Well each to their own. I am not into Metal at all, used to listen to EDM and hiphop only for all my life. But this band lead me to like the sound of electric guitars, I bought my first one because of them - and I really enjoy their goofiness, it makes it much more approachable for me as a non-metal-guy.
Was gonna suggest maybe you'd enjoy them live because they're one of those bands who sound greater live and have amazing crowd interaction. But then I remembered they wear costumes and wigs from their music videos whilst performing. So maybe not😂
They were scheduled for one of the smaller stages at Download last year. Was hilarious seeing how many people were trying to get in
8:00 but maybe the purpose of this music video is not to promote the music but to be part of the Gesamtkunstwerk (piece of all arts together).
It cites and exaggerates German 80s popculture (like „Modern Talking“). And the visuals are a hilariously funny attribute to that time.
I don’t try to make you laugh by explaining a joke to you. I’m just explaining why we think it’s funny.
To each their own. I understand your reasons, though. This is the one that introduced me to them and still one of my favorites.
EC is one of my favourite bands. That said, they're not for everyone, and living in an echo chamber is boring.
As someone who likes both electronica and metal, I can’t get enough of these guys, but I can understand how they might turn some people off. This video though is really what put them on the map for the international audience. It’s probably their most absurd video, along with “Pump It” and “We Got the Moves”. The videos for “Tekkno Train”, “Spaceman”, and “Every Time We Touch” are still fun and goofy, but not nearly as over the top ridiculous. “Parasite” and “Hate/Love” are songs that are probably more up your alley since their more rock with electronic elements rather than electronic with rock elements and their respective music videos are much more straightforward - “Parasite” is literally just concert footage.
As for the purpose of music videos, it’s true that are made to promote the songs and bands, but especially today in the world of the internet, videos themselves play a bigger role than just marketing the music. They also help build the parasocial relationships that we have with people we follow on the internet. Electric Callboy doesn’t just have music videos up, but also vlogs, behind the scenes, and even reactions to reactors reacting to their music. This video got them the international audience they have today, so it certainly did it’s job marketing the band though.
I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. This was the song and video that introduced Nico as their new clean vocalist and was released during the whole Covid thing. Yes it’s over the top silly, but it’s meant to be. If you liked Mindreader though, you’ll probably like their song Parasite. With that song you’ll also be more comfortable with the music video because it uses footage from one of their live shows and isn’t one of their silly songs.

I think you should do a reaction video about the collab of Electric Callboy and Babymetal in "Ratatata" 🙂 Edit: The video has a similar style to the music clips from EC you have already watched, but BM fit kinda perfect into it, it's just funny (as the ladies would say: it's ブ·チ·ア·ガ·レ buchiagaru)
I love these guys. May not be everyone's cup of tea but they their videos are supposed to out there.
THe song samples a "Scooter" song, a german electronic band from the late '90 and early '00. Even copies the title of one of their songs 😆
So it's obvious that it would appeal more to people who is more attracted to it!

As a Callboy fan I have no problem with your scoring and review 😉It's not their favourite song for me, has it ups and downs. Nevertheless, this was their initial song with their new "clean vocals" singer, Nico - and actually it was their introduction into new era, from being a hardly known to anyone to becoming huge stars. It was pandemic, people were upset with everything and they introduces some fun into this miserable world. I really appreciate that and really enjoy their goofiness, even though it IS over the top 😅
I hope that you will see their official video for "Parasite". Why video? Because it is actually a concert video, just with the audio from the album. I know how much you concentrate on band's stage presence, and this is a perfect opportunity to see it. Also, this is their another serious song, without any goofy stuff.
There is also ano live performance that you might like to see - "We Got the Moves". Check for Live from Denver - in contrast to many fan videos, this one was shot by multiple stage staff on the stage and around and original sound from the mixing table. Will also show you a lot on their stage presence, as well as their music quality.

I'm sorry you're not a fan. This isn't my favorite song of theirs but I really like the heavy parts. I don't know them personally, obviously, but from watching their own tour vlogs and the ones done by Tank the Tech while he's their tour manager, I love these guys. They seem to be really sweet and fun guys. This is their sense of humor. Not everyone has the same sense of humor. These guys are mixing electronic and metal, which is a sound I haven't heard before. I find that I like it. You don't have to. They sell out their tours. They're not my favorite band but I do enjoy them. The lead vocalist you like is Nico and I don't know his last name. I love them. Others love them. You don't have to. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

Hello David, first of all I would like to say that I like your honest reactions. Regarding EC, their music and their videos, I respectfully disagree with you. I love that they are so creative and funny when it comes to turning their songs into videos. For me the videos don't distract from the music, I think they underline it in the best way possible. But I respect your opinion on this, everyone has a different approach to music and artists. I would recommend that you react to a live recording of the band next time. The focus here is definitely on the music and the interaction with the fans. EC's acoustic songs are great too, like "Prism" live. Of course, it won't make the band's style of music more accessible to you, because EC are in the electronic core area anyways. Greets from Germany
They made this song during the lockdowns as a goof to make people laugh.
Its not meant to be massively impressive musically, its ment to make people crack up and go "Wtf did I just watch?".
It was meant to bring a little bit of laughter and positivity in a very dark, dreary time.
Imo, its one of the greatest songs ever made from the persepctive of what its _meant_ to be compared to what it _is._

Tank the Tech (on UA-cam) was their North American tour manager when they were finally able to make it over here and they must have clicked really well because he also went over for a leg of their Europe tour. He said they're probably the best band he's ever worked for; the group is super professional when it comes to putting on the best show for the fans every single time, and nobody has any kind of ego. The great thing about their music is that they sound as good live as they do on recording, so it's not a bunch of over-produced stuff. And it's fun to blast when I'm cleaning my house. 😂
I like 1 song from Electric Callboy: We got the moves. But THAT song is brilliant. Both musically and with the humor. I might just up my patronage and push it to the top😂
And I agree with you that they try to hard with the humor. And something is just Juvenile.
But for me they have that one song that hits me.
Btw Tank The Tech (from youtube) toured as a rodie with EC in Germany, Switzerland and Austria this winter. He has a series of vlogs from that tour. Brilliant. Even so, EL just have 1 song i like. But I like it a LOT.

EC is a band I really enjoy reaction videos of (afaik, they don't mind those, and even do reaction-reaction-videos occasionally), but aren't really something I seek out when I listen to music
