Fabulous tutorial! I've been sewing for 63 years and have always been intimidated by rolled hemming. I bought a gorgeous, expensive dress and was determined to do the hem. I found a footer I've had for years and years and after watching your video twice I was actually able to do it! Thank you so very much for teaching an old dog a new trick.
The best video on this topic. The camera went in right there to show how to feed the fabric into the coil of the foot. And I loved the trick with the pin before starting to stitch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Your tip about keeping the fabric at the same angle as the scroll on the foot was the key for me. I practiced and finally got it right. Thanks for such a comprehensive tutorial. Kay
Wonderful! Finally an example of a real hem, using real slippery, fine fabric, with close up detail on the parts that are complicated. Now I feel like I can actually do this :)
Thank You so much! Last week I had to hem one granddaughters prom dress. I wanted to shoot myself. I was folding and pinning every inch. 306 pins. Then instead of doing the same for the underskirt I surged the edge and folded it under. Not beautiful but granddaughter was happy. Fast forward to yesterday. Now I have to hem 4 bridesmaids dresses for other granddaughters wedding. Last night I was on facebook and saw an ad for a rolled hem foot. I should get one of those. But then I remembered I had additional feet for my Juki. Ta Da. I watched your video 2 or 3 times. Tried it 4 or 5 times before I got the hang of it. I can't think you enough!
I've watched a bunch of videos and read my manual trying to figure out how to use the narrow hem foot and this was the first one that made sense and got me doing it right! I second what others have said -- that tip about holding the fabric at the angle of the foot is gold!
This is a game changer for me. Shortening my granddaughters Prom dress and although I have the rolled hem foot, I've never used. Your video was so much better than the others I watched as it showed how to start and end. Thank you. her dress is 4 layers with a wide circular skirt.
Oh my goodness! This is the first time I've seen the tip about keeping the edge of the fabric lined up at an angle to match the rolled edge on the front of the foot! Others have you holding the fabric up and to the left....but this is so much more logical and accurate. Thank you for showing how to end it as well. Everyone else just shows the example on a straight piece of fabric. Finally, I think I can actually sew a decent rolled hem!! Love it!!!!! :-)
Thank you! This is the best tutorial I have ever been given on how to used the rolled hem foot - and I've been sewing for 50 years :). Thank you again!
Great video! You have been the only person I have found to show the complete process; beginning, seams, and how to end. This really helps for some of us who try and try this process with less than acceptable results. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise.
Thank you so much for this video. Also, for your serge and coverstitch videos. I have watched many how-to videos, but yours by far are the most informative. I am no longer an anxious sewer. Thank you, again! (And I love your accent!)
Thank you!!!! I was really struggling with using a narrow hem foot and your video was perfect. I can now do narrow hems on chiffon and lining fabric etc etc
Thank you for this video. It’s the only one I’ve found that demonstrates how to sew a complete circle. Thank you for very clear directions and different camera angles.
I watched a few videos of rolled hems...your video is the best, clearest explanation. Well done! Now I hope my rolled hems look as good as your example!
Finally you are the only one who described how to start where to put the cloth under the hemmer foot, * you showed to roll it under the coil. Others just show to fold the edge of cloth then started to sew, missing the very important clue. Thank you very much.
Excellent all-round tutorial to get you started, finished and going over seams - with useful tips on how to feed the fabric. Most online tutorials on narrow hemmer feet skip at least some of those bits, which is sad because if you're doing hems with these feet you need to know them all. Well done!
Thank you - I've been trying so hard to sew 'perfect' rolled hems - your tip about holding the fabric at an angle is the missing piece of the jigsaw - thank you! Also it's very useful to see how to do it on a sewn garment.
Omg ive had this foot forever and i never quite understood how to use after several tries. I watched your video and i tried it again. It went so smooth! Thank you so much!
Great video! My mom always wanted to learn and lot of years has pass of her trying to learn to use this foot. Your video was the one, that make her learn it. She is so happy. Thank you very much.
Absolutely fantastic. I’ve watched a few other videos and I still couldn’t get the fabric into the groove of the foot. I used a pin and threaded the fabric through at an angle and hey it worked! Thank you
You are the first one I see is brave enough to sew across the seam allowance. Some say to trim that off first, but this will not look neat and its un uneven sight with those see trough fabrics. Great job! Also good tip to not backstitch but tie off in stead. I did see one lady that was able to start by just rocking her fabric back and forth a few times on the 'coil' of the foot, just lowered her foot and then started sewing. Came out perfect and less fussy then starting with a pin of fingerpress or thread tails or such. Now: practice, practice, practice!
This is EXTREMELY helpful! I just purchased this presser foot and tried several times to get the fabric to go through that 'funnel' with no success. You made it look so easy. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Thank you for such a straightforward explanation and well filmed demonstration… just what I needed as I could not get to grips with a rolled hem foot! Now I see what I need to do 🎉😊
You are the only one that has explained it properly thank you 🙏 also you showed it up close not at a distance I have a computerized machine and I was trying to figure out why it wasn’t working and I didn’t know the needle had to be in the center er position thank you 🙏 so much happy sewing 🧵
Am so glad I found this video on the rolled hem. I found all your tips quite useful ... I never knew how you need to tie the ends of your finished threads as you said to do. I also never knew how you should hold the fabric up at the "matching angle." TYSM for sharing these techniques with us.
I especially liked that you mention holding the fabric at the correct angle feeding into the foot. Also, enjoyed how to end stitching where you begin. Would you show how to do a corner of a scarf? Thanks.
This has been the most helpful rolled hem foot that I’ve come across! I can now get the fabric to roll. Now I just need lots and lots of practice! The fabric feeds perfect for a few inches and then it comes out of the curl. I’ll get it though! Thank you for this tutorial!
Oh what a great video from this tool, what I to my machine have!👍 Nobody had to show, hoow I shuold this smart adapter to use. Thank you very much for this gret help!❤🙏🌹 Greatings from Hungary! József
Fabulous, thank you so much for the key pts. Starting with the pin, lining up with the angle on the foot and finishing off with the fabric below the foot tucked in nicely. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much for an enormously helpful video. I’ve been trying to do this for more years than I care to remember and your tips have cleared up a lot of the problems, for which I’m grateful. Bless you.
You are great at teaching and this is an excellent video. After watching, I went and did it! You are better at finagling the fabric into the foot than me, but my hem looks great. The comment that stuck with me is; keep at it you'll get better. That's my goal. Thanks for the extra tips about the angle, and doing the seams.
Absolutely the best video, and the only person to show vividly how to do the rolled hem. I had two folks come to me with formal dresses needed the rolled hem, and I can tell you, they were not easy! I watched all kinds of videos, and did get it done, and by far yours is the best. Thank You!
THANK YOU! Sewing a rolled hem has always been a nightmare for me! Never before have I found a video that used a true to life example...meaning it's always been on flat scraps that I've seen demonstrated...not on a true hemline of a garment that is a continual circle. I feel I can now go to my machine and tackle the hem that is waiting for me. Again, THANK YOU!
Your videos are absolutely fantastic and so easy to follow even for an absolute novice like me. I haven't used a sewing machine since I was 14 and I turn 50 in a few weeks. Thank you thank you thank you! !!
What a great tutorial with the very helpful words of encouragement but more importantly the little tips that give someone like the right idea/concept to keep in mind while attempting this skill. The part of keeping the angle was something no explained to me in multiple other videos and was something I wondered about. That is a small touch that highlights why in my opinion you are so good at these tutorials
A very good video. It's the same for me... thank you for this video... Sorry for my English. I have a long dress to sew with a roll hem for a wedding of my friend and it was absolutely MAGIC and it was a FIRST TIME that I try it, I take my time and wow. I had about 16 foot of tissue to sew... Thank you so much! It was finish perfectly and professionnaly...
I am so glad I found you!! This is my first time using a different foot for my machine and I am hoping it saves so much time on certain projects I do that are basically all rolled hems. Off to give it a try now. :)
Why do i feel im the only guy watching this lol , great job 👍i have a vintage machine addiction and i get alot of feet with them and want to make a know how to use them , thank you
Thank you, what a wonderful tutorial! It's exactly what I was looking for. I love that you've shown how to start and finish a circular section of fabric. I've subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Fabulous tutorial! I've been sewing for 63 years and have always been intimidated by rolled hemming. I bought a gorgeous, expensive dress and was determined to do the hem. Me too, one old dog to another. Great teaching.
Kay
Finally managed to get a hem started, my mistake was not making the initial double fold to start. Now lots more practice :)
Wonderful! Finally an example of a real hem, using real slippery, fine fabric, with close up detail on the parts that are complicated. Now I feel like I can actually do this :)

I’ve watched several videos on using the hem foot. This is the only one that finally made me understand !! Thank you
Using a pin to pin the roll in place is genius! Thanks for the tips!
I've watched a bunch of videos and read my manual trying to figure out how to use the narrow hem foot and this was the first one that made sense and got me doing it right! I second what others have said -- that tip about holding the fabric at the angle of the foot is gold!

Rita M I agree! A lot of tutorials don't show going over the seam or ending.
Thank you so much for this video. Also, for your serge and coverstitch videos. I have watched many how-to videos, but yours by far are the most informative. I am no longer an anxious sewer. Thank you, again! (And I love your accent!)
I'am srilanka. Good vedio. Thank you so much. God bless you. 💖

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Putting that pin in at the beginning is sooooooo helpful. THANK YOU X

Beautiful. I’m a newbie and love your teaching tutorials.

Great video! Thank you for not ruining it with music-noise.
Omg ive had this foot forever and i never quite understood how to use after several tries. I watched your video and i tried it again. It went so smooth! Thank you so much!
Great demonstration. And my favorite fingernail polish color too. 😀
Great video! My mom always wanted to learn and lot of years has pass of her trying to learn to use this foot. Your video was the one, that make her learn it. She is so happy. Thank you very much.
Tq for this! Very clearly explained from start to finish. I struggle no more!! 👏👏👏👏💖

Love your tutorials so strait forward. Thank you.
Thank you. You make it so easy to sew.
So very good step by step instruction! Thanks!
You did it! You went over a seam without any problem! I have a $7,000.00 Janome, and I can't make it go over a seam with the rolled hem foot.
Same here.
