I had several root canals and 2 teeth pulled, only to find out it had NOTHING to do with my teeth! I only know Hugh Laurie from House which I have seen every episode of, but he never spoke in his accent. I knew he was British just never heard him speak with the accent and have to say I was taken back a bit lol
Just got done with rewatching season 1-7 of House on Peacock. He did it for 8 seasons and I never had a clue. His ‘Midwest accent’ is clearly special as I never suspected he was actually British, except for his role in The Man in the Mask when he actually ‘didn’t’ speak in an accent. Now That’s impressive. Could any American actor pull off a Scouse or any British accent for 8 years without anyone being the wiser? He’s a national treasure.
In the fall of 1990, I was living in England. Hugh was in a 3-part series called "All Or Nothing At All". He definitely had the chops for drama. Actually, it has been said that a comedic actor would be better at doing drama than a dramatic actor would be at doing comedy. In comedy, it IS all in the timing.
Just a lovely, lovely man. Everything he does is pure gold. The only thing that’s wrong is that in being so fabulous he hasn’t been able to do another series with Stephen... Still cute as a button as well.
It was quite a shock to us Brits when Hugh Laurie became "Sexiest Man". Who? The one from Fry & Laurie and Blackadder? *That* Hugh Laurie - are you sure?!! After knowing only his comedy, which utilised his musical talents at times so we knew that, it really was surprising to see him morph so well into Dr House. With the beard hiding his comically talented chin and his well crafted ultra-Englishman dopey expressions covered with irascibility and sarcasm (that other side to the British personality). But he did make that leap very successfully - just goes to show kids, you never know what's coming up in the future for you! I still love a bit of Fry & Laurie, and Jeeves & Wooster .... well no one could ever do justice to PG Wodehouse's work better than those two.

He looks younger now than when he starred in House. He looks great.
he is rocking that full beard
I always wish more people talked about the film Peter's Friends. It's peak Fry/Laurie/Thompson/Staunton/Branagh for me.
One of my favourite films.
it's a great movie. he was also good in Sense and Sensibility
I wish I could binge Blackadder on Netflix.
Uses to be hulu. Idk if they've removed it
Now on Amazon Prime in the US
Yay!!! I love Hugh Laurie! Great interview!
Fun fact apparently unknown in the US: Mussolini never fulfilled his promise to run trains on time.
I like that Seth is well versed in British comedy. I'm saying this as a citizen of the US, but I feel like a lot of late night hosts don't really pay attention to non-US stuff.
@Marina E Pity indeed. Either you seek it out or not.
I only know Hugh Laurie from House which I have seen every episode of, but he never spoke in his accent. I knew he was British just never heard him speak with the accent and have to say I was taken back a bit lol
All he did in House was talk in an accent! this is him *without* putting on an accent ;)
Wooster and Jeeves introduced me to Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, P. G. Wodehouse, and Gypsy jazz, which led to Django Reinhardt.
Every comment here is quite correct, but is no-one going to mention he's a great musician as well?
He is fantastic in everything he does! Impressive!
Yes ,
Thank you for this . Love Hugh , great interview .
Hugh Laurie needs a knighthood
I'm not even English but I definitely agree!
I think Fry will get one first, purely for all the charity work around bullying etc. Laurie should definitely get a Brit Award for his music though.
I was about to write some comments about Mr. Laurie but this statement kind of took the wind off my sails. I could not write anything better.
@@markharrisllb as far as i recall Stephen fry turned down a knighthood a few times. Prince Charles offered him one and he doesn't want one.
True
No mention of Avenue 5 and a second season!!?? A very funny underrated show on HB. Hugh Laurie is brilliant! Highly recommend!
Just a lovely, lovely man. Everything he does is pure gold. The only thing that’s wrong is that in being so fabulous he hasn’t been able to do another series with Stephen...
Still cute as a button as well.
Seth's favorite Young Ones episode is called Bambi. Took me a few decades to realize it was Hugh Laurie in it!
Don’t miss Hugh Laurie in The Night Manager. He’s plenty plenty in this role. 😂
His doll face and those incredible eyes. And the overwhelming talent. What's not sexy about that?
One of my favourite actors! Such a wide range of talents. Brilliant actor, superb musician. This man can play amazing Blues. Do yourself a favour and watch his Let Them Talk - A Celebration of New Orleans Blues . Wonderful stuff...
Seth perhaps isn't aware that the Cambridge Footlights, the university review show, has been a route into comedy and show business since the 60s.
Truly. And it’s 'revue'!
Love Hugh Laurie. Still hoping House will make a return.
My heart couldn't take a House return without Wilson.
House wouldn't survive nowadays. Twitter would cancel him 2 episodes in. People are too sensitive for jokes.
@@lux3226 House saved Wilson. We just didn't see that part.
finally a quick hugh laurie interview that gets into his whole career and not just the latest thing.
what is that little door to Laurie's left? i loved Fry and Laurie in the ridiculous jeeves and wooster series. i don't think anyone else could have pulled that show off. they took their characters so honestly, perfect.
I prefer Hugh without the beard, but he looks quite good with it!
Jeeves and Wooster simply cannot be beaten
Que gusto me dio ver a Hugh Laurie, me encanto la entrevista, gracias.
Fry and Laurie was fantastic.
