've ever heard....in my humble estimation...amongst modern contemporary vocalists, she has no peer. She makes me feel everytime i hear. Robin Guthrie an utter genius for crafting and orchestrating this sound as well. Then as now , he is a hero for his fearlessness.
LOVE THIS SONG! and one of the few where liz is singing words and not glossolalia. The best band in the worlld in my opinion and i have been a fan for about 25 years. saw them twice in new orleans and both times was floored that rhey actually sund as good or better live. liz shines in the live versions where she works her voice harder with no tracking. All true artists!
Love love love.. her Thanks, Massive Attack Thanks, Hope Sandoval Thanks, Bert Jansch R.I.P. You lead me to again where the waters run deep... Cheers from Minneapolis, Jon
I loved it. Such a beautiful voice makes me believe that there is a paradise somewhere. Maybe sometimes we touched or saw it but only later we were able to realize it. Thanks a lot for posting
well what can i say an absolute masterpiece ,shes singing like an angel thanks for posting it really is wonderfull ,the best band of all time without a shadow of doubt.
Simply one of the greatest bands ever.. this is sung so angelic that only Robin can do. Their sound is like no other and if there is a heaven Cocteau Twins will be up there singing with the saints.
This isn't a break up song Is finishing an old relationship that can work Learning the stars and the alignment Of your true soul mate That's all And even if it doesent work out you still have ME
Me tengo a mi misma Aún me tengo a mí.
Whether because of the word "family" and what that reminds us of, or just her vocal performance, I always hear "internal struggle" in the song's coda Very "I must go on/I can't go on/I go on".
There is no doubt in my mind that Elizabeth Fraser has, in all of human history, past, present or future, the loveliest voice.
How does any human being not love this woman, this band?
My ex-boyfriend couldn't stand them. He thought she sang like she was yodeling. He didn't like Dolores O'Riordan either. As endgames go, this is the bravest song she ever wrote and sung.... heartbreaking.
she has the most beautiful voice of all time
"I just have to know how to be in the process
Of creating things in a better way

i love this band. i saw them in the late 80's, LA. favorite cocteau twins album: Victoria Land, with Treasure a close second.
I love the way the instruments all fade away to leave only Liz's voice and the beat.

Shivering and crying, and I'm not quietly the kind of guy that cries just like that !
we were very lucky to have been around for the music part. now its just television.
Excellent version
Has a whiff of Charles Aznavour's She in the melody.
