- In this episode I will restore and repair this extremely yellowed Sega Saturn Vintage console. The console is broken. It doesn't read CD's which is common with these retro consoles due to several reasons.

So I was doing this step by step however BEWARE at 8:23 I used Soapy Water instead of Watery Soap and needless to say the whole project was ruined.
Diluted soap is even worse.
@@Chaos89P You guys forgot to beat the water white as in the recipe.
Soapy Water is not an acceptable Watery Soap substitute, however Soapy Liquid Ice is. 😉

I used room temperature ice. Did I ruin it?

LOL. Funny. But 2040? based on the timeline, we would have a PS7 by then. PS5 is still fresh. I'd guess a PS4.
Haha
!
😂😂😂
That if someone buys one.
I imagine there’s a room in this guys house with around 50 perfectly restored consoles from all eras
All of them hooked up to one TV
If there isn't, I'll be disappointed
I love how he dedicates a few seconds of almost each restoration video to make sure his Ducktor is clean and well.
How nice!
We want a restoration of the controller

The console was so yellowed that it looked like a golden special edition.

I thought it was a gold special edition from the thumbnail. Then I realized what it really was and thought he should just go full speed ahead and turn it into a gold special edition.
Probably could've sold as that, to some sucker.
@@kayonesoft nah man if you look at it for long enough it looks yellowed, not the golden color in my opinion

Man, I'm new to your channel. The last few days I've been watching your content and I find it so calm, peaceful. It actually helps me cope with this, extremely anxious, new reality. Homeoffice, things going so fast... But when I get to see your content I can sit, relax and let time go by without worries. Watching you so meticulously restore these old electronics, in total silence, slowly, gives me some kind of inner peace I can't really describe. Thank you.
Hey dude, that sensation of inner peace and calm is ASMR. Also, ASMR can be just visual so I'm very very sure that's what you feel watching. Because it's the same for me lol. (Also hope you're doing better with the anxiety attacks, having an anxiety disorder myself I know the pain and stress :c )

I will never get tired of watching people preserve gaming machines. Ever. In my opinion, these machines are so important. It isn't just a game console, it was very likely someone's childhood, someone's escape from the real world. Every new gaming generation is a snapshot in time; a functioning, tangible record of technological progress for the era.

Sega Saturn, a underrated 3D console. This is really cool to see!
Sega Saturn was a 2D console that did 3D, that's why.
@@khanv1ct244 And what the people forget is that SEGA is a japanese company. So of course, it was first influenced by its culture and people's behavior. The Saturn was supposed to capitalized on the growing succes of Arcade centers in Japan. Most of the games were 2D so the Saturn was initially planned as mostly a 2D system. 3D came after, because of Sony. It's because it was added to a 2D architecture that the Saturn was difficult to program for 3D games... Let's not forget that we are not talking about today's 3D too... Of course games look amazing on modern systems. mowadays, but go back to the first Playstation games and tell me what you rather play, a primitive 3D Playstation game or a beautiful 2D game on Saturn? Yep, after a war, it's easy to pick up the winner...
(Edit: Okay, 2D console with 3D capabilities. Thanks for the info! But, I'd kindly ask for you guys to stop replying the same thing over and over again. Thanks, and have a great day!)
The controller was made for fighting games which was cool
It's a 2D powerhouse really. When Sega learned of the upcoming PlayStation doing 3D they decided the Saturn had to too

As a SEGA Saturn fan, i have to say 'Thank You!' ♥
I'd love to see a restoration of a Nintendo Gamecube, as I got one myself of which the button to open up the disc reader isn't working properly anymore. Same with one of the controllers of which the right trigger button doesn't work anymore. Maybe with a few pointers I'd be able to repair it myself!

The retrobrightening is always my favorite part!
WOW I had no idea you could even de-yellow old white electronics like this. I thought the yellow fading was permanent. Awesome!
It is permanent. This process just essentially bleaches the very outer surface for the very short term. You don't even need the UV light strips. That's just something youtubers do to make it look like some highly technical process. It's really no different than gargling with hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. The yellowing will return very quickly unless you keep the console completely shielded from light, and even then it will yellow again within a few months at best.
@@Rowgue51 hes explained before that it makes it work quicker. 😐
If he only added it for visuals then it’s real shit looking don’t you think 🙄
@@hudz48
First off you would get the same result with just hydrogen peroxide, but decomposing the hydrogen peroxide does speed up the process significantly.
However UV light is by far the least efficient and slowest method of achieving decomposition. He's already using electricity which is by far the most efficient method of providing the energy needed for decomposition. UV light is an alternative method of providing that energy but an incredibly inefficient and slow method that has no statistically significant impact on the speed of the process when you're already using heat and/or electricity to accomplish decomposition.
It's just something companies add to their kits to make them seem more technical and more impressive; and something youtubers love to show because they think it makes them appear all "sciency". But it's such an irrelevant part of the system that it's almost purely for show.
@@Rowgue51 Nobody wants to know this.

You're free to treat every source of information with the weight you believe it deserves. And if you choose to put more faith in nonsense that's entirely your prerogative.
There is just something about watching these after a hard work day that is relaxing.. More so if there is yellow to take away. 😅 👌 Needless to say I'm excited for this one.

I wish I still had a Sega Saturn to this day because I missed out on a lot of good games for it. I mean, sure, the console didn't have that many Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it had tons of fighting games from Capcom, Sega, SNK, the Mortal Kombat series, Dead or Alive 1 and some other Saturn games that I never heard of. And the superior RAM cartridge that the Saturn had was the Action Replay Plus cartridge, which was a 3-things-in-1 device, meaning that it would allow you perform cheats in your Saturn games, save your Saturn's game data and break the region encoding allowing you play imported games on any Sega Saturn model of your choice, which was awesome and the Saturn was also backwards-compatible with music CDs as well.
