Especially watching him live. Cant get more metal than gary holt
incredible guitarist! Him and Rick were so fucking under rated in the 80's. All you could hear was Dave Mustaine this and Kirk Hamster that... blahblah. Gary was way ahead of his time, his phrasing, speed: masterclass! and above all , he's an incredible songwriter. Check out his riffs on Fabulous Disaster, Pleasures of the flesh, Impact,..
@@bjoern_thun_dersteel I have his phone number in my cell !! Crazy. And he's the fuckkng coolest dude ever and just did some tracks on the exodus album !! I'm in Lake county, California.
Nick Wallace Well, at least he's not limiting himself to pentatonics (so maybe King might actually learn something from this after all). But yeah, Holt is a good rythm guitarist and decent songwriter (for Thrash Metal. Just don't let him write the lyrics. His lyrics in Exodus gave me an aneurysm), but his lead playing isn't exactly the most inventive or interesting out there. And let's be honest, he abuses the wah pedal just as much as Kirk Hammett. Hey, it's cool, it's Thrash Metal after all. Not a genre generally known for being technically demanding...
+Jimmy Hellfire Lmfao yeah. This is all in D standard tuning. Can't tell if he is joking and just has a super dry sense of humour or it's just a habit. How's about that sea ship note...... god yes.
It is actually an A note with heavy panned and delay effects. It is indeed a joke as he says I don't mean to yank your chain. Gary has an incredible sense of humor.
Nah, it's a G. Delay and panning don't pitch down the sound by a whole tone. He probably calls it an A out of habit, because he's playing the 5th open string, which in standard tuning is an A. His guitar is tuned down a whole tone, turning the A to a G.
Jimmy Hellfire I stand corrected. I am downtuned and am just used to hearing it that way. Yeah, it is the open a string position but tuned down. Don't hear much metal in standard tuning anymore.
As did we, but you know, look at who the big 4 are, Anthrax should Not be on that list...I like them, but their albums are hit and miss with songs, Exodus? From Bonded to Force of Habit, solid right through, and Schizophrenia- Chaos AD, yet again.....

Took this video to heart. I use the same chug technique that he does. Same tone. Same style. Gary, Kirk, and Kerry are the greatest thrash guitarists of all time
what he's doing is fairly simple and repetitive from a harmonic standpoint. It's playing it fast, clean, and making is sound bad ass that's the hard part.
Holt, like most metal players uses a lot of repeating patterns. Once you recognize the patterns it takes a lot of the mystery out of it.
