Apologies if this has been mentioned by someone else in the comment section, but for anyone looking to [legitimately] add this excellent game to their collection, you don't necessarily have to pay the outrageously inflated, bloated prices some scalpers on eBay are asking for the Saturn version. If you have a PS2 or original Xbox, consider picking up the Taito Legends 2 collection, instead. Not only does it have Elevator Action Returns, but also several other Taito arcade games that were also available for the Saturn, including Darius Gaiden, Metal Black, and Cleopatra Fortune. The PS2 version even includes G Darius and RayStorm, while the Xbox version has RayForce. Currently on eBay, a complete copy of Taito Legends 2 for the PS2 starts at about $25. That's about 1/10th of the asking price for the Saturn import of Elevator Action Returns. I understand if you're a die-hard Saturn collector who wants to add that version to your collection at some point (and if you are, more power to you!) but for the rest of us that just want to have an affordable copy of the game to play every now and then, the Legends collection fits the bill nicely. I own it for the PS2, myself, and the emulation and gameplay of the various titles in the collection are absolutely dead-on. As someone who's been importing and collecting Saturn games since the late '90s, I can't believe how prices have shot up in the last five years or so on certain games. This is true for many other older game systems as well, but man, collecting for the Japanese Saturn used to be such a cheap date, all things considered. Not anymore!
Actually this game on TL2 isn't emulated properly. When you shoot out the lights, the point values of killed enemies should double, but they stay the same value as when the lights on a section of stage are on. The X-Box version also doesn't have the lights go out when they are shot, since both are based on earlier versions of MAME (which had the same issue).
@@Bloodreign1 Hmmm... fair enough! I've never played the Xbox version, myself, but I definitely enjoy having it on the PS2. Actually popped it back in for a bit after making that first post and had a total blast with EAR. Never noticed the points value being affected by the lights, one way or another, though I suppose that would carry more weight for someone who played these games for a high score. Me, I just play them for fun. I definitely think both Taito Legends collections are an excellent value, and they are still some of the most regularly-played games in my collection to this day. Yes, I know most of the games in the collection could be played on MAME, but for me, having a physical copy on a legit game console that I can just pop in and play anytime is what really seals the deal. I'll take a 99.9% accurate version of Elevator Action Returns over having no version at all!
@@mmmmatchstick You also have to consider Metal Black on TL2, the beam you use after collecting the things that float through the air is also broken on that collection. Once you shoot the beam, you can't refocus it after letting the button go that makes it shoot lightning bolts. And lets not get started on them using the US Bust A Move Again over Puzzle Bobble 2, but in the process breaking the music in the game, because BAMA and PB2 use different music, and BAMA in Taito Legends 2 uses the PB2 music, and it shouldn't. The Japanese Taito Memories collections, while still having some issues, don't have many of the glitches that mar TL2. One really messed up thing on TL 2 is in Darius Gaiden, the fight against Neon Light Illusion. That fight should not slow down the way it does, the framerate goes out the window when going against it. While I do have both Taito Legends for PS2, I also have all 4 Japanese compilations, simply because there are more games, and most work better than the versions on Legends 1 and 2, though Darius Gaiden still has the slowdown issue when going against Neon Light Illusion.
