@@SofaKingQuick we don’t get any other N/A V8’s, sure it’s not as fast as the F82 M4 but it certainly sounds better and that smile you get is worth it everytime!
Glad to see somebody doing these comparisons, and not just jumping on the "new car is better" train just to sell parts, or because their channel lives off Ford. Nice video. I'd like to see the two cars race in a future video.
I don’t find anything objectionable with the S650, except I am probably too old to figure out the touch screens, but that’s my problem. My 2018 GT premium convertible, performance pack, 10 speed, magna ride , active exhaust, forged wheels is such a great car I don’t see anything in the new S650 that would make me want to trade in and cough up another $50,000. They are both great cars. And I LOVE MY 2018 !!!
I think the s650 looks good! Definitely something to get used to. In my opinion I think the s550 looks more aggressive (15-17). The 18-23 looks less aggressive
I agree 100%. With the 2018 refresh it lost some of its aggressive looks in fact the 2024 front end remind me more of the 15-17 front end and the hood reminds me of the 10-12 S197 hood.
I have a 2019, overall I favor that over the 2024, I have the electronic gauges and the larger screen, I prefer that over the newer setup. The only thing i favor over the 2019 would be the seats, although farily comfortable, they could be better
I was not aware of the switch to an electric parking brake as opposed to just the manual handle, that's annoying. I guess you gotta have the performance package to get a handle back. The black plastic rear lower valance is something that I guarantee you will not age well, because of how it is positioned higher up in more direct sunlight. If any of you guys remember the '10-12 rear lower valance that was also black plastic you know it only takes about 5 years in the sun for it to start losing its color and starting to look pretty bad. The '13-'23s didn't have to worry about that much with their body color, painted valances. Just something to note. And I really miss the dual cowls and analog buttons. To me the Mustang is a raw, driver's car by nature and I feel a small bit of that attitude is lost with so many touchscreens. Particularly the aircraft-looking toggle switches found on the premium S550, I think its fair to say most people really liked those, A touscreen interface is never a good replacement for a well put together button or trigger to me. If I am honest this interior refresh is the only one on a Mustang that ever felt like somewhat of a downgrade from the old one to me. It's still a great car, and a good interior, don't get me wrong. All that said to me the S650 is a hit, and I intend on buying one in a few years but I do miss a thing or two about past interiors.
Giving them credit for the absolute bare minimum is not the way. At the end of the day performance isn't better stock and its locked down. If you wanna mod it isn't the ideal car to get.
@@themidnighttavern6784no. It’s not faster. It’s “more powerful” you need to pay more attention to why they use certain words in marketing. Better handling is also doubtful due to an increase in weight. Don’t buy into bad marketing jargon man. There is a reason they said most powerful mustang and not fastest. The 2018+ already have better 0-60 times and better quarter mile times by quite a bit.

The 650 is growing on me, but I think appearance wise I still have to choose the 550. Maybe with some aftermarket changes to the headlights, taillights, and hood, I would give the 650 a chance
I got a good look at a HP dark horse, inside, underneath, pulled off panels, installed and the loose parts, It looks like a s550 remastered. I do feel it needs more hard controls. The steering controls are great but having to jump around the center screen for simple tasks...and the few buttons that are there feel like a old cheap membrane keyboard covered with one of those one piece rubber dust protectors. The over all styling is a bit Mach E with a splash of mustang II added for the interior. A few things seems off but it's a nice refresh. After putting miles on it, I could not tell a difference between it and a Mach 1 other than how the the steering wheel felt, mixed feels about it too. The few nice upgrades it has over the S550 are probably going to be near direct bolt-ons. If I had a base GT or a pp1 it's a nice upgrade with a refresh. Have a Shelby or Mach 1... Wait till this model gets a refresh.
Makes me very glad I bought a new base ‘22 this year! I hated the S650’s screens since the introduction, and I think exterior styling took a step back. Single exhaust on base cars?! And the slight power increase is negated by the weight gain. I’m a happy camper, even with a tiny 4” screen.
Justin, great review. I'm still waiting for my loaded 24 GT. Prem. I am not entirely sold on the dash yet but time will tell. Myself I am coming from a 2020GT and it will take some getting used to before I comment.
I think it’s cleaver how they’ve hidden the bumper inside the grill of the 650. In previous generations designers had to work around that bumper line, now they’re free to design whatever they want and I think they’ve done a great job.
I’ve owned a 2016 Challenger SRT 392 and a 2018 Widebody Hellcat Challenger. Both are gone and I currently own a 2017 Magnetic S550 which I’m in love with. Got it for a great price on low miles. Just put on a Corsa Sport exhaust.
18-23 hands down looks the best IMHO. I have an 18 and it’s a beast with just a few mods. A luxurious interior was not on my wish list when purchasing my car. But I do like the 24 and happy to see Ford is still keeping the pony in its corral.
I'll stick with my 2017 Gt premium pp. Just me but I think it has the best looking front and I like my gauge set up. I'm not against screens (center mounted and I wish mine was better) but they should integrate them better as opposed to making it look like they mounted an iPad. Up Rear lower valance looks terrible , tho, jutting out that far...
Nice comparison, the best one yet. AMR since you have both cars can you comment if the 650 has better NVH(quieter or same) and ride comfort than the 550? They are both nice cars. The S650 looks cleaner but less meaner...lol! I do like the double vents on the S550. The new tech is great and in keeping with the times, however that tacked on tablet look is a BUMMER; a new dual cowl dash design with the new tech would have nailed it IMHO. I like the new seats of the 650 base car. I have a 2018 which was paid off 2.5 years ago and it has 36,000 miles, it is tempting to trade it for a new one but NOT having car payments is a huge PLUS. So if you are. happy with your 550, have no car payments....hang on to it.
I still prefer the S197 over either of these, it has the old school feeling. Upgrade the suspension with Fords high performance suspension on a S197 and it turns it into a cornering beast.
Thinking about changing the rear sway bar on my 14 S197. For daily driving and ugly potholes do you know a good one? Most I see in American muscle is for track performance so I’m not sure
S197 was the last Mustang that kept the true American muscle proportions. The 10-14 S197 design is arguably the best of the late model Mustang designs. Only the New Edge Cobras and S550 GT350/GT500 can get into conversation without looking silly. The S550 overall is just a more generic, more Euro-styled car.
Great detailed helpful review. My opinion might well be biased as a 22 GT Premium 10spd with App Pgk and 401A added but the 24 is the farthest away from a Stang look as it can get. It looks bulky, heavy and too MOPAR looking. That front end reminds me of current Chargers, who needs another "Police" looking car on the streets? The interior with the 2 big screen doesn't look practical especially when one is on the road and need to change modes on the engine and steering wheel for ex. Also, that 60's interior gauges and colour cluster changes is one of the best thing Ford ever done for the last 2 gens, not having that in 24 is a negative. It's all subjective of course we all have our opinions but my god I love my 22 GT and the quad active exhaust. Cheers.
Just bought an S550 two weeks ago. New one’s not different enough to get raped by dealer mark ups! I got one used with 10k miles lowered and a $2k exhaust already installed. And tinted windows. Win!
Also just got a used s550-a certified pre-owned Mach 1 with 12k miles, warranty through 100k on the powertrain from Ford. I think the s550s look better, especially the back end.
I’m not a fan of the twin IMAX screens, losing the double bubble, & not feeling the new rear end. The 2018-23 GT premium with digital gauges, active exhaust, and a 2024 flat bottom steering wheel is where its at for me. With 10 speed for daily or manual if its a weekend only car.
@@FunkyBananaBear Are you 8 yrs old? Car and driver: “Without a doubt, the most dramatic difference between the new Mustang and prior versions is its interior. Gone is the classic "double bubble" dashboard design. Instead, the cockpit now contains a more driver-focused layout, one that's dominated by digital displays.”. It is ALSO mentioned on THIS AM comparison video. LOL.
I cringe when people say the 19-23 mustangs look good. Those are ugly in the front, they look like fish faced bass 😑. The new stangs are less agressive because its more square faced like the old mustangs😁
The thing I don’t see many reviewers talking about is the massive upgrade to the interior. Leaving aside the screens (which are a good thing), the build quality is the best I’ve ever seen in a Mustang, the cockpit feels significantly bigger, and visibility over the hood, which has been a big problem forever, is significantly improved. Visibility all around is much better, although the blind spots of a Mustang can never be fully eliminated. You can see the road much better than previous models. It is the most comfortable seating and ride I’ve ever felt from a Mustang. The exterior looks are a matter of opinion, but the 650 looks bigger and meaner, and the tail end, especially with the Performance raised spoiler, is extremely cool looking. The front end is more what I would call “playing it safe”. Not particularly great or particularly terrible. The 550 was more of a risk, more unusual, maybe more European, almost like an Audi, where the 650 looks more like an aggressive sports car. I’ve never seen the 550 as “aggressive” looking, it’s more blob-like, but in a sort of refined Euro luxury car way. Maybe like a Jaguar. Having driven both, all I can say is that the 650 can make you feel like you’re driving something too fast for the road, in a way the 550 never did. It has serious juice. Overall, there is no question the 650 is an upgrade. The only reasons to prefer the 550 are subjective visual taste. Vapor Blue is a lame color though, which doesn’t serve the 650 well in this video. Atlas Blue was good, but for some reason they got rid of it for 2025 to go back to Grabber Blue, which to me looks like a color for teenage girls.
If I could purchase my ‘06 GT Premium all over again… Hands down winner. I do not like the twin tablet dash. I’m a tech guy, but, I want analog gauges in my Mustang.
05-09 styling was on point with how a Mustang should look. Never cared much for these rounded looking ones ever since they debuted. Personally I’d fire the Ford design team.
I’ve had both and, by far, we love the 24. Admittedly we did get a high end premium car but with what we got in it we’re more pleased with the new S650. I do think that at $62,000 retail it should have had active exhaust and you would have thought they would have found a way to make the Recaro seats with power to them. The transmission is smoother in shifts and feels more natural as to the distance between shifts when not manually shifting it. The car has more sound insulation and isn’t as loud inside but still able to hear that great exhaust note inherent to the Ford Mustang GT.
Personally I prefer the base model small screen...I'm driving a car, not watching a movie, or playing a video game...to me the huge screens are an unnecessary distraction
I think they definitely took several steps back , the inside of the new one is terrible. Plus complicating everything with the two air boxes is just dumb . It’s not a bad car , but not for me , I’m very happy with my 2019 pp2 , hope all is good Justin 🤟
@cormaro1376 but it's Slower by 2 or 3 tenths so did it really give more power? It certainly didn't require twin TB that was just to make tuning harder...
@ShawnGilbert1967 no it didn't but was to help with aftermarket power for sure, it's just been bog down from the factory rn since it's just released , they will keep working on it and do updates and shit
@cormaro1376 even on whipples kit for it they go to 1 throttle body and split to 2 so the dual MAF sensors are happy...dual throttle bodies weren't remotely required for this power level or even 800hp..just a bigger single BUT they wanted to make it HARDER to modify and tune...every single thing on this car is designed to make it harder to modify while simultaneously make it slower than the previous gen with supposedly 20 less HP......but that's what happens with no competition but C8...just toss some Tesla screens in call it a day,.SAY we made more power but actually slower, then charge MORE for it.... Its nuts honestly
I’m in New Zealand and have owned many different V8s over the years including Chevrolet and Dodge, still a Mustang guy at heart and recently purchased a 2023 GTCS . Over here quite a reasonable number of muscle car owners only use these cars as weekenders, not their main transport. For that reason it will be interesting to see the uptake of the s650 because of what i see and have had feedback that it looks less of a connection to the original Mustangs, especially the dash set up and severe reverse angle rear end. I do however wish it well for continued future production😊
S650 looks great…but the lack of competition is obvious. Part of me is glad since I’m way too deep into my 2020 to consider trading it in but it’s still a pretty lame effort.
After having a '12 GT track s197, '18 GT s550, then going to put a deposit down on a '24 s650 then getting that deposit back after finding out so much about the s650....I'll stick to my s550. The interior is far superior in the s550. Exterior...well, nuff said. I thought I liked the s650 at first sight. Dropped a deposit down on it. Was getting ready to start returning my s550 to stock to hand it in. Then the videos started, and info started to flow. Got my deposit back a week later. Just so happened 3 other people that very same day before me came to get their deposits back too and 2 others earlier in the week lol.
The s650 grille with that gloss black lipstick is absolutely hideous. Idk who approved that gloss black nonsense. Also the added length makes the s650 look a bit weird. And the added weight is a real bummer. Really disappointing tbh. Ill stick with my 2015 GT for now.
I think the back of s650 is 🔥 fire. The angle of the lights is awesome the s550 Always seemed like a big booty to me, I hear the song “baby got back” play in my head every time I get behind one!!.. I do miss the quads exhaust, but you can change out the tips I’m thinking easy enough (I haven’t looked into this yet so if you can’t please don’t roast me in the replies lol). Over all I’m buying a 2024 gt this year, I been saving up and am glad I didn’t pull the trigger on the s550. Granted the s550 is still amazing, the s650 has enough of a change that I been hoping for! Loved the review Ty for breaking it down, and though we disagree on the baby got back, that’s the spice of life we all like different things and looks!
I have driven them both and own a 2023 Mustang GT Premium PP1. Well for the base cost jump of 10,000 does not play out for (Better) just a lot of Lights, bells , whistles , and video game feeling dash. I have the Staggered wheel setup from the PP1 so side by side the S550 looks meaner and bigger! salesman said, "I like yours better" 10,000 dollar base cost commands a more elite car and feelable power increase. I felt neither of those when on site, and instead of trading up I will use the 10,000 to MOD the hell out of my S550.End of Day, I WIN!
So the differences in rear end differentials seriously impacts 0-60 and performance overall? What are the different packages from cheapest to most expensive, for manual and automatic? Thanks!
Great comparison video. Wow, I gotta say, I really like the new exterior, except the hood vent. Not a fan of the interior tech ie the big screens. Look like taxi meters.
The 2020+ gt500 is the best out of the s550/s650 body styles that exist…best exterior, interior and best motor, it’s not even close…modern classic! I’ll be keeping mine for a very long time
The S550 is one the greatest Mustangs ever built. I just don’t feel it with the S650. I want Mustang to do well but they didn’t produce something that I want to buy. Maybe the next model will be for me. I’ll always keep my 2018 GT Premium 10R80 Shadow Black blacked out package with the digital dash.
Can’t believe I’m seeing a brand new mustang with dual exhaust and not quads 😂. They really wanted to go base on the base haha. Nothing will overcome that for me. You just can’t go backwards like that. The new mustang is cool but going backwards in any aspect just isn’t good even though I’d never get the base GT especially going from a pp2 it’s either gotta be a dark horse with the handling pack for me or nothing.
Obviously this is just my opinion, but the best looking, most iconic modern Mustangs are the '13s and '14s followed by the '15-'17s, followed by the '18-'23s...and now in last place we have the new 2024s. It's kind of funny how when you put the late model S550 right next to the new S650, the 550 looks like a freaking champ and I'd choose that 100 times out of 100 over the 650. I absolutely love my '14 GT with Brembos, 3.73 rear, and factory muffler delete (and Grabber Blue color), but after seeing these new '24s, I wouldn't mind buying an '18+ 550 Perf Pack before they're all modded and beat to death.
Everyone keeps talking about the "new high tech interior" - it is not, they literally slapped 2 screens to the dash and forgot all about the rest of the interior. The over all control panel is 20+ years old. The steering wheel is absolutely garbage, it reminds me of an early 2000s model, 2 stalks (really!!!), gigantic buttons! HEY WE GOT 2 BIG SCREENS! forget about all the other garbage.
Having owned both the S650 is definitely a better all round car, although the front end styling took a bit of getting used to. I'm in England and BHP down slightly but plenty quick enough and love the manual.
It may be a little Polarizing but Im glad it's still here, specially the V8 ("cough... Camaro and Hellcat). And I think the next GT500 is going to be insane...
The S650 is great in a lot of ways, BUT... the S550 is the sexier of the 2 cars. The curves of the S550 give it a better look, IMO, than the S650. It will be interesting to put the 2 on a track and see which one is quicker- base to base. Does the added weight offset the added HP in the 2024 or is it quicker? I'm also an old-school guy. The new stuff is nice, but the S550 is what I'd rather be driving.
As a mustang gt owner Ford flopped on this new gen coyote hard bro 😢 power went down plus it dosent feel nor look like a mustang they could’ve done better in my opinion I’ll stick to my s550 instead of dropping 70k for a less torquey car
I probably cant be called 100% neutral (owning a black 2019 Bullitt) but in my opinion the S550 is the better looking one of the two. I just love the “Bad ass” looks and the quad pipes, double boble dash, vented hood - everything actually 😀😎
I have a 2017 GT Premium and think the 2015-2017 are some of the best looking models,I especially love the big fog lights. Those screens are horrible and it's obvious they are getting ready to go electric which is pretty sad for a Mustang with no V8 roar
The rear end of the s650 just isn’t for me… it’s too angular I think. Also the massive screen on the dash isn’t as appealing to me. Still a great car, but I still intend to get a s550 within the next couple months
You can't go wrong with either one. Everyone will have their own preference. Just want to point out that you can get the active exhaust with the s650 base model. It'll cost you $1,225 and it will add 6 horsepower to your car.
That's what's so great about mustangs there's a body style for everyone and I believe I like them all well except maybe the sn95 well I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either
Have the S650 and it has been outstanding! That said, I also find the S550 to be just as aggressive. Guess my actual preference would be a 2023 Mach 1!
The only issue I see with the S650 manual was the parking break "button". I just test drove one today and it was weird pulling it up before starting. Weird.

This has been the best review yet. They drive similarly, but great job on explaining the sizes of these cars and getting them side by side.
Appreciate the kind words Michael! -Justin
They have RUINED The Mustang!!!!!
Glad to see somebody doing these comparisons, and not just jumping on the "new car is better" train just to sell parts, or because their channel lives off Ford. Nice video. I'd like to see the two cars race in a future video.
S650 is DOA, it'll lose by a car or more
Thanks fgj- we're trying to be as objective as possible here with the new car. -Justin
@@americanmuscleand we all appreciate that.
2013-2014 Mustang is what I would choose.
Especially that GT500 with the 5.8L engine 😎
I have a 2019, overall I favor that over the 2024, I have the electronic gauges and the larger screen, I prefer that over the newer setup. The only thing i favor over the 2019 would be the seats, although farily comfortable, they could be better
I have the same year and I feel the same
Same here, same exact thing,@@gotdamnjimi9758
My favorite thing on new S650 is the stand alone big brake package.
I do like that the 650 is something new to look at and I do like the rear but I feel like the 550 has stood the test of time with its design.
The 550 has definitely aged incredibly well! I still haven’t tired of looking at the 550 body!
I see so much S650 hate but can we just appreciate ford for keeping mustangs & the iconic 5.0 Alive.
Giving them credit for the absolute bare minimum is not the way. At the end of the day performance isn't better stock and its locked down. If you wanna mod it isn't the ideal car to get.
@@midnight347It's still an improvement, it's faster, better handling, better looking etc.
@@eliteghost0001 Motor trend recorded a 3.7 0-60 time on the s650 DH.
@@themidnighttavern6784 who has said anything about the dark horse???? Like what are you saying. Motor trend recorded a 4.3 for the s650 GT. The 650 is growing on me, but I think appearance wise I still have to choose the 550. Maybe with some aftermarket changes to the headlights, taillights, and hood, I would give the 650 a chance
Agreed!! Let’s see what the A/M industry does with this platform.

@@candy_paintCoping just fine with a better car
Justin, great review. I'm still waiting for my loaded 24 GT. Prem. I am not entirely sold on the dash yet but time will tell. Myself I am coming from a 2020GT and it will take some getting used to before I comment.
The s550 looks so much better it drives me crazy to see how manufacturers downgrade their cars so bad
Its just a facelift let's be real here. Ford loves doing this, feels like a SN95 to New edge all over again
Cool to see you back keep the awesome content coming 😂🎉
We'll keep it coming, for sure! Thanks for watching!! -Zach
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Up
Rear lower valance looks terrible , tho, jutting out that far...
Now this is the video we were waiting for! ❤
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Thank you so much, we're glad you enjoyed it! -Justin
Coming from a 2022 GT convertible, to a 2024 GT convertible, I think the S650 is much more refined.
It still has that antenna sticking up? 😆
@@YTholic2 I bought the stubby on Amazon
'15-17 s550 is still the best. Ford really went all out when they designed it for their 50 year Mustang anniversary

Cheers.
Thanks Justin for a HONEST review!! Keep the stock up on gen 1,2,3 parts. IMO the nicer mod friendly mustangs
My pleasure nitrous! -Justin
Wtf is this "double bubble" lol
Great points! Thanks for being honest about the new car.
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Old is better :D s197 and s550 are golden.
Not really complicating it just give it more power , I thought the dual air box was a good idea
Love my 2019 Velocity blue PP2
Love that you kept it real s550>
S550 all day. The S650 is heavier and slower. I’d much prefer S550
Heavier😂. By how much?
Am I the only one that love and will miss actual gauges?
I'm sure you and MANY other people will miss the anolog gauges! -Zach
@matt197gt - No, you are not the only one.
Apparently s550 is faster than s650 around a track too so... old is gold
...always disagreed with the 'it looks like a camaro' crowd. Nicely pointed out in this video.
S650 looks great…but the lack of competition is obvious. Part of me is glad since I’m way too deep into my 2020 to consider trading it in but it’s still a pretty lame effort.
Good point
The S650 looks great! Cant wait until ours arrive!

S550 all day
That lightning blue is always going to win.
i like both but the s650 looks more modern from the back from the front it still looks like a mustang in my opinion
The S650 locks really good but the improvement is not than big compare whit the increase price. I will keep my 2020 Mustang GT!
Thanks!
S550 interior looks so much better that the S650. Much more cohesive.
Great comparison video. Wow, I gotta say, I really like the new exterior, except the hood vent. Not a fan of the interior tech ie the big screens. Look like taxi meters.
Aww, maybe the hood vent isn't so bad, with the hood striping options.
I have a 22 301A GT and I'd say I prefer thst over the s650. I do like the seats and the wheel on the s650 though.
You can put both those in for cheap
I would take the S550.
From certain perspectives, the S650 looks way more aggressive. The big fail is no fog lights.
It's a nice refresh ☺️
Having owned both the S650 is definitely a better all round car, although the front end styling took a bit of getting used to. I'm in England and BHP down slightly but plenty quick enough and love the manual.
It may be a little Polarizing but Im glad it's still here, specially the V8 ("cough... Camaro and Hellcat).
And I think the next GT500 is going to be insane...
Love it, that pissed off look!
Nice to see you Justin!
The S550 looks way better to me. The cockpit is better as well. About the only thing I like on the 560 is what most people don't like, the taillights.
The 15-17 GT front ends *definitely* look better than the 18-23 GT front ends
The rear end of the s650 just isn’t for me… it’s too angular I think. Also the massive screen on the dash isn’t as appealing to me. Still a great car, but I still intend to get a s550 within the next couple months
Nothing beats the looks of 15-17 Mustang! They’re by far the best, followed closely by 13-14.
Modern day classics at this point! -Zach
With the height difference, can you tell a reasonable difference in head room for rear passengers or no?
I don't think so, were only talking a couple of inches, if that. -Justin
You can't go wrong with either one. Everyone will have their own preference. Just want to point out that you can get the active exhaust with the s650 base model. It'll cost you $1,225 and it will add 6 horsepower to your car.
I was saving to buy the new model but i think the s550 looks better. But the new model has good upgrades too
That's what's so great about mustangs there's a body style for everyone and I believe I like them all well except maybe the sn95 well I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either
Design wise the S550 imo has more of a timeless design, which still looks good af.
Why are there more stampings to the rear decklid? The old is smooth continuous metal on top, but the new has two pieces (with gap in between).
I’m not trading in my 2023 s550 anytime soon. The s550 just looks better all the way around.
Have the S650 and it has been outstanding!
That said, I also find the S550 to be just as aggressive.
Guess my actual preference would be a 2023 Mach 1!
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Justin we need a race between each other 0-60 and 1/4
Putting my order in for a 2024 soon 😎
The only issue I see with the S650 manual was the parking break "button". I just test drove one today and it was weird pulling it up before starting. Weird.

13-14 looks better imo
