OUTRO MUSIC: “Last Stop” by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio - Ігри
I always love how every season people pretend like it’s the first time anyone has ever complained about the politics in The Boys, when people had been complaining even before it had Stormfront directly insinuate that Pewdiepie was a Nazi.
Listening to Stormfront say Anything was so difficult, especially when i would show Blatant Quotes from her to some casual friends of mine, and they'd react like she'd said Nothing Wrong, at first.
Like, they sneak so much Garbage Right Past the csual audience, F*cking Somehow.
I was outright baffled man, idk wtf is going on.
@@lusasedoux479Ironic too because if she *wasn't* an awful character but only when she was not even remotely political
Stormfront was too based for this show
Storm front didn’t say that. The shrinking girl in Gen V did
@@jackjawsThey both did.
I think that if you have less subtlety than a comic book written by Garth Ennis, you have officially failed at being satire.
@Rotom0479 iirc in the comic, Tek Knight was only driven to degeneracy by his brain tumor, and he was horrified by it. And was seeking therapy, sent his sidekick away to protect him.
Ennis is on the nose and upsetting in a compelling way. This is insipid.
Ennis was also given the benefit of writing in the early oughts, a period where you could pass off degeneracy as high-brow commentary
@@SquagelZ I'm at the point where if someone says the comic is bad then why would anyone make a TV adaptation? Especially when fans of the show are saying the comic is too offensive?
Yes; I don’t like using 4chan as a adjective but the boys comic is the most 4chan type of writing
Fringy hits the nail on the head. Everything these people do is always done with the most cynical, spiteful, and hateful point of view. They hate any kind of heroism and want everyone to be as sad and miserable as they are.
Yeah, he's got it figured out. I don't understand this need for pushing the envelope. It doesn't work out most of the time, and it ends up creating really horrible stuff.
Yup, it’s even worse when you think about where the world is at this time
Did you know that the creator of the show The Boys is of a certain ethnic background?
I'm noticing a pattern with the creators of this degenerate, shock value, demoralizing, hateful, spiteful, cynical "art".
The irony is that the original comic series was sometimes heavily criticised for being exactly that: a take on comic book superheroes that was mostly driven by superhero spite and shock value. The TV series was praised for diverging from that.
And now look at it. "The Bat-Cave is sort of a dungeon" my ass.
Immoral people hate heroism. Moral relativists (a.k.a. idiots) have to smear everything into shades of grey or risk being reminded of the ugly truth that some things are good and right while others are bad and wrong.
SOME of Batman's wealthy villains:
Two-face (district attorney), Penguin (son of billionaires), Court of owls, Deadshot (son of billionaires), Hush (son of billionaires), Maxie Zeus, Ra's al gul, terrible trio, Falcone, Maroni, Black mask, Catman, Thorne, Daggett, Dr Dorian and Count Vertigo.
Batman fights crime, he doesn't profit from it. He actively loses money, blood and friends in his fight for justice.
People like Kripke can't understand this because they only see identity, not character. Bruce Wayne is a rich White guy, and to them those things are bad so Bruce must be bad also.
He should read Batman: War on Crime. It has Bruce Wayne talking to a rich man who is about to destroy a poor neighborhood, and Bruce is disgusted by him. Bruce has been shown multiple times throughout canon to despise selfish, rich people who take advantage of the weak and poor.
@@hope-cat4894Also, in Stayic Shock, Bruce shows up and builds a rehab center for the people with powers.
It was clearly supposed to be a iron man parody why did they make it Batman. Then took away everything that made the drawn character cool.
I don't read Batman. How does he make money?
@@Misterfreezeable He owns a controlling interest in a publically traded corporation essentially google/boeing/amazon/whatever the biggest power company is
I'm so fucking sick of postmodern deconstruction and subversion of tropes and stereotypes.
I want to watch something fucking heartfelt. Something meaningful. Something unironic.
Something that wasn't made to mock something else, but which was made with love and passion, rather than derision and ironic deconstruction.
Hollywood is dead, and Hollywood writers killed it.
And that’s why Invincible succeeds where The Boys fails, Invincible is a deconstruction, but one that comes from a deep love of the super hero genre and offers a reconstruction that breaks tropes without breaking tried and true themes. The Boys meanwhile, both the comic and the show despite how much fans of the show claim it’s better, are just cynical and come from a place of hate, they offer nothing constructive, just a petty author and now showrunner venting their jealousy and spitefulness.
Everyone wants to do a red wedding but not many of them are as masterful as GRRM.
A-fucking-men. It's a bunch of adult children huffing each other's farts thinking they know better than thousands of years of storytelling and archetypes that speak to something deeper in the audience than pervy poop jokes
Can i give you perhaps a "cringe" series? I Love Outlander, its written for women but its historical and also has politics and wars and so on. First season has some brutal topics and they handle IT Well. Also the men and women dynamic is great! If IT IS absolutely nothing for you i recommend blue eye Samurai, young inspector mourse, the Terror (season 1) and melchior

I love how these are the people who will preach all day about toxic masculinity and the need to be kinder to male rape victims, yet they are the exact same people who go "Hurr-durr, a man being raped is funny!" and play it off for laughs.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the show didn’t make fun of Hughie’s “grape”?
The only example I can think of is way back in season 1 when Deep was “graped” but that was more comeuppance than making fun of him
@tanner201x8 Kripke - man behind the boys was pleased how fun his deconstruction of batman was and dungeon scene with hughie.

Correct. The fun was in seeing normal people figuring out how to take down corrupt and evil demigods. The show lost focus and is zooming in on things we don't care about.
Agreed. They had the perfect baseline for an awesome show but ruined it with their messaging. Their messaging that was constantly show to be bad throughout the show, ironically.
I would say the bigger issue is all the morally black characters. Not white, not grey, just black.
At one point I could feel that The Boys were on the side of good (their grievances against Supes being very justified), fighting against the corruption.
Now? No one is good. You’re just watching people roll around in impossibly more black levels of evil.
I wish I could say the political messaging was all that bad, but I was too busy witnessing the destruction of characters over and over for it to matter.
It started to feel like a “becoming the thing you swore to destroy”.

I’ll never understand why MM called Soldier Boy a racist at the end. Soldier Boy showed zero signs of being a racist the entire season.
It was pretty obvious from early season 2.
Kripke made characters like Soldier Boy as strawmen of the people he hates but got pissed people actually found them entertaining.
It obviously got under his skin, so he just keeps tripling and quadrupling down on the crazy. And then you have to read the "media literates" being cringe on social media.
And ironically the same morons claiming to be “media literate” never realized they were strawmen to begin with.
Probably why we’ll never see soldier boy again sadly…
@@NoahHunterGamble Honestly, with the way the show is heading, that might be a good thing...

@@NoahHunterGamble Well he was teased in the Season finale, so we'll have to see what happens.
Ironically I think part of the reason that Invincible was so popular was because even though it's dark and has comedic aspects most of the main characters are very genuine and heroic characters that just have somewhat more realistic personalities, whereas The Boys is just shock value and one liners mostly with a few good scenes once in a blue moon and some talented actors.
I feel like people are getting kinda tired of the subversive stuff
Invincible also has a level of stakes and gravitas for everything that happens in the story, the serious scenes are given space and respect, it doesn't waste time while still being a comfortable pace.
The Boys: The writer's fetish and political views. I stopped watching when they fumbled the easiest finale setup ever in season 3, and I'm glad I did because this season just sounds like edgy shock humour plus political garbage.
Yeah, I was livid when they didn't wrap it up on season 3. It was very baffling that they kept doing it after that point since it genuinely felt like the show has nothing left to resolve besides Homelanders' kid, but that could've been dealt with if they last two episodes were rewritten slightly.
It's FILLED with that!
It’s only “political garbage” because you disagree with it…
In the comics when homelander realizes he's not special and just another Vought product that was beyond mediocre he's killed by black noir, a superior and truly inhuman being. In the show he beats soldier boy in a 3v1, beats Maeve while holding back and yet is somehow still a man child and learns nothing from the ordeal

My sister was rewatching Grimm a while back. I remember liking the first couple episodes, so I joined her. Halfway through the show one of the characters, a witch, disguises herself as the protagonist's girlfriend and assaults the unaware man. We were both disgusted, but what was worse is that this rape by deception is presented as a mistake and nothing more. Even worse still was that they decided these two characters should fall in love and get married. Hollywood seems unwilling to portray male victims as victims.
Yeah, after the incident, the characters first were really offended, but when Nick explained the situation about him getting literally r'ed, they just glossed over it. That and them ending up together really rubbed me the wrong way.
Ruined his initially great relationship with Juliette. Admittedly, Adalind and Nick had great chemistry later on, but the entire relationship was undermined by how it started. The really angry part was that it was never addressed as rape.
I surprised somebody watch this show . That was kind of messed up episode.
I love Grimm but that should've definitely been handled differently
I loved Grimm, but did NOT like Adalinde. That bit was definitely a show low point. (Now Nick & Rosalee? Show high point.)
They made the mistake of thinking people were sticking to the show for the satire.
They weren’t, the main attractions for the first season was seeing people without powers overcoming an enemy they theoretically could not defeat.
It was a grounded power fantasy with good and interesting characters , that was the best part of the show.
The first episode of the show was by far my favorite so far and I'm halfway through season 2. Legit, seeing Hughie and Butcher overcome and outsmart Translucent, and beat the ass of a corrupt superhero is such a hype and fulfilling momeny; the show would be a 10/10 if It didn't stray from the feeling and tone of this episode. It actually felt triumphant and righteous. Sadly every character has to be a piece of garbage morally. I'm still watching but I'm basically ignoring the politics.
my largest complaint in season 2, where i gave up and quit, was the boys went from a ragtag group fighting supes... to a hand full of morons who havent been murdered yet cause the plot? the black noir house scene, the grabbing a bunch of hand guns to go fight for homelanders son scene, the beached whale the deep scene, hugie in their hq scene... the list went on and on. the story writers had no fucking clue what they had, and went down a path that is honestly just pathetic. its like driving an awesome prototype vehicle with amazing power source regeneration off a cliff for the lawls
All the scenes I've re-watched from _The Boys_ were nuanced, emotional scenes like Butcher meeting his Dad. Some of the best scenes (like Homelander going back to the lab) manage to be violent and emotional at the same time. Yeah, I think the writers have really misunderstood their own show if they think it's all just about satire and violence.
In season 1 Frenchie says every supe needs a special weakness cause normal weapons and tactics are useless against them. After that they never bring this up again and fight supes with normal weapons
Batman has his costumes to equip him for certain jobs and to mark his progression. Robin is Batman's partner. Their relationship is either professional of familial depending on which Robin, and they become known in Gotham for helping people. Nothing about the showrunner's description of him makes sense. Batman doesn't profit off the poor. In Year 1, he strikes at the rich and hunts the "for eating gotham's wealth." Crime in Gotham is usually tied to those who have, not those who don't.
Most of Batman's enemies are very wealthy.
You don't get it guys, the Joker's just misunderstood, he's actually a really cool guy deep down probably and so hashtag relatable. He does crimes just to feed all his -goons- starving kids and just wants to have fun, is that SO bad? But noooo, -Richman- Batman has to just ruin everything. >:(
As Despot or Little Platoon said, Batman's enemies are motivated by ideology not by wealth or lack thereof. Even if Gotham turned into a socialist utopia batman's most dangerous villains like Joker, Scarecrow, Bane, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, would still be threat to the people of Gotham.
@@Vaguer_Weevil same people who enjoy that one animated show that is set in hell and angels are dicks and hell is just quirky and gay rather than literal eternal suffering.

@@allthingslegendsButcher should be over his conflict with Ryan and be working tirelessly to get Ryan on their side. It’s what his wife would’ve wanted, and she’s the only person who matters to him. At the very least, the pragmatic, Homelander-hating Butcher should want to patch things up with Ryan because we all know he’s the only one who can kill Homelander.
@@allthingslegends It's not pretentious at all. Frenchie was probably my favorite character along with Kumiko, and they upended their entire relationship so they could spend screentime working out their problems alone instead of helping each other as they naturally would.
But I’ve given up my emotional investment in the show after S2 started adding literal conservative strawmen. If I want to watch rich people fellate themselves while spewing propaganda, I’ll turn on MSNBC.
As for Butcher, there’s no reason he wouldn’t have gone into that fight planning to take Ryan away from Homelander. He got over his hatred for supes two seasons ago when he started living with one.
I remember a dissertation or some sort of essay that my mythology teacher had us read that basically made the same opinion on Batman. That Batman is simply keeping the status quo of Gotham, saying it's basically a police state and that Joker is basically the good guy trying to destroy capitalism. Luckily almost all the nerds in class basically said that it was dumb and wrong on the lore.
Also, being a fan of Supernatural I thought the Boys was gonna be fun, and then I realized that Seth Rogen was apart of it, and from then on I knew it was gonna be obnoxiously violent, sexual, and a bunch of dumb fart jokes.
This show has been progressively getting more and more in your face with the strawman political commentary. When the genderfluid hero in Gen V started complaining about "their people" always being pushed out of the spotlight for who they are, I had to drop it. I feel like the humour has been getting more and more vile with the sex shit to the point where it's just softcore pronography. It also shows the immaturity of the writers, where the only way they can make a character unlikeable is making them act like a cartoon villain and be into gross sex stuff.

That Batman critique, Batman being fascist is laughable. The crime families feature heavily in Gotham, these are rich people who own the police and control organized crime. This is in addition to his regular rouges like Joker, Poison Ivy, and Riddler. Penguin himself is rich too. If Batman is anything political he is anti-fascist. But Batman isn't political, he is a paragon story of discipline and passion, and love for his community. Yet despite that, many comics point out the consequences of his obsession, with strained ties with his "Bat Family." He is a commentary on what trauma can do to someone, there are many different reactions to different types of trauma, but one that's often seen is a strong desire to not see that done to others, and to give back to your community. That is Batman. And his no-kill rule is as understandable as it is full of negative consequences. This is why he is such a compelling character. Kripke's comments just show he doesn't know anything about Batman.
Eh, I kinda hate what his no-kill rule has become. When I got into Batman comics I started with the originals, and originally Batman did kill when necessary and stopped killing altogether when he recruited Robin. Modern Batman writers have this weird f$&king tendency to just straight up make him a psychopath, saying that the only reason he doesn’t kill is that he’d never be able to stop and would just become another mass murderer, and to me it’s just insane how this character assassination has been canonized and accepted by the fans.
Well it's not a show making characters like they really are. The point is turning them into sick bastards. lol So Batman is practicing S & M with Robin, etc....
@@Slender_Man_186 I agree with you there, Batman being a psychopath with his no-kill rule being there because he'd kill everyone in sight if he started is poor characterization. A Batman who killed would never let Joker live, so him not killing allows the villain to return for more stories. But I like the interpretation that he doesn't kill so that he wouldn't cause someone out there to go through what he did when his parents were gunned down. Something he sticks to even when it would be an easy case to say he should kill the villain. A character flaw of his.
Plus, we already have “Batman but fascist” character. His name is Lex Luthor.
Batman is hunting super criminals. What does it matter if they are poor?
I'm kinda baffled they went and made Tek Knight a Batman parody when Black Noir already exists. The concept of Tek Knight strikes me as a Iron Man/Tony Stark parody, which given how aggressively the show attacks the MCU, would fit rather well into the narrative. But no, gotta make all of our adolescent Batman jokes that everyone has heard countless times already.
He is more of an iron man parody in the comics, although its kind of an amalgamation, they just leaned batman because Kripke wanted to make the "haha batman molests robin" joke for the quintillionth time in human history
Especially with Webweaver being a spiderman parody, the sidekick dynamic would have worked much better if he was a parody of iron man. He even invites webweaver to his place of operations just like in the first spiderman.

The immaturity levels are beyond the roof with this guy.
It's not that much worse than anything in the comic. If you wanna see something really messed up, look up what The Boys' version of Professor X gets up to.
@@AtariDadthe whole point of the comic was to be disgustingly bad and raunchy, the show runners clearly aren’t going in purely that direction and yet it’s somehow worse than the comic…. His stupid logic is “every superhero farts in their skin tight suit so it’s obvious that every superhero has a huge fart fetish”
Funnily enough a big problem with the show is how safe it is. It tries to pretend it is edgy by shoving gross out gore and sex, but it almost has no actual effect as that kind of thing just becomes meaningless schlock when used to much (which they do). Even with some of their most outwardly evil characters, they to are milquetoast and can’t even come out and be fully evil and abhorrent, often just barely dipping their toes into depicting the evils the comics do.
This is all is supremely ironic as the show is too safe-edgy to actually depict what a really repugnant N@zi or bigot would look like if they were given superpowers, something which the comic doesn’t shy away from. For all its flaws, the comic goes balls the to the wall for good or ill, and this helps sell the despicable characters of the superheroes.
In the show their only reference point for bad people seem to be their political opponents, so they are similarly milquetoast as the show writers opponents are in real life. Not they understand that as they view anyone who does not share their opinions as being evil.
All of this ironically takes the bite out of the people they want you to hate the most. They want you to view characters like Homelander, Stormfront, and Firecracker as evil racists and bigots (who are stand ins for their political opponents characterizes almost solely by what the popular talking points in left wing circles are at the time) but they are not actually going to be depicted as truly repugnant in their beliefs due to how restrictive Hollywood and its left wing biases are.
For example, Stormfront the literal N@zi spouts some milquetoast halfhearted lines about “Aryan purity” and never goes further than calling someone a “black piece of shit” in the show. For a N@zi she is downright progressive and has none of the despicable outwardly evil beliefs that have made them so infamous.
Homelander is to inconstant to be judged by anything other than his barely consistent character traits such as his egomania and instability. His intelligent, awareness, and power fluctuates on a dime so whatever plot needs to occur can occur regardless of if it makes no sense with how he is shown to act prior. This is especially bad regarding his powers as he straight up seems to lose his heightened senses in the newest season as he is not able to track anyone through walls anymore and his super hearing never comes into play either despite there being several scenarios where he is searching for people or loud events that he is needed for occur without him knowing and either of these would have tipped him off.
Firecracker just straight up admits she is being disingenuous and has a fairly legitimate reason for her motives. So of course they make her a p3do as of course “LOL, those dumb right wingers who are worried about child exploitation must be the real p3do’s!”. She is barely a character, she is basically just a cardboard cutout that spouts whatever right wing talking points the show runners think the right wing believes so they can point out how stupid they are, an immensely easy thing to do considering they literally can just write whatever they want into the world to makes their real world position be correct in the show.
Basically its all half-hearted, toothless, biased, and brain-rotted political commentary that is simultaneously trying to be edgy, not offend the various strict ideological beliefs of left-wing Hollywood, and hit every talking point the right wing has (or more likely than not does not actually have) rather than putting a good story first.

The show’s flaws are becoming very apparent in this season. All the flaws in the previous seasons have been amplified in Season 4 from the over-reliance on shock value, inconsistency in character motivations, characters just resetting to the way they started at the beginning of the show, and perhaps most of all, very shallow and lazy political satire on the levels of a Daily Wire show like Mr. Birchum.

The problem with deconstruction is that generally speaking it's easy, therefore the creatively bankrupt can do it. Creation is much harder, but when done well, it lasts forever. Few people can paint a masterpiece, but anyone can start spray painting over it. This is why Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc. will mean something long after this series is over, because it is part of the creation of a modern (originally American but now worldwide) mythos. The people who built these characters: Stan Lee, Bob Kane, Siegel and Shuster, Christopher Reeves, Kevin Conroy, will be remembered for their parts in building and portraying those myths.
Making everything dark and twisted only works so long as the darkness and twists are presented as deviations. Once you make them the norm, they no longer have the same impact on the viewer. The Joker works in a world where people don't all embrace Nietzsche nihilism and Marquis de Sade hedonism, aka the real world.
I've often thought that genuine hope must be one of the hardest things for an author to get right. For those who try to make a hopeful through adversity story, it can often become a Pollyana nightmare of "They've killed and graped everyone I care about, even my dog, but gosh darned it I'm gonna smile right through it!" and they just keep piling on horrific traumas to up the ante. In response, most modern writers seem to say "Yep, that stinks, so let's just do a hopeless nihilistic mess where anyone with the slightest hint of good is a hypocrite, an idiot, or killed off horribly."
*I lost interest in The Boys halfway through Season One.*
It’s very clear the writers want spectacle with no attention to nuance or understanding. Not worth my time over plenty of decent alternatives.
Its was also left wing garbage from season 1.

So, people weren't expecting this by the second season? Homelander is the only reason why this is even watchable.
Ah yes, Batman, famous hunter of poor people. Like the Joker. And Harvey Dent. And Oswald Cobblepot. And Carmine Falconi.
It also ignores the fact that lower tier criminals, like muggers, spend far more time targeting their fellow impoverished people rather than going after rich folks. When you look at victims of drug gangs and the like, you'll seldom find a Rockefeller on the list.
The best thing about the Boys was Jensen Ackles’ portrayal of Soldier Boy. Every scene he was in was awesome
I hope he's in the next episode and the rest of the season. I only care about him and Homelander anymore.
Soldier Boy was the real hero of Season 3. He COULD have taken out Homelander, if only the rest of them didn't turn against him. Yea, he's kind of an asshole, but so is everyone is this world. At least Soldier Boy seems to give a shit. He was utterly disgusted with Homelander, and even after learning that he was his father, still went through with his promise to Butcher.
It’s funny how him and homelander are written to be “evil right wingers” and yet they are everyone’s favorites
Still funny to me how the show tried to potray SB as "rayciss" yet he (by his own admission) was friends with Bill Cosby, went on Solid Gold and sang a rap song, hated Homelander and had a black man on his hero team. Other than MM's parents SB conically killed more white ppl in the show than black ppl😂😂😂

Tbh even since season 1 i found it so odd that they chose the deep to be the unrepentant punching bag, because in the books the deep was not only one of the few characters that survived the series, but was also a black guy, and arguably one of the least villainous supes
Copy/Pasting from the full efap my opinion on this:
Honestly I hate The Boys as a comic so much it's pretty surprising that the show managed to be worse. My initial hope was that after Season 1 they'd veer into a somewhat serious story about people reverse engineering Compund V and The Seven (and assorted other 'heroes') being tapped to actually fight fellow supers, being given actual challenges and responsibilities to force them to mature, slowly realising how awful they were as people.
Also I wanted the entire thing with Becca Butcher to be that she willingly slept with Homelander and cheated, and was shuffled away by Vought without Homelander knowing about his son - another layer of Homelander being FORCED to take responsibility, and explore his actual feelings coming to terms with this. An all powerful - for the most part - character who thought he would never have actual meaningful connections suddenly finding he can have kids? amazing storytelling opportunity for an actual redemption story. Over time using this to show Homelander maturing as a person while Butcher deteriorates in response to the injustice done to him by his Wife and life overall. all these different, novel character concepts that you can do in an actually pretty good satire of these childish, irresponsible and incompetent Supers being made to actually be useful - possibly with Homelander as the enforcement mechanism to make them act, possibly via Vought or The Government threatening Becca and His Son.
Imagine the character dynamics of a Homelander desperate to build the idealistic, fake idea of a family he's seen - believing he could, in doing so, gain the happiness and contentment inherent to it - with a woman who he didn't even know was married when they had a fling - All while Becca struggles with the guilt of cheating on her husband because of the allure of power. Then the genuine character interaction of Homelander telling Butcher that he didn't know they were married and she came onto him. A single event facilitating the redemption and repair of a person born in a lab as a test subject while breaking a normal man.
Really wish this had been the direction they took but instead we got...this.
That sounds like a _far_ better premise than the nihilistic, anti-conservative/religion/heroism/decency slog Ennis came up with.
@@Lord_Numpty It's te entire reason why the 1st season had me somewhat hopeful, i saw they were taking the story in a different direction then the comics and hoped "hey, they could use this to tell an actually interesting story rather then the childish, immature trash Ennis came up with.", but turns out they had a *completely different* form of childish, immature trash in line.

It’d be even cooler to because butcher could become the villain and tear down homelanders world like he did to his. The cool hero butcher in season 1 could become the villain by the end the show with homelander being redeemed and going from villain to hero. Instead I think the writers just check the news once a week and cut and paste their super hero characters onto real people and send off the script for the actors. They literally use Jan 6 in the finale for S4 bro like how lazy are you??
Batman was an investor in Arkham. He used his influence to improve conditions for the inmates. In an episode of the animated series, he manipulates Scarecrow, Harley, and the puppet guy (can't remember his name) into testifying against their sadistic warden.
Yeah it’s funny that kripke says he hunts poor people because all I’ve ever known Batman to do is hunt down super villains and throw them into an asylum with the hope of rehabilitation, an asylum he probably bleeds money over because no one else will invest because they think it’s not doing anything with how frequently the villains break out of it 😂

Someone’s already made a response to this take they’re a real podcast now
I never cared for The Boys, neither the comic nor the show. It's every other edgy capeshit parody under the sun at this point, and frankly, everytime I hear a discussion about it, I just yearn more for the fun times we used to have in superhero movies and media. I feel the same with Invincible, but obviously it's not the same type of take on superheroes. I just don't find the soul in this genre anymore. You just keep stacking shock value after shock value to get people's eyes on it.
Hell, call me a filthy fan of the animu, but at least most mainstream anime and manga can boast that it was made for something other than half-hearted social commentaries and cheap thrills. Which is probably why American comics lost its market.
When The Boys first dropped in 2019, I immediately wrote it off. I knew what it was. I knew what it was going to continue to be. It was making fun of the mere idea of the superhero. It was deconstructing the genre in a way that wasn’t even remotely intriguing. It was edgy for the sake of being edgy not because it was trying to be unique. It wasn’t interesting. And knowing how modern Hollywood is of course you knew they would go too far with the show’s political leanings. The Boys was ass then and it doesn’t surprise me that it’s still ass now.
Well said, sir!
Finally someone else who actually understood the show from season 1.
I initially wrote Invincible off because of that. I was pleasantly surprised to read the comic and see that Mark is pretty much Superman, except he loses a lot.
I will never watch The Boys, though.
@@Shin_Mothra Invincible is good because it isn’t deconstruction. Nor is it making fun of the superhero. It’s simply telling the tale of a young man who realizes his father hides a dark secret. Mark is still a hero, or at least he’s trying to be.
@@JcgLounge Invincible is also good because even with parody characters clearly inspired by the titular Marvel and DC archetypes, the characters aren't written to be a snarky deconstruction, and actually tend to have compelling character arcs that in many ways give respect to the original templates they're based on.
Oh my dear lord, can we talk about this finally? After season 1, yeah it ain’t perfect but it was fun, look how they massacred my boys
Dear God. If someone who likes Gen V thinks this show is now garbage I can barely wrap my head around how bad it must be.
Thank god I'm not my mother because the vivid mental images she would see with these horrible descriptions of The Boys Season 4 would be far too much for me.
If I had a nickel for every time Hughie gets SAd in s4, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice
The irony of the Boys S4 is in their attempts to make people hate homelander, they had him do the most american thing ever. The scene where he kills the guy who put him in the oven as a kid, made most people I know go "man homelander's alright". The writers of this show are so oblivious they didn't realize that homelander offing a guy putting a kid in the oven for "just doing his job" is just what grandpa would have done.
