One thought process about why Earth 42 Miles becomes the prowler is maybe due to the fact that, due to there not being a spiderman in the universe anymore, the universe is a lot more darker. This leads to more and more crime and thus Miles and his uncle have to live in this universe riddled with crime. Not sure if prowler Miles is good or bad, but either way, it's how their family learned to survive.
it's probably darker because the 42 spider did not bite that universe's Spider-man. Universe 42 Spider-man probably died just like in Mile's timeline. BUT , since there was no second Spider bite . No one stepped in as a new Spider-man.
Spiderman Across The Spider-verse was actually so damn good, the cameos of all the Spidermen and Spiderwomen when they were trying to catch Miles was so good, and all the parts where Gwen was talking to Mile's parents were so funny, I love the mix of action and comedy so much.
Fun fact Donald glover played uncle Aaron in spider-man homecoming. Mentions Miles birthday party while confronted in the parking lot and also later told Spider-Man that he had a nephew that lived in the neighborhood
I absolutely loved this movie. This was the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy. So great, left us wanting so much more. I enjoyed hearing Ed talk in detail about Spot as a villain and being a blank slate. Also his praise of Lord & Miller. I really want to watch this film again. Easily one of the best Spiderman movies, if not the best so far.
Also for Gwen, when she first came home, her reflection was Spider-Gwen, after she was kicked out and was forced to go home, her reflection was of herself, Gwen. Really good way to visually portray her self-identity and how she feels when she comes home.
I love the line that Miles said after the canon event explanation where he says "So we are suppose to let people die because of some algorithm". The moment he said that, I was like, "THAT'S A GREAT WAY OF SUMMERAIZING IT" because It's the same thing that's happening in the real world with stuff like social media algorithms.
Geniunely, Spiderman Into and Across The Spider-verse are two of my favorite movies of all time! And the soundtrack for this one 🔥🔥🔥 Metro really went off
I liked the score . Kind of wish they would have done what they did with " I .T.S. " where they had different bands / musicians almost for every new version of Spider-man. Like for Gwen they had the song " To the End By Elliphant " , and for the scene where Peni fixes the goober they had he song " Want it here by Xenia Pax "
Hearing yall speak about this movie, one gave me chills several times. I could listen to yall break down movies forever. And two, solidified I'll be rewatching this in theaters at least twice this week.
Man! I haven't done a film breakdown in so long because it doesn't allow me to enjoy the film the first time around. This breakdown was so well done! I am excited to go back and rewatch this film!
Theory time: Miguel greatly misunderstood Miles' affect on the multiverse and is wrong about Miles. Since Spider-verse movies are tied to MCU, there are "incursions" when a person affects/plays with a DIFFERENT universe. 1. In Dr.Stange movie, "darker" strange caused one by altering a different universe 2. Miguel caused one when he replaced himself in a different universe 3. Marvel What if? Dr strange cause a universe to collapse by trying to stop his love from dying which was that universe's canon event(Universe was split between two identical stranges but one was "good" and one was "evil") 4. Miles started one by saving the "captain" in Mumbattan, a canon event. So Miles CAN save his dad and not cause his universe or entire multiverse to fall apart. Even though it can be considered a canon event, he wasnt meant to be spiderman so it doesn't have to be a canon event. Also, theoretically if the universe that miles ended up in at the end of the movie (42) lost a Spider-Man because Miles in that universe wasn't bitten, that means that a canon event in that universe never happened, meaning that that universe shouldn't exist. But an incursion didnt happen because of being from a different universe didn't come IN it and change things.
I love how people aren’t taking this as a kids movie because it’s animated, this is first of its kind and is amazing story, and even more amazing art and style
how did you have this at an 8? and im saying this with respect, me and my 2 buddies are like avid comicbook readers and we walked out of there like woah this has to be one of the best spiderman films, and just superhero film as well
@@leo6231 The main reason was that I didn't feel an "impact" with the movie's plot. Like I didn't see the story as "Wow, that's so amazing. I get it. Yea that makes so much sense". It hards to put into words but hopefully you understand what I mean. I saw the plot as "ok, things are happening. Cool.". With David and Ed's explanation, I finally got the "impact". I was able to understand what the movie's plot was trying to tell me and thus finally got it. I now understand and can relate it to my own life. But since I couldn't understand what the plot was trying to tell me at first I had it at an 8.
Such a pleasant surprise for a Monday 🕷️, love David and Ed’s commentary as always :) I also love how Miles is a top physics student, it really ties well with how he has to navigate the metaverse and these canon events, and how that mirrors string theory within physics so it’s very familiar to him and is in a way empowering for his character :)! I think I’m going to do an Ed and watch it 3 times lol, I watched it twice in a row it was that remarkable, definitely one of my favourite movies, let alone as a Spider-Man movie!

Wow, Ed is more dedicated than me. I only watched it twice. This movie was excellent. I think our Spider-Man rankings are the same. I also really loved the breakdown of Lord and Miller's career. As a Star Wars fan, I didn't really care for the Solo movie that came out and I'm always going to wonder what the movie could've been if they stayed. Great discussion gentlemen.
Yooo the last couple mins when Miles as prowler said, oh? Your* dad is still alive? And he takes his mask off and he realizes its him, as prowler, because his dad died. Then Miles used his electricity power which is also a unique touch to his spiderman, which ends up helping him in the end. Such a dope cliff hanger with the comic book to be continued font too and it makes me want to watch the next one hella bad 💯
I loved this film and I genuinely appreciate you guys talking about it. One of my favourite scenes that’s underrated is when Miles has the cakes and he’s manoeuvring his way up the stairwell with his spider skills. That can’t be done in live action unless with great difficulty so to see that translated from a comic book style into animation was brilliant.
The problem is not sharing your feelings it's oversharing. It's not just genz doing it it's a lot of people just saying things that shouldn't be on social media. People think that the people that follow you are infact actual friends and not strangers. They say things that start fights or they get mad with their followers bc they didn't elaborate enough and people took it wrong or just people didn't like what they said etc. People haven't learn that sometimes some things just don't need to be said or need to be shown to strangers.
Oh man as an Asian, I can hands down say that spiderman across the spider-verse is better than everything everywhere all at once (in my opinion) It's something I can watch multiple times
I’m late to watching this movie but in the first film, when Miles meets his universe’s Spider-Man they’re spider senses activate. Mile’s spider sense color is purple and green; his uncle (the prowler’s colors), but in that moment it turns into blue and red to match Spider-Man’s colors. Which I think confirms that if Miles never met Peter he would have turned out like his uncle and became prowler.
I loved watching this film!!! I RARELY ever watch films twice and this is definitely a film twice i went out of my way to rewatch and at cinemas. It was amazing!! I definitely loved it! It’s definitely in my list of favorite movie of all time and superhero film category as well. I greatly enjoyed watching your podcast David and I absolutely agree with what you and Ed had to say!!! The colors were a big thing to me and just like you said earlier in the video how you had to rewatch it the second time so you can see other things that you missed the first time, exactly what I did too.

There was a hint in Into the Spiderverse when Miles first meets Spiderman. His spider sense was green and purple like the Prowler but when he met Peter, the colors changed to red and blue to match, foreshadowing Miles going forward as Spiderman instead of becoming antagonistic like the Prowler. So in a universe without Spiderman, Miles in 42, relied on his uncle since there was no prominent hero. So even though the Miles we know may have gotten bitten, there was the possibility he would have become the villain without meeting Spiderman.
I knew nothing about Miles except little things that my children told me. I haven’t kept up with anything since I’ve been in school. Just graduated and found out on a whim that the film was coming to theaters. I took my children to see the movie and was more invested in it than they were😂 I’m even more excited than they are for the next sequel❤ also had to go back and watch the first one😂

Another thing on Universe 42 Miles Morales, what if he's an anti-hero? New Rockstars pointed this out. Universe 42 has been taken over by the sinister 6 as indicated by the billboard signs. What if in theory Miles(42)'s father died because of the Sinister 6 and his uncle aaron took him under his wing and became the prowler for revenge?
So I think the reason miles ends up as the prowler in earth 42 is because he was not spiderman. The comics and the PS4 game follow a similar story. Miles becomes spiderman -> father dies -> finds out prowler is uncle Aaron. In this case he never became spiderman but his dad still dies ("uncle Ben" canon effect). Who does he have left to turn to, uncle Aaron (who I presume is the prowler before giving the mantle to miles). In earth 1610 (our miles), miles was already spiderman when he found out uncle Aaron was the prowler (canon event) but his universe uncle Aaron dies but his father lives (because miles is an anomaly). The other spider men in the spider society were spider people when their canon event happens (ie. "Uncle Ben" dies and Captain Stacy dies)
Initially this movie was a good 8/10 but there was something that I was missing out that I couldn't understand to fully appreciate the film, after listening to the podcast and the explanations of the meta themes I have a way better understanding and appreciation for it so now the film is definitely a 10/10 loved the discussion

Im not necessarily sure earth 42 miles is a antagonist or villain. Because in the video game his uncle tried to be better and was a very different prowler than what we know. Hes more of an anti hero and maybe miles prowler is more like that, like miguel a lil angrier and more stirn but overall good at heart just has not so kind means of action in battle lol
Spiderman 2099 was never a Vampire lol He has claws and fangs due to him splicing his DNA, with DNA from his past before he was addicted to drugs, to try to get rid of his addiction but the DNA also had spider DNA. Whatever species of spider DNA that was in it, had fangs and claws. So he's not half Vampire at all. On another note, I feel like the story of this movie, could only be done with Miles because he's not like every other Spiderman.
Here’s the thing it is dumb to say you wouldn’t like it if you played the game cuz to the people who didnt…they loved it cuz it was well done and in general a good show to watch . But there are two sides the people who played the game and was with the story for like 15 years finally see their characters nd the world come to life so its reasonable they nitpick. The problem is neil druckman who’s ruining the game. Initially the story wasnt just written by druckman but part two was only niel thats why there was so much controversy and hate for it. Now this show is also guided by just niel and people dont like it it cuz he fucks over the fans in story consistency. its not just about being different( in many cases people are too much just cuz its a little different i can agree the og fanbase is just as bad)i see both sides

Havent even watched this episode yet but i know its gonna be good. Ive just seen spiderman yesterday. I am at a total loss for words of how good the movie was. The first one was amazing and this 2nd one was 2x better. Such an amazing movie, def 11/10 and is going to be my top 10 movies of all time. The soundtracks to the characters that were brought in to the villains and story. This movie was an emotional rollercoaster for Gwen and Miles. Such a great movie that im gonna go see it again. Animation and soundtracks were soo good, metro boomin really killed it with all the artist collabs he used. Also really liked the romance it had, it wasnt too much and wasnt too little either. And the plot twists was crazy in this one lol, def did not expect any scenes to play out like that.

The movie was amazing but there’s something about the ending that didn’t really satisfy me. There wasn’t really any big fight with any bad guys really. Could’ve ended it with a big fight but it’s still a great movie.
I listened to your commentary , and i can see how your take away is " that it's generational commentary " . Which is valid . BUT , when i saw it i thought it was more about choice . Choice in the face of adversity . About being able to CHOOSE who you want to be despite what others expect of you OR tell you who to be. And this being a MULTI VERSE movie is tailor made for that theme. That's why " the canon event " theory does not hold up . Spider - Gwen is perfect example of that . And two it's the Freaking Multiverse by it's very definition , it means that there a universe for everything and every event . The Multiverse IS about all the different choices , that were not taken or WERE taken , and /or will be taken. i think the reason WHY Miguel O'hara took the stance he did was because , first and foremost he is a time travelers , so he is looking at things from time traveler's point of view. To him preserving the timeline is what's MOST important.

I saw a strong trans allegory when Gwen came out to her dad. It's sadly a common experience for LGBTQ+ people. Her dad's reaction, feeling distraught and struggling to accept her identity resonates with the emotional aspect often felt in these situations.The visual cues like the trans flag and colors in her room connect it to the transgender experience too so kudos to the creators for shedding light on this, It'll definitely resonate with the LGBTQ+ community.

Can you Please check into and report on what is going on between Colleen Ballinger & former super fan Adam Mctyre along with others that are coming forward from her fandom. Three years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, Adam posted a video exposing her for grooming & exploiting him for her YT career as Miranda Sings, he was 17 years old and she was 33 years old at the time, he stated that she used him to help bolster her career without giving him credit or payment for his ideas among some other disturbing behavior towards him in a parasocial relationship that he believed to be a real friendship. In the last week & a half it has come out that she has had a smear vendetta using other gossip channels & influencers to go after him and bully him. Please Please Please look into this situation. The power dynamic between them was extremely inappropriate & unfair! She has yet to give any kind of response.
great break down of the movie - what if..... Miles' real dad was the "uncle" prowler and his real "uncle" is his current dad. which is why he needs to die.
If u think about the colors shown when Gwen is pouring her heart out to her dad the time she gets sent back. It represents the same colors as the trans flag, it’s the perfect analogy to understand that when Gwen is stuck with her problems not wanting to express or tell, that same sentiment can be correlated to a trans person. To make us understand that we can share the same problems.

All the foreshadowing they put in here was amazing like the sweater miles was wearing when he went into universe 42 my god
There was a hint in Into the Spiderverse when Miles first meets Spiderman. His spider sense was green and purple like the Prowler but when he met Peter, the colors changed to red and blue to match, foreshadowing Miles going forward as Spiderman instead of becoming antagonistic like the Prowler. So in a universe without Spiderman, Miles in 42, relied on his uncle since there was no prominent hero.
So even though the Miles we know may have gotten bitten, there was the possibility he would have become the villain without meeting Spiderman.
Cant believe you guys didnt talk about how amazing and beautiful the soundtrack was :o
I knew nothing about Miles except little things that my children told me. I haven’t kept up with anything since I’ve been in school. Just graduated and found out on a whim that the film was coming to theaters. I took my children to see the movie and was more invested in it than they were😂 I’m even more excited than they are for the next sequel❤ also had to go back and watch the first one😂

Another thing on Universe 42 Miles Morales, what if he's an anti-hero? New Rockstars pointed this out. Universe 42 has been taken over by the sinister 6 as indicated by the billboard signs. What if in theory Miles(42)'s father died because of the Sinister 6 and his uncle aaron took him under his wing and became the prowler for revenge?

The way I clicked so fast on this, I don't even listen to podcasts. But David and Spider Verse? Yessir!
So I think the reason miles ends up as the prowler in earth 42 is because he was not spiderman. The comics and the PS4 game follow a similar story. Miles becomes spiderman -> father dies -> finds out prowler is uncle Aaron. In this case he never became spiderman but his dad still dies ("uncle Ben" canon effect). Who does he have left to turn to, uncle Aaron (who I presume is the prowler before giving the mantle to miles). In earth 1610 (our miles), miles was already spiderman when he found out uncle Aaron was the prowler (canon event) but his universe uncle Aaron dies but his father lives (because miles is an anomaly).
The other spider men in the spider society were spider people when their canon event happens (ie. "Uncle Ben" dies and Captain Stacy dies)
Initially this movie was a good 8/10 but there was something that I was missing out that I couldn't understand to fully appreciate the film, after listening to the podcast and the explanations of the meta themes I have a way better understanding and appreciation for it so now the film is definitely a 10/10 loved the discussion

Im not necessarily sure earth 42 miles is a antagonist or villain. Because in the video game his uncle tried to be better and was a very different prowler than what we know. Hes more of an anti hero and maybe miles prowler is more like that, like miguel a lil angrier and more stirn but overall good at heart just has not so kind means of action in battle lol

Spiderman 2099 was never a Vampire lol He has claws and fangs due to him splicing his DNA, with DNA from his past before he was addicted to drugs, to try to get rid of his addiction but the DNA also had spider DNA. Whatever species of spider DNA that was in it, had fangs and claws. So he's not half Vampire at all.
On another note, I feel like the story of this movie, could only be done with Miles because he's not like every other Spiderman.

Here’s the thing it is dumb to say you wouldn’t like it if you played the game cuz to the people who didnt…they loved it cuz it was well done and in general a good show to watch . But there are two sides the people who played the game and was with the story for like 15 years finally see their characters nd the world come to life so its reasonable they nitpick. The problem is neil druckman who’s ruining the game. Initially the story wasnt just written by druckman but part two was only niel thats why there was so much controversy and hate for it. Now this show is also guided by just niel and people dont like it it cuz he fucks over the fans in story consistency. its not just about being different( in many cases people are too much just cuz its a little different i can agree the og fanbase is just as bad)i see both sides

That was for the first movie. The second one no call back or NOTHING! but then again… I left my agency and I’m not acting currently so who knows… either way no hard feelings the movie is GREAT.

Havent even watched this episode yet but i know its gonna be good. Ive just seen spiderman yesterday. I am at a total loss for words of how good the movie was. The first one was amazing and this 2nd one was 2x better. Such an amazing movie, def 11/10 and is going to be my top 10 movies of all time. The soundtracks to the characters that were brought in to the villains and story. This movie was an emotional rollercoaster for Gwen and Miles. Such a great movie that im gonna go see it again. Animation and soundtracks were soo good, metro boomin really killed it with all the artist collabs he used. Also really liked the romance it had, it wasnt too much and wasnt too little either. And the plot twists was crazy in this one lol, def did not expect any scenes to play out like that.

Yea I underestimated casuals?not so much into Superhero movies ( i know you watch them and try to follow it) but i mean it like in a comic lover and follower type . Most media has this poorly ranked and even have read on variety they have this as the 7th best spiderman film. I was like WTF were they watching. so my apologies. im really interested in this review but don't have the time to really just focus and listen At the moment. but im just relieved that you guys thought about this as high as I did, its a beautiful masterpiece and its only part 1
The movie was amazing but there’s something about the ending that didn’t really satisfy me. There wasn’t really any big fight with any bad guys really. Could’ve ended it with a big fight but it’s still a great movie.
That’s what part two is for. The big fight is yet to come.

I listened to your commentary , and i can see how your take away is " that it's generational commentary " . Which is valid . BUT , when i saw it i thought it was more about choice . Choice in the face of adversity . About being able to CHOOSE who you want to be despite what others expect of you OR tell you who to be. And this being a MULTI VERSE movie is tailor made for that theme. That's why " the canon event " theory does not hold up . Spider - Gwen is perfect example of that . And two it's the Freaking Multiverse by it's very definition , it means that there a universe for everything and every event . The Multiverse IS about all the different choices , that were not taken or WERE taken , and /or will be taken.
i think the reason WHY Miguel O'hara took the stance he did was because , first and foremost he is a time travelers , so he is looking at things from time traveler's point of view. To him preserving the timeline is what's MOST important.

I saw a strong trans allegory when Gwen came out to her dad. It's sadly a common experience for LGBTQ+ people. Her dad's reaction, feeling distraught and struggling to accept her identity resonates with the emotional aspect often felt in these situations.The visual cues like the trans flag and colors in her room connect it to the transgender experience too so kudos to the creators for shedding light on this, It'll definitely resonate with the LGBTQ+ community.

Can you Please check into and report on what is going on between Colleen Ballinger & former super fan Adam Mctyre along with others that are coming forward from her fandom. Three years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, Adam posted a video exposing her for grooming & exploiting him for her YT career as Miranda Sings, he was 17 years old and she was 33 years old at the time, he stated that she used him to help bolster her career without giving him credit or payment for his ideas among some other disturbing behavior towards him in a parasocial relationship that he believed to be a real friendship. In the last week & a half it has come out that she has had a smear vendetta using other gossip channels & influencers to go after him and bully him. Please Please Please look into this situation. The power dynamic between them was extremely inappropriate & unfair! She has yet to give any kind of response.

If u think about the colors shown when Gwen is pouring her heart out to her dad the time she gets sent back. It represents the same colors as the trans flag, it’s the perfect analogy to understand that when Gwen is stuck with her problems not wanting to express or tell, that same sentiment can be correlated to a trans person. To make us understand that we can share the same problems.
