6:07 Before you even use it try dry lubricating(the lubricant won't gather grime) it. That protects and makes it extend and retract better. You can turn it on edge instead of on the flat when extending/retracting it too. That allows for less drag over a smaller surface area. Before cutting a limb, try to score the underside of the limb with the saw so the limb will not strip the bark as it falls. You can leave the handle fully adjusted out if you wear gloves. That allows you to just wrap the rope around your hand and pull at any length. Lastly, no matter what kind of rope you have, rub wax into it to protect it from weather(mold) and dragging on limbs. Hope these tips help you out.

just got one...... it takes a little skill n patience....and it is dainty and its not made of hi test steel..... but if u finesse it and don't get frustrated it works great... the alternative is a chainsaw on a stick which is stupid dangerous for most of us..... i went from wanting a 17ft sthil gas model, to a greenworks 60 volt electric model, both over 300 bucks not counting the special gas situation etc.... this hand model was 95$ and u won't kill urself ........ ps: props to the camera operator :)

I have this exact saw. 16 foot PUPPY. Very easy to use but I'm here to learn rope management. My rope keeps getting in the way everywhere so I must be doing something wrong with it. Nice to know you can wrap the rope around the pull handle itself!

Always make 2 cuts with a saw to prevent the bark tearing where you make the final cut. Make the first cut away from the trunk to take off all the weight and the second close to the trunk, but not too close because you need to leave the collar or it won't heal over. Otherwise disease make get into the tear

Good video. I've had my Fiskars 16' pole saw for several years and used it maybe a 1/2 dozen times, yet I learned quite a bit from your video. Demonstrating how to shorten the pruner-rope was very helpful and so was removing the blade to prune. Thanks much!

This is a considerably older model they are reviewing. The new ones are ropeless. The weight of this unit ,as shown on the scales in the video, is 4 pounds 14.5 ounces making it almost 5 pounds. The puppy banter is heartfelt, and on the edge. This video is fun to watch and there are more instructional videos from the manufacture and other third parties that have much better details on how to use this product.

The ones without the rope don't extend as long and aren't as good. Would not recommend that junk at all. This model is not that old.

Awesome Video! I think it's wonderful that Fiskars sells a "16 ft pole saw/pruner" which is actually 16 ft long! So many of these say something like "reach up to 16 ft", but in the fine print, it's 10 or 12 ft long, assuming your reach will make up the difference.

  • @jacquelinechemy5460

Just bought one today, and quickly noticed too there needs to be a protective shield for safety storage. I just retreat the extender, and put the sawing blade to a neutral position for non use storage. Also I placed the head or top piece into a thicker pillow case and used a bungy cord to secure the pillow case closed. I recommend to lay flat near a wall opposed to standing up until you are ready to use. I did review couple of videos first before actually cutting and trimming.
I am excited to use but always wearing a hard hat, safety goggles, grip type gloves, safety boots or safety shoes, lone sleeve shirt, and long pants. As well as watching the weather conditions for wind, rain, hail or lightening. Then finally I will do an observation of the scene of the trees and/hedges no that I will be cutting making sure no power lines are in the way and children or animals are near me or us.
Until the weekend for my official usage of Fiskars 16Foot Chain Drive Extendable Pole Saw & Pruner! Have a great week everyone!

When doing difficult sawing while FULLY extended at 16 ft, the poles came apart a couple of times. It could just have been me securing it improperly, not sure. The poles went back together easily, so it is not broken or defective.

    • @kurtreber9813
      @kurtreber9813 3 роки тому

      Ok, some additional:
      1) Definitely use the black handle to tie the rope, as indicated in the video.
      2) Notice the unique curve of that blade. You need very little actual pressure to cut. With that curve, just push and pull and be patient.
2a) The elongated tip of the blade is very very useful for hooking onto branches and brush and pulling away.
      3) That nice blade could theoretically cut through a tree trunk.
      4) The pole extensions LOCK in place, and also held by friction clamps. Press the front of the appropriate orange tab while sliding pole in or out until it LOCKS.
      5) Storage: Yes a safety shield would be nice. But without it, I would store with the blade locked in place so it doesn't swing around when moving it. Just be careful
5a) Could the plastic packaging be used as a poor man's shield? I threw mine away too quickly.

The sole fact that holding the pole, it drains your energy. When cutting or sawing high branches it’s better to rest the pole on a lower branch to save energy if this is possible.

I just bought the same brand that Costco and it is different than that one. It has a more conventional cutting system it doesn't have that chain. Also it looks like yours has a lot more plastic in some places that should not be plastic. Instead of having that square plastic peg that helps hold the saw in place this newer one has just a metal peg that sticks out and keeps the saw blade from moving. My pulleys are plastic and the adjustments for lengthening it our plastic everything else is metal on the Costco model. The fiberglass handle is the same on the Costco model.

I just received notice from Fiskars that these "puppies" have been recalled. According to Fiskars: "In very rare circumstances the pole/pruner can separate, causing the poles to come apart and fall down and the saw blade and pruner head to drop, posing a laceration hazard."
Fiskars said that they will give me a gift card once I destroy it according to their instructions and send them a picture of the destroyed pruner. It looks to me that it's only going to happen if the user doesn't use common sense, including the removal of the saw blade when not being used, and I can't find anything as long or as effective as this tool has been for me. I haven't decided if I'm going to destroy it & take their gift card or just keep it. Let me know if you want me to post the recall link.

I had to use a socket wrench to loosen the wing nut at the blade (A blade that locks into a rectangle of PLASTIC ). Then found out that pulling the rope for the lopper meant zero retraction of the cutting blade... have to open the blade manually after every pull of the rope.
Imo not worth the $100+ price tag.
