Honestly that scene where Ashley overhears that she was put on "the list" and straight up pumps herself with V to escape was tense and no one talks about it.
@@splinter360??? This was a way better choice from a writing perspective. If she leaves with A-Train, she’s basically gone from the show forever. Plus, it wouldn’t make sense for her character. She is DOMINATED by homelander, and the thought of running from him and living her entire life in fear of him isn’t a position she wants to put herself in, especially considering her ticket out (A-Train) wouldn’t be able to run her away from Homelander forever. This development is way cooler, and just like every other plot thread in this season, they were setting up for the layup that season 5 will be. Great writing choice.

I wouldn’t be able to tell my family apart from shapeshifters with those powers. I will say, they were fully aware that a shapeshifter was on the loose and something they should look out for. If they were smart, all of the boys should have been cautious and skeptical of each other. But that’s just me. In the real world people probably wouldn’t think of that
she did not act like her at all. her personality did not match annie’s. hughie should have known after 10 days knowing theres a fucking shapeshifter running around. no excuses for him
@@MAX-de8feno they don’t lol. hughie wasn’t actually assaulted in that scene by ashley. he actually assaulted her, because she was consenting to acts with webweaver not hughie. tek knight 100% knows its not webweaver tho and thats where the SA comes in. the only part of that scene that is remotely comical is ashley’s part because she’s kinky and doing nothing wrong. the scenes where tek knight is about to hurt and SA hughie have absolutely no comedy in them and are treated with the sincerely they deserve.
Homelander is, as always, a scene stealer every time he's on screen. I really hope Antony Starr is recognized with some awards. His acting has been amazing on this show.
I really agree with Charlie on Starlights angry reaction to Hughie being violated like that completely took me by surprise and Hughie not even expressing how violated and awful he feels.
I feel like she wasnt just mad about hughie fucking fake anny or proposing to her... She is clearly having an identity crisis and depression because of her past ... She was just mad because hughie proposed to the sexual happy super caring not depressed nor fucked up anny and not the real fucked up anny ... Tho that gets sorted out so i guess it is not that big of a deal.
This season was absolutely brutal to Hughie who, can we all remember please, is supposed to be the main character? He has to kill his father, he’s sexually assaulted and it’s played for laughs, he gets like 5 minutes to grieve before he’s assaulted again in the next episode in a totally different way. Butcher shits on his plans after he accepted butcher was going to die I mean it just doesn’t end
I’d say Butcher and Homelander are the real main characters since their feud is the plot of the show. Hughie’s tragedy is just the starting point for the show.
Don’t forget Starlight pulling an Invincible Season 1 after said second SA 💀 I did genuinely like this season, but it definitely has weak moments, even if the ideas of said moments make sense and are good. Just some weird execution or flatness.
It's pathetically cliched writing. It retroactively turns her muteness into a cheap writing gimmick played for "muh chills". Picture the writer's room. "So she's mute, right? But what if something happens that is so devastating and shocking that she finally speaks!" "Hasn't she experienced a ton of trauma up to this point already?" "Yeah, but this will be a season finale!"
Regarding Frenchy’s relationship with Colin: I think it was terrible not because it was gay, not because it felt random, but because it went nowhere and ultimately led to nothing. Also yes the finale was very boss
Not necessarily nothing, it leads to him turning himself in and the discussion with Kimiko that makes them realize they're both broken people who have done horrible things and struggle to live with themselves because of it, which is why they're great for each other. But yeah, it kind of sucked
They used Colin to develop frenchie and kimikos relationship and the theme of accepting yourself despite your past. Colin was never meant to be more important than that so I guess the issue is he was a waste of a character
It led to him dealing with his past and ultimately Kimiko doing so too. It felt like it would lead to nothing at first but now that the whole season's out that's just not accurate anymore.
That was literally my only issue with it. Being accused of being a homophobe as a lesbian myself by some people, because I thought the Frenchie/Colin relationship was poorly written, was really disheartening. Had it been written well, I would’ve been totally fine with it.
How poetic would it be if Soldier Boy and Ryan teamed up to kill Homelander. His family, the one thing he desperately wanted, leads to his demise. The irony would be comical
That's exactly how I've felt ever since I watched the first episode, then you have people saying this season it's too slow, nothing happens... Like, why so many people can't watch something without it being super fast-paced, action all the time? Calm tf down, it's obvious it's a set up
@@Blackfatratit wasn’t mainly a set up it was a huge slow burn and goddamn it paid off. Some of the episodes weren’t really interesting and filler focused but the majority had a lot of stuff going on that contributed to the slow burn

Ngl bro A-train seemed like the character that got the most development, respect and kept the audience interested through this whole season, every other season he was just meh I have to edit this part cause ppl are getting sensitive about the “meh” part😂: I like A-train and how his character is portrayed, when I say meh I mean they didn’t give ‘em enough screen time or respect in the series and was made to be bullied by ppl like homelander and stormfront, which the edgelords and racists don’t mind.
Erin Moriarty needs to be cast more as villains, her performance as the shape changer was one of the best in the show to date. I only wish she had more screen time.
I’m gonna be completely honest here. I think one of the reasons why she did very well as a villain was also because her facial features are now “atypical”, which combines well with acting villainous roles 😅
I just hate how the writers treated Hughie this season. When Starlight was sexually assaulted by the deep it was taken seriously, when Hughie was assaulted by tek-knight and the shapeshifter it’s not only treated as a joke but like it’s Hughies fault. Wtf
Think outside the bun bro it's mocking our society, the entire show is and suddenly hughie getting sexually assaulted and having it laughed off is different? No, it's making fun of soci ty because that's what WE DO
Is it sexual assault when you engage in it to keep your cover? Ashley 100% didn't even know and Tek probably didn't know right away, even though he wouldn't care anyways. I guess it doesn't matter because he was about to get assaulted for sure after.
@@crowntotheundergroudSexual assault is sexual assault. And when one is taken seriously while the other is played for laughs it shows some real colors behind the people making the show. And gate keeping the severity is just fucked up lol
HOW she is able to make those plans?? What logic is behind that?? And why EVERYTHING goes the way she like without any variation or mistake of the people she manipulate?? Is almost like the people around her are NOT ACTUAL HUMANS and nothing can go wrong in any part of her plan... And when you make a more complex, sofisticate, and larger plan: MORE THINGS TEND TO GO WRONG, because people don’t always will follow the plan for whatever reason... No matter how smart and accurate was that plan. Anyone can just say “everything is according to my plan”, and just give a simple and mediocre explanation of why is “intelligent” to think that way, then just attribute things that don’t have sense or relation between them and say “it was the only option, so I discovered”. 1. She attributes reasons to things that don’t have correlation between them... 2. Doesn’t explain or give hints of any part of her plan, so no one can see the “logic” behind that... 3. Make assumptions of persons and events that she Actually DOESN’T KNOW OR EVEN MEET... 4. She makes a common error that many “smart” villains do: Her plans are WAY too large, and “complex”, that they forget that having many variables doesn’t usually means the plan will go their way, PERFECTLY. It’s just no sense... 5. You never see a PLAN B, a glimpse of Improvisation, a “Escape Exit Door” of any situation, or any Actual realistic way or idea of why she is a Genius OUTSIDE her little fictional world.
@@alfonsomendez9787 Yeah, but we should not think of her intelligence in terms of human intelligence, but more in terms of artificial intelligence. She is not naturally gifted, she is turned into a hybrid. AI has the ability to collect millions of information in seconds and put them together and draw predictions in a way that is impossible to a human. Remember how she scanned Homelander first time she saw him, concluded about his prostate based ob his hand skin being thinner because of more washing. Thats not human information processing, that is machine processing. You know how social media can offer you an ad for something you just think about in your head? I read those predictions are made based on, not information on you available on those platforms, or your behavior, likes and dislikes, but on the analysis of your emotions and impulses that are behind those behaviors of yours. And the more activity of yours ai collects, the better it knows you. And beware, you yourself dont completely understand most of your impulses, so it knows you better than you know yourself, and so it is able predict your next moves. Sage isnt humanly smart, her ability to connect the cause and effect is out of the reach of human brain.
@alfonsomendez9787 Jeez chill. Have you ever thought that maybe Sage is just a very manipulative person, and will claim that things are going her way just so that she can keep her status as a smart person and ally with Homelander? Maybe think a bit deeper rather then give shallow complaints.
What I really loved is how Stan Edgar’s prediction was proven. When he was kicked out, he told Homelander that he had no one else to stand up to him. That the world would find out the monster he truly is and he’d lose control of Vought. And Homelander did. He lost control and people saw him for the monster he is. So Homelander eventually hires someone very similar to Stan to help him. Someone who stands up to him and is smarter. That person was Sage.
I mean the population doesn't see him as a monster and sage is different from stan cuz she speaks way more to homelaner but Stan rarely reveals his plans but sage is great character
Part of world sees him as a monster, the Starlighters (where ever the fuck they went) and also get that Sage is doing this for a much different reason. I’m just saying why Homelander hired her
I would love to hear Charley talk about it without worrying about spoilers by just saying his moist meter score at the beginning and telling people to watch it first if they are worried about spoilers
Season 5 is gonna go hard. Butcher's anger is fully unleashed and he's gonna wanna kill everyone, including Ryan for getting in his way. He's gonna make homelander happy for finally falling to his level.
This season almost felt like a place holder till the final episode. We did get a lot of backstory to show the darker elements of the heroes in this series. The line that best describes this season is when the shape shifter said “Everyone is the hero in their own story.” I still enjoyed it, but the season just kept spinning its wheels.
@@Mr.Coffee576Right? Honestly, Annie’s whole storyline of her being a “bad guy” doesn’t work cause.. all she really did was be a bully as a kid.. and she aborted a baby.. Idk it doesn’t make much sense to me.
@@WhereMyHugI actually disagree, cause I feel like people like her deny all the bad shit they did, and when you accept you have weird “oh well I guess I’m just and asshole then” and it take to reach the “oh I’m not an angel, but I’m not a demon, I’m just human we all sin.” I do wish they did have a bit more of an interaction and understanding, but realistically humans are more petty/ miscommunication a lot of things all the time. So it’s very realistic when I comes to the psychology of the characters. Which makes it so compelling. Tho the fan in me was also like…if they had more scenes that would be dope. I get why they didn’t…but :P
@@WheneverythingsGonebut the problem is that all the "bad shit she did" was just some offscreen backstory bullying that doesn't even manifest itself in her current personality. It makes it feel like the writers just pulled it out of their ass and makes it lose its impact. At least Frenchie's conflict made sense because we literally meet him as a criminal, and he's still pretty murdery today, just for the good side. So him having a backstory of having killed innocent people totally makes sense, while Annie's doesn't.
@@shadowgame0630 I do think they change her personality a lot for the sake of the plot, and some stuff even I was like “Yo…give her some humility.” But all and all, it didn’t bother me too, to much. I personally wouldn’t say, they pulled it out of their ass but, I thought they would play into the bullying arch more. It felt to me, very rushed and not fully fleshed out, so at times it was like “uhhh why you making her like that.”
I really appreciate Charlie pointing out the hughie was sexually assaulted man and that the writers tried to play it into a joke. And also starlight victim blaming hughie. Edit: I know both of them were victims about the situation, but it still came off insensitive for starlight to immediately blame hughie on what happened to him he didn't know or couldn't control not mentioning the fact the the shape shifter had her memories. I don't mean to write too much but another thing the writers are really trying to downplay male SA and it's weird especially forgetting that firecracker is a whole PDF but it isn't taken seriously.
Didn't she immediately after that say something that let him know he isn't actually being blamed? Like let him know she is just mad but he's not the issue. I'm struggling to remember what it was. brb lol, yeah nope never happened. It was just her expression of guilt that I was seeing. Like she knew she was fucking up, blaming herself.
“Sorry I was tricked into being assaulted by someone who looks like you, sounds like you, acts like you, and has your memories. I’ll never do that again!” Hughie got assaulted three episodes in a row. Wtf.
Highie getting sexually assaulted 3 episodes in a row and played for laughs is just downright not fun to watch. All he endured this season was traumatic event after traumatic event and its written as if it’s his fault. I really hope they treat him better next season because he feels like the heart and goodness of the show
I kinda think it’s going to lead him from being butchers minion, Hughie gets kinda dark near the end in the comics so as much as it sucks that he’s just a joke I feel like the bad shit he does will feel very justified, I mean he just let his best friend get ripped in half after trying to save her, not saying he was happy but he stood by butcher
Honestly, here's an idea i would love to happen in the last season. Instead of homelander being killed, perhaps the boys instead could depower homelander and turn him into what he hates the most, being human.

I kinda disagree on sister sage. I feel she is a highly intelligent character written by unintelligent people because their view on “intelligence” is just magically knowing things. It’s not even like she has any framework to guess the stuff she “knows”, it feels more like she comically takes credit for knowing things she had no context to predict or have knowledge of. It’s like a player who metagames in d&d and then says “I have high intelligence so therefore I could have figured it out”
Finally I find someone else saying this ! Honestly, with how she was written I believe that mind-reading would've been a more appropriate power. Just having a bunch of books in her apartment, but seemingly never referencing or directly applying any of it, isn't a showcase of her intelligence
What you just described is the biggest flaw of the entire show. The script says she’s intelligent but she never once acted intelligent. On the contrary, she acts like someone with a bellow average IQ. The show tells us she’s intelligent but it never shows us, all it shows us is that she magically knows things without any intelligence or thought that led to her knowing anything.
It felt so weird. Like remove all characters and labels, a character has a relationship with another character he DEEPLY deeply hurt in the past, say murdering their entire family, and then he meets them later and falls for them. They are intimate once and the guilt is literally eating him alive “oh well guess I’ll do it 3 more times” 🙄 if being around someone makes you feel THAT bad you’re gonna avoid them and not fall back into bed with them.
the last 2 episodes was pure The boys moment. It kinda feels like first few episodes was during the writer strike then the last 2 was when the old writers returned.
@@elibonham4388 I feel like someone at Amazon told the shower runner to wrap this shit up 😂 that’s why we’re only getting 5 seasons when I’m pretty sure the writer wanted to do 7 seasons
The problem with characters like Sage who are “the smartest person in the world” is that cliche scene that is inevitable. The one where they seem to get out maneuvered and then, oh, twist, it was, “Apart of their plan all along.” That is predictable af
The biggest problem with having “the smartest person in the world” is they the character can only ever be as intelligent as the writer. Almost everytime the “smartest” character will make really dumb choices because of plot.
i didnt expect it at all, and neither was the fandom, i was seeing conversations everywhere about how dumb everything sage was doing and how it was so obviously leading to her failure. im pretty sure that the writers introduced her to the show knowing exactly how to take her out, you have to do it that way when you write characters so powerful
7:39 a big part of starlights caharcter is what she notices. she is very observant. she noticed mm's ocd when no one else had, she noticed frenchie's mental state at the farm, etc. however, she had stopped noticing things when it comes to hughie this season and I find it very interesting.
probably because she was held prisoner for days. this season tried to have her go through some major self reflection after she was outed for her abortion, and her self deprecation from that is what i assume made her blow up on hughie for being raped, as fucked up as that is. it’s less that she was upset about getting cheated on and more that she feels like she isn’t good enough for him in my opinion. that would’ve been understandable to me if they hadn’t concluded her and hughie’s rough patch with her forgiving him(???), as if he was ever in the wrong for having sex with who he thought was his girlfriend.

You are all ignoring that Kimiko was specifically trained to not physically react to pain. She is a trained warrior. Shining Light put her through a lot, and there is a whole portion dedicated to showing why she doesn't scream in pain.
I loved that the "smartest person in the world" wasn't just a tech genius that can build gadgets and "hack" computers, but instead, she used her intelligence to manipulate people and events. Really cool and fresh take on what is usually just a tired cliche.
Gadgets and hacking is nice, but real power is collaborative. Weapons are meant to deter and destroy. Propaganda is a swiss army knife. You can inspire and lead friends AND weaken the enemy with this.
i really liked that, to a certain point, a point that sage went ahead, because more than malipulative and a genius, she seems to know the future, like weeks ahead, thats not cool for me
I still think they did a poor job of explaining how her powers actually work. It felt like a cop out and poor writing to just go “it was all part of my plan”. Okay? How though? How does her brain actually work. Is she clairvoyant? Does she have a photographic memory where she remembers everything she’s ever read?
@@CesarTorres-zk3ek Exactly. Everything is according to keikakku with her, I knew she was going to show back up at the end and go, "This is just how I planned it!" And she did.

Well, it was wrong of her to blame him. She got over it pretty quickly, so I feel like she was just angry and needed space for a minute to calm down, then realized she was wrong.
I feel like it would be reasonable for her to be emotional about it, it would still feel like a betrayal no matter how illogical it is because human emotions aren’t always logical.
I’m really glad you brought up the hughie stuff. That genuinely pissed me off… often times in media whenever a man is sexually assaulted it’s either played for laughs or it’s his fault… it’s just really bothers me man… not a great precedent to set.
The scene where Starlight rages at Huey for banging the Starlight copy, who by the way has all her memories and emotions, pissed me off so much. She gaslights him into thinking he did something wrong as if it was his fault. Not only that, but the writers make Huey, who was the victim, accept that and make him apologize. Honestly it says a ton about the writers’ views and toxic beliefs more than anything.
Yea I found this to be the most annoying thing I found about the episode. When starlight got SA’d it was taken seriously as it should be but Hughies is just meant to be funny for some reason
While I agree about the Hughie SA, Annie was kidnapped, had her identity stolen and locked in a room for 10 days. Of course she acted the way she did and she got back to her old self by the end of the episode. Doesn’t make either of them right or wrong, just a shitty situation for both.
I am literally so glad you wrote this because I was so frustrated about this exact same thing I ended up googling because I was so confused about what happened and why he just accepted her gaslighting, but I couldn’t find anything on Reddit so I was literally just scared that maybe I just had an unusual opinion on the subject, but definitely not.. It truly gave me some closure reading this.😂😂😂😂
One flaw in this season I feel like is they prioritize shock value too much. Obviously this season has never been afraid to show gratuitous violence and sexual content, but this season I almost feel like they prioritized it over the plot. Like with Tek Knights party, some of the way characters were killed, it felt needless sometimes.
I agree. For a good majority of this season, it felt like the writers came up with scenarios (the duplicating naked man fight, Ice Skating Rink scene, flying sheep, BDSM Batman, Annie Shapeshifter) and wrote around them to force them into the show rather than letting the plot dictate what scenarios the characters would end up in.
I felt the same way for season 4. Sex and violence was edgy and fun before, but suddenly it's like the main plot! It felt like a constant assault of gore and dicks. Thankfully, the final 10 minutes of the season brought me back or I may have been done with this show.
@@mp6640 Not really. None of the boys had a clue about Sage's plan and they were in a lose-lose situation either way without Butcher. Supe Butcher is their best shot at taking down Homelander since Solder Boy.
i can't belive Hughie dad actor, Simon Pegg, was the original Hughie in the Boys comics, like they draw hughie based on Pegg appearance, such a nice thing to have him in the show as his dad
I’m sure Garth Ennis, the creator of the comics, was banking on Simon Pegg to play Hughie in the originally planned trilogy of movies. I’m glad they waited for the right climate for the show and cast him as Hughie Sr.
Idk I feel like what hughie said at the end “in order to beat monsters we have to start being human” is the standpoint for this whole season, to build up to the finale where butcher crushes any idea of that infront of him even after bringing up Lenny to try and persuade him to work w numan, This whole season had so much bargaining and truces/deals. that builds up a good final season
Season 4 of The Boys to me was like side quest from a video game that the developer forced you to complete in order to progess to the main story even though those side quest have very little impact to the main story

**Spoiler** The reason his actions seems out of character, is because he isn't the same person. There is no more Butcher, the entire season was him dying inside his head and his body being controlled by the tumor. His eschizofrenia wife was the last bits of his own brain, but over time she would appear less and less, until she was gone, because he is gone. He is just a body controlled by the tumor.
It makes me sad, realizing that the last time you ever see him imagine his wife is when he's torturing the virus-maker and realizes both her and Wessler are just in his brain, like an angel and devil on your shoulder. After that, his brain is too late into the tumor stage and it is solely Wessler. But, it makes for a much much more interesting season 5 imo. I think butcher is still there, just fully embodied to kill all “bad” supes now.
His stepson he put hope into killing a close friend of him was the cause for this. Even before his disease he would tend to overreact and being unforgiving to others. his hallucinations surely make that worse but I don't think he is completely gone

I also viewed it as his past confronting him physically through the character collin and i found that to be really interesting. it really made u see how his former profession as a hitman has *seriously* affected his interpersonal relationships and how he views himself as a person. all in all, colin was well done from my pov as it allowed me to see frenchie with more nuance and witness how devastating his former profession really was to him and others.
@@chipotlesnumber1stan Thats fair. But in season 3 Frenchie and Kimiko were basically in a relationship and then right into season 4 they are platonic friends all of a sudden and now Frenchie is dating someone that we never even knew existed. The idea was good, but they executed it too late and it kind of just came off as an awkward “give a character something to do” plot point
I literally made the same point as you. why did they kiss and have a musical number together dancing around in previous seasons (in kimiko's hallucination) if she never liked him and he never liked her more than a friend? everyone was just coping because of bad shoehorned writing to drag out their romance when it was basically solidified by the end of season 3
I liked Sage a lot, but her whole story was too Sherlockian for my taste. I really dislike the whole “everything went exactly as I expected because I’m so smart and I can account for every piece of free will and random cosmic event harharhar!”
Jesse T. Usher should win an Emmy for his season 4 Facial Expressions alone, even when you put the rest of his acting and the character's story arc aside. It's been a real treat watching him grow as an actor over the course of this show, because he's really fantastic.

MM’s on the verge of a breakdown, Frenchie is a f*cking junkie, Huey is a gaping wet p*ssy, and the two supes on your side man for whatever reason you have a blind spot for them.” Frankly, Kessler showed restraint in his assessment because Starlight has also been insufferable this entire season. Kimiko and Butcher are still tolerable even with the “out of character” writing they’ve been subjected to at times for the sake of moving the plot forward.

I’m really excited to see the introduction of the characters from Gen V into The Boys with the cliffhanger. Next seasons gonna be really interesting how they tie in the two shows
A Train turning good was my favorite part of this season. I felt like in this season most of the characters couldn't get out of their own way. I also liked Sister Sage too.
You didn’t think they were gonna allow a black character to be irredeemable did you? He obviously was gonna turn good. Course all the white villains in the show are rapey and irredeemable.
Starlight being mad at Hughey for doing exactly what she did was initially revolting, but then thinking of what she's gone through... it's actually a great portrayal of insecurity and vulnerability. She's not thinking rationally, she's being a normal person who is hurt. I hated that initially, but I love it now.
I still hate it considering she never apologizes to Hughie for putting the blame on him. I’m okay with characters making mistakes, but she never acknowledges that she was wrong. She just makes a half-hearted joke about it and thats it
Starlight feeling angry is understandable what is NOT understandable is why hughie doesn't stand up for himself. Instead, he just apologizes to her which makes no sense
I think the problem here is that the narrative framing it in a way that favors her more than hughie. It's fine if they make Starlight hurt hughie, she is human, she makes mistakes. It's just that it feels like they downplay her mistake sorta. Because jeezus that was a scummy thing to say regardless if you yourself is a victim too or not.
the last 2 episodes of season 4 are incredible and possibly even my favourite of the show. They went for a very unique approach this season and it was very very good despite not being as fun as other seasons for the most part.
This season would honestly be anothet 5-10% higher if it didnt include any of the Hughie sexual assault scenes, or at least handled them way better, but according to Erik Cripke, these scenes were meant for laughs, which is really fucked up.
i thought it was handled decently well in universe, if you ignore the showrunner comments and just watched the show it wouldnt be as much of a problem. Kripke needs to stfu
On a train's redemption arc, I thought that every time he was on screen he was just fun to watch. I was invested in his story the whole time. Also, rest in peace Chance Perdomo, he carried Gen V and I'm not sure where they'll go without him.
holy shit this is the first time im hearing of this that he died. Just finished the show recently, he was one of my fav characters. fuck. that actaully sucks. great actor/guy.
A-Train was so boring. It has been shown that his greatest ambition is to sit on the porch drinking beer with his brother. Not to mention he actually killed lot of people for nothing
i dunno his Redemption felt forced. it was honestly crazy they trusted him for starters, Last time they did she ratted out to Homelander and got Supersonic killed.
@@AlanJ1993 I dunno the stuff with his own family and wanting to do right by them in previous seasons made it feel logical to me, the only people left in the seven are the actual psychopaths
@@theimpersonator7086 I think it was necessary to set up season 5. With just having season 3 and going to the final season I feel like it would feel rushed considering how season 4 ended and how the boys position has changed so much.
She had a pretty decent performance this season, especially with the double stuff. But, MAN, did her choice regarding her appearance get really distracting this season.
Starlight went from one of my favorite characters to being barely tolerable throughout seasons 3/4. Her powers have always been kind of lame, but that combined with her short-temperedness and intolerable attitude makes had me rooting for her demise. I actually laughed out loud when she yelled at Hughie for not being able to distinguish between her and an IDENTICAL lookalike who had access to ALL of her memories. (Edit) Here’s some more context on my take: Seasons 1 and 2 introduced a likable girl who was determined to do good in the world and refute the status quo, and someone who was challenged with spiritual and moral confliction despite her best efforts to do what was right. We saw less of that in season three as her personality began to vanish out of thin air, giving us as an audience less and less to root for and less and less to like. Season four made it worse by giving her a bad attitude, and after she lost her temper (completely out of character btw) and beat up firecracker on live television. It all went downhill from there. Those who argue that it’s “character development” don’t really understand what good character development is. Good writing might temporarily change a character’s attitude for the worse, but still retains some aspect of their personality that keeps the audience attached to them. If it doesn’t do this, it gives the audience another reason to want to stay on their side. Starlight’s shift in character included none of this, and that is why so many people dislike her.
why do you think she's intolerable? honest question she's always been one of my least favorite characters and a bit lame but she's a very sweet girlfriend and how her and hughie have treated eachother and how they've overcome difficulties together has been pretty good so "barely tolerable" is crazy to me
@@esteban4284I think she was unfair to Hughie over the whole shapeshifter thing, but other than that I’ve never really hated her. I think a lot of people just hate on her for no reason
Agree totally on the lack of danger this season, they even went so far as to bring up that Homelander has super smell and hearing just like tech knight or whatever the bdsm supe was called, but then how many people break into his room and steal stuff and he never seems to notice? Or even do something literally in the same building as him (Including GUNSHOTS UPSTAIRS IN THE SAME HOUSE) and he still doesn't notice? In season one he could find anyone in the same city as himself as long as they weren't in some isolation chamber with zinc or whatever mcguffin blocks his super senses
I still REALLY LIKED THIS season but I feel like it was mostly just TWO THINGS: 1. Providing further characterization and emotional subtext for the main characters 2. Setting all the narrative pieces on the board for the season finale and the final season
I absolutely hated Annie in S4. I'm glad you mentioned the SA part with hughie and the doppelganger cause that was by far the worst victim shaming I've seen In a while.
I think it was the fact Hughie ignored how depressed Annie’s been all season, and the shapeshifter was just all happy suddenly, which he should’ve picked up was weird behavior, if he had been paying attention to Annie. Still weird though I agree
@@Pufflez. I agree but also the entire boys team is running around upholding the US govt from being totally corrupted and destroyed so I can see some small stuff slipping thru the cracks. Like they literally have to fear for their lives because homelander could find them if he really wanted so when everything else is going crazy outside I don’t blame hughie for taking some comfort in his “gf” wanting to get freaky and not stress them out further by worrying about the future.
As someone who legit binge watched the entire 4 seasons this last week to catch up to the world, I can say Season 4 for me, felt more so of a “Who done it” type of series with trying to figure out who the mole was, also since I didn’t know I needed to watch GEN V directly after season 3 the whole Virus arc felt like it came out of no where
@@zaiz6018 Yes, that's not what the previous seasons felt like for me, this season felt like a clusterfuck of trying to over analyze everyone to figure out if they can potentially be the mole. I'm not saying a "who done it" theme or concept is bad at all, what I'm saying is after binge watching the entire series in a week, season 4 felt drastically different from what we were given the last 3 seasons. The last 3 seasons felt like you were watching Team A slowly, but mechanically take down Team B, while also facing some tough adversity along the way. While to me Season 4 felt like Team B letting Team A silently get closer up to them, all while they're trying to figure out where the leaks are coming from. Also like I mentioned in my comment, had I known previously that watching Gen V would clear some of that confusion up, I probably wouldn't feel this way, but that just happened to be the order I watched it in.
Honestly that scene where Ashley overhears that she was put on "the list" and straight up pumps herself with V to escape was tense and no one talks about it.
I was really excited to see what happened to her but it doesn't even show her again and then I forgot about her lol.
I feel like there was a lot of scenes that had these moments but they didn’t embark on them. Like Ryan after he killed Mallory.
It wasn't great. She should have left with A Train.
Yeah and the fact that it was the last time we saw her in that episode really opens the door for bigger things next season

It’s like a player who metagames in d&d and then says “I have high intelligence so therefore I could have figured it out”
She isn’t smart she just read the script
definitely agree, it was kinda ridiculous
Robot from The Invincible is x1000000 smarter and on the contrary, he shows why he's intelligent.
The whole Colin situation just showed they had no idea what to do with Frenchie and Kimiko. He just existed just to delay what we saw last season

The problem with characters like Sage who are “the smartest person in the world” is that cliche scene that is inevitable. The one where they seem to get out maneuvered and then, oh, twist, it was, “Apart of their plan all along.” That is predictable af
Especially when their super plan hinges on others making mistakes (like sage with homelander) which is at best a possibility that can't be controlled.
Peak Lelouch
The biggest problem with having “the smartest person in the world” is they the character can only ever be as intelligent as the writer.
Almost everytime the “smartest” character will make really dumb choices because of plot.
i didnt expect it at all, and neither was the fandom, i was seeing conversations everywhere about how dumb everything sage was doing and how it was so obviously leading to her failure. im pretty sure that the writers introduced her to the show knowing exactly how to take her out, you have to do it that way when you write characters so powerful
@@_Amit_Sunilnah lelouch did sum different

@@BenSolo4 Which is very. Healing factor is not the same as being imune to pain, just because someone can heal from anything doesn't mean they can't feel pain. @@pocoloco753 tbf suspension of disbelief does need to play a part lol. The show is about superheroes afterall. They're not gonna spend every other scene with kimiko screaming in agony cuz its just not necessary. Way easier to just pretend like 'she doesn't feel the pain as much cuz shes a supe'.
A character from bleach is like this but more in depth

The scene where Starlight rages at Huey for banging the Starlight copy, who by the way has all her memories and emotions, pissed me off so much.
The butt svcking human centipede. Like, seriously? Why?
@@gabrielkrows488 that human centipede butt sucking was so gross and pointless

My favorite part is he even calls him, "My wee Hughie" which is his nickname in the comics.

There is no more Butcher, the entire season was him dying inside his head and his body being controlled by the tumor.

Starlight being mad at Hughey for doing exactly what she did was initially revolting, but then thinking of what she's gone through... it's actually a great portrayal of insecurity and vulnerability. She's not thinking rationally, she's being a normal person who is hurt. I hated that initially, but I love it now.
I know right. I think something else people are overlooking is the fact they didn't drag out her anger either. It came and went relatively fast.
I still hate it considering she never apologizes to Hughie for putting the blame on him. I’m okay with characters making mistakes, but she never acknowledges that she was wrong. She just makes a half-hearted joke about it and thats it
Now learn to apply that to real people you encounter
Starlight feeling angry is understandable what is NOT understandable is why hughie doesn't stand up for himself. Instead, he just apologizes to her which makes no sense
I think the problem here is that the narrative framing it in a way that favors her more than hughie. It's fine if they make Starlight hurt hughie, she is human, she makes mistakes. It's just that it feels like they downplay her mistake sorta. Because jeezus that was a scummy thing to say regardless if you yourself is a victim too or not.

I feel you
Im not ready to putting her out of my favorite character list, I'm still in season 2😭
why do you think she's intolerable? honest question she's always been one of my least favorite characters and a bit lame but she's a very sweet girlfriend and how her and hughie have treated eachother and how they've overcome difficulties together has been pretty good so "barely tolerable" is crazy to me
@@esteban4284I think she was unfair to Hughie over the whole shapeshifter thing, but other than that I’ve never really hated her. I think a lot of people just hate on her for no reason
@@esteban4284 It's just one scene where she is rude to Hughie about having slept with the shapeshifter. Other than that, I thought she was fine
In season one he could find anyone in the same city as himself as long as they weren't in some isolation chamber with zinc or whatever mcguffin blocks his super senses
homelander says tek knight is weaker than him so i think tek knights powers are not to homelander’s scale

Man that scene was so sad man
That final scene was fucking cinema
@@aywun5782 and it was playing the best Nirvana song too 🔥
“To see if I could” when crazy 🔥
I still REALLY LIKED THIS season but I feel like it was mostly just TWO THINGS:
1. Providing further characterization and emotional subtext for the main characters
2. Setting all the narrative pieces on the board for the season finale and the final season
Only the last episode set the stage for the next season. The rest are fillers
Homelander killing thẻ scientists was gold
As someone who legit binge watched the entire 4 seasons this last week to catch up to the world, I can say Season 4 for me, felt more so of a “Who done it” type of series with trying to figure out who the mole was, also since I didn’t know I needed to watch GEN V directly after season 3 the whole Virus arc felt like it came out of no where
Ain’t the entire point of a “who done it” show that the audience doesn’t know who done it?
The audience does know who the mole is in this instance.
I loved when MM and hughie are talking about starlight being the shapeshifter and then she comes back🤣one of my favourite moments
😂 couldn't play it cool for shit
"Listen, Hughie... The FATE of the COUNTRY lies in our hands right now! So we just gotta play it cool unt- oh HeeEeEy Annie!!!"
I was cackling 😂😂
Season 4 was a mixed bag.
