If anything....its not usually due to the teachers, they probably need a makeover in administration. Having an effective leadership team in the principal, vp, or any behavior/instructional coaches makes or breaks the school to a larger degree!
Working in a Title 1 school is the "most challenging." Teachers are held 100% accountable. I always bring up no parental involvement during my data chats. Administrator told me, "that's not a reason for my students not being proficient." Our school has not had a PTA, going on 7 years now. 🙄🤷🤦
I got the same response when I mentioned this years ago. Funnily enough, he said we could not consider or point to factors outside of school as “excuses” but in the second breath he started in on all the things he he believed teachers and the school should provide because they weren’t getting them at home.
So they clearly are GASLIGHTING you and I am sad because without parents being apart of their childrens education they will always be behind. Good luck but if I were you I'd think about my options away from public school because the government has a plan to stop educating our children. It started with all the stupid tests back the 90s
I believe the opposite: parental / community positivity, support, and involvement have EVERYTHING to do with student outcomes. Teachers shouldn't be expected to work miracles!!
As HISD graduate I was sadden but not surprised. Worse yet as a retired teacher I know TEA will be worse. How about making all those administrators and fired school board members into classroom teachers. Smaller class sizes instead wasting more money on the latest program educational consultants sells as miracle fix.
No matter who the TEA gets to run the school or teach in the school, the students are going to be the same. So the real, unasked and NEVER answered questions? How is the students’ behavior management system going to change? Will students and their parents be held accountable for outrageous, disruptive behavior? If not, well… things will NOT improve.
Wow, this is so sad to me because I grew up in and graduated from HISD schools, I am a teacher today because of some amazing teachers I had. Schools don't fail because teachers don't teach. The break down is in the learning process. Students believe that if they don't want to learn something then they don't have to learn it. And no one, not even their parents is able to fix it.
@@cbanks1980 are you a teacher, behavior is a major reason scores across the country are down. Charter schools work because they can remove low effort and poor behavior students. Public schools have to try and find a way to work through the distractions of about 10 percent of the kids that demand 90% of the teachers attention. I have some really good kids that want to learn, but they are having that time stolen by a small percentage of students that are out of control and there seems to be no apatite to remove them. I personally believe that converting some charter schools to special schools for kids that need mentors, counseling services and more structure would free up teachers to teach the other 90% of students that have the potential to grow and learn in a safer less stressful environment.
My daughter is a teacher in automotive class the kids keep acting up and wasting time she failed more then have the class for thee semester. Then the parents wants to come and find out what’s going on but ignores the calls. She said to the principal now they want to act like care about their kids if they fail and have to repeat the class or get kick for not mandating they grades. It means that’s an extra year they living in their house😂😂😂.
Oh and let's talk about the rubber ruler of standardized test scores. One year 23 correct answers is passing , the next year it's 27. We got lectured in test training faculty meetings about how it was harder to pass one year versus another. You work your heart with the lowest of the low and can’t get "merit pay" while non Title 1 schools get it for having easier classes to teach.
Crazy part about it is the most recent grade for Wheatley was passing....so even though they've progressed why take it over unless there are OTHER reasons?
I hit my daughter she called the San Antonio police and he told her you living well and if you don't like it finish school and get out of her house. "HAVE A NICE NIGHT" NO MORE PROBLEMS 😅😅😅😅
Right, a makeover. If people do not see this is political, then you need to go back and do some homework. Just the start of urban district takeovers for redrawing boundaries and losing seats when schools close and people move. New Development will start, and here we go all over again.
How many kids who can't speak English are being integrated into the test scores??? Or, how many fatherless homes are being included? Teachers don't start the educational process (parents do!!). We just build on it! I love you though, Eddie B. You give me solace.
was wondering what you were going to say... Fine job. You weren't even a whuss standing on the fence, actually took a side. Right on for your stance. hugs sweetie brother education man
I am not a teacher but I see how the Texas school system is failing the children, I live in Beaumont, Tx and its just awful here, I wouldn't send one of my dogs fleas to school in BISD.
A makeover is right; not a takeover. And, for the record, Wheatley H.S. most recently DID receive a passing T.E.A. rating. Unfortunately, it was too late 😔
Here’s a clue, Start teaching Subject, cut out the unproductive half days, real consequences, post, all outlines and descriptions of what will be taught in the classroom, lesson plans posted online for parents, it is the responsibility of the parent to be involved with their child’s teaching, consequences for children’s miss behavior, cell phones, not allowed in the classroom, and should be collected in the homeroom, and returned at the end of the day. If a student does not turn their phone into homeroom, they must be held accountable for that behavior. A standard test can be given in the spring to demonstrate where that child is in their learning absolutely no teaching as to how to take a test.
They need to support passionate stern teachers who can teach for real and get results, not vain puppet educators who can only follow the script/look/sound the part who NO results with helping kids to truly overcome
they "close" the failing schools as if the buildings are the problem, which increases the problem. The problem is too many kids per classroom, no parental involvement, too much micromanagement by administrators who only have to have less than 5 years teaching experience before being an admin. The folks in TEA don't have to have any teaching experience. A PhD study is NOT experience! They NEVER want input from real classroom teachers.
These takeovers are so ineffective. They put more work on teachers that are already overworked and underpaid.
If anything....its not usually due to the teachers, they probably need a makeover in administration. Having an effective leadership team in the principal, vp, or any behavior/instructional coaches makes or breaks the school to a larger degree!

♾️% 😞 Harold Dutton sold his community out when he brought HB1842 into being 🤬🤬🤬

In NC the so called failing schools correlate perfectly with high poverty rates.
As HISD graduate I was sadden but not surprised. Worse yet as a retired teacher I know TEA will be worse. Just sent this video to my mother who used to work at Wheatley and all she said was 'truth'. This is NOT the solution to this problem.
I graduated from Wheatley in 1984. They have been trying to close the schools in the poor neighborhoods for years.😢
I don’t teach in Texas, but I felt this
No matter who the TEA gets to run the school or teach in the school, the students are going to be the same. So the real, unasked and NEVER answered questions? How is the students’ behavior management system going to change? Will students and their parents be held accountable for outrageous, disruptive behavior? If not, well… things will NOT improve.

Dying laughing at the "Ummm....who is he?"
Makeover - not takeover

Much love 😂🤣😂✊🏿✊🏿
They need to bring back PTA and makeover the public school system.
Also didn't the campuses improve? The school that got and F five years.... didn't it improve to a C. Still not great, but it's a start right?
It did. HISD got a B as a whole which makes you wonder.

So true, this is a very bad idea
Yes a makeover, not a takeover
#FACTS ..... They need a makeover not a takeover.
@Eddiebcomedy Your videos and commentary are freakin genius level! Keep it up and I'll keep watching....😁😂😅
Crazy part about it is the most recent grade for Wheatley was passing....so even though they've progressed why take it over unless there are OTHER reasons?
Politics 100%
That man in the video is Representative Harold Dutton and grad of Wheatley who created the amendment for the TEA takeover.

Amen, a makeover not a takeover
The truth is those schools already raised their ratings and then they fired all the teachers, admin, and board responsible for the success. 👏🏽
I felt the 11:59 PM…

What about the kids? “Makeover not Takeover”
