Love the fact you have old worn in tools, and not Festool everything, like every other woodworker has on UA-cam. I'm a Joiner/ Cabinet/furniture maker and appreciate the large amount of handwork you do, not cnc routered, you obviously know your stuff! Brilliant...
Thank you so much. What works well is not always popular, lol. It’s a therapeutic process and I like the extra quality control I can give by doing it this way.
Watching an artist take raw materials and work them into a piece of art is an entertaining process. You doing that to an engineered piece of art, that is a functional part of an airplane ✈️ elevates what you are creating well beyond that. Thank you for producing videos that are a pleasure to watch.

The last video I saw from another company in the states, they used a cnc and as I was scrubbing through I see they mentioned sanding on a drum sander 2 hrs later...incredible, even the labor intensive stuff is done by hand... Thats the kind of stuff Im willing to pay extra for
WOW….fabulous work. As an old Air Force Prop Mechanic, I was amazed at your technique of building props out of wood. I pass through Rolla on occasion and would love to see your shop. Please let me know if you give tours!
Im gonna be hypoxic by the time l finish watching you finish on that bandsaw! At first l was like "Well that looks simple enough". Then you tilted it on it's side and just started freehanding/eyeballing those blends. Then l realized l hadn't breathed in about a minute and a half!
I love the way straight grain maple gives you the guides for shaping a smooth radius and taper on a piece. The Guitar necks I make usually are so close as to only need slight profile adjustments for individual feel. Nice work as always. Take care
I just needed to reach out and say this ; Hear is the thing, I have no interest in Planes as such, unless its a Spitfire!!, I can not fly, And half the time when your mentioning names and numbers of planes your Props are going to be fitted on too, Its like wooosh, right over the top of my head. However..... How I came upon your Channel is still a mystery to me, But the thing is I look forward so much to your content and explanations, I find it strangely satisfying and soothing to watch you work your magic and your skill levels are off the charts. It relaxes me, And for that I just wanted to thank you. There are very few things that can relax me the way you are able to do while watching you turn lumps of wood into works of art. THANK YOU. Take care and Stay safe. Love and Respect from North London UK.
What you do is what the EAA is supposed to be all about. I wish they'd return more to their roots with promoting experimentation, fabrication, engineering, design, etc. more. Seeking out various industry experts to help put together more books on all aspects of aeronautical engineering, research, latest ideas, etc. But it's good to see people recognizing and showcasing the work you do.
Thanks for sharing. What a pleasurable UA-cam rabbit hole. Popped up on my home page, I assume because of my interest in wood working videos, but I have never seen a wooden propeller made. Unique trade and craftsmanship.
i used to carve my own model airplane props because i had no money to buy them after they broke. brings back memories. you need to give 3m mesh paper a try.
This is great and all, but it would be nice if someone would do a video on how to make a variable-pitch propeller. I understand those are more complicated to construct, but I know it can be done.
Nice work. I've made hundreds of props, all of them for model aircraft use for competition models, mostly for racing. Many of them were molded but some were carved from solid like in the vid. For the racing models I not only balanced the props for 15,000 rpm but I also matched the pitch distribution along the length of each blade.
when you added that post-it, and the prop stopped...my jaw dropped. jimmy's world just did a How It's Made for wooden props, and the people in the comments were talking about you, so i decided to check it out. so cool. subscribed!
I'm watching from far away from Japan, a propeller that is very beautiful whenever I see it, I want to make such a propeller someday, oh! It's a great job, even though it doesn't have an aircraft.
I worked in an Eaton owned facility in New York one time and couldn’t figure out why the entire floor was made out of small 4x4 blocks of wood placed vertically in the floor. When I asked why I was told that they made P-38 propellers there during WWII, and the wood floor saved props that were inadvertently dropped.
You make it look sooooo easy but this is because of extensive experience and unmatched craftswomanship. Your hand eye coordination on the bandsaw is incredible. Have you ever had a finger in the wrong place at the wrong time? I hope not.
you are amazing, the great skill you have, i love your videos, you dont make them everyday [ this is what makes them so good ] and your music choices are great, not loud or annoying. thank you so much for the effort you put into the videos tell how you do it
I've carved model props and touched up varnished props but a full prop in my life? But I do have a Kliptip McCauley. I just got a Michigan Wheel Sailer bronze prop. Yes, boat bronze props are hand made, but not to that perfection. I'll touch it up a little.
Culver drive - thru order : I'll take a Sprite, small fries, and a round tipped high altitude swept back prop with extra varnish layers. Will I have to wait long ?
Hi Alaina i am Johan from South Africa and is learning how props work. I looked at your different props and want to know what is a prop on a direct drive i know how vw beetle engines work. Is the prop direct on the crack shaft with direct drive? Then i saw the plane back yard flyer with the vw beetle engine 2333 cc with a big prop and on a reduction drive pulley system. Is that prop a 92 inch prop or 74 inch prop? Then what size prop will you put on a 1600 vw beetle engine to cruise? And what size prop will you put on a 2 liter cc vw engine for quick takeoff and landing? Is it possible to buy a reduction drive pulley system from you guys i know the valley engineering is not building anymore planes or engines. I also want to tell you i am very impressed with your skills love your work i am also a carpenter build hunting bows i admire your work love it. Have a blessed day from South Africa Johan.
I always thought propellers were manufactured under strict guidelines and instrumentation so all the curves and angles are exactly the same which is why they are balanced.....no just the hand and eye coordination of an artist that has waaaay to much patience for a human being.
To balance these props, next time put two sealed bearings in the prop and then put an axle into the inner diameter. The friction of wood against the axle as you are doing now will be eliminated, you can get very slippery sealed bearings, these are only for balancing and can be easily installed and removed.
So is the shape of the blade- that is, the general form and not the airfoil cross section- is that chosen because of tradition or os it more efficient? I could honestly see it being either, I know that many traditional wooden propellers were actually quite efficient.
My, such pretty hands you have -- pretty dusty🤣😂 (I just quack myself up 🦆🦆) Alaina -- you talked in front of the camera! thank you, see its not really a monster📸! I really love it when you go on camera and explain what you are going to do. You are such an incredible craftsman(woman). You work magic with wood. I only got confused once, then your mouth was saying that balancing is your favorite part, but your eyes and head were saying "NOT". I just can not believe how bad it was out of balance, I mean, 1 - 3x3" post-it 12" from the hub. I have to say that my jaw hit the keyboard when you did that. Dern near perfect. Another beautiful piece of art done by a nice-looking lady (I can't say, beautiful lady, as someone in the comments will make some smart donkey comment -- however, we all know the truth). Congratulations on being selected to create the display prop for Air Venture 🤩🤩🥳✨😻. So be honest, how many times have you bounced a landing?

Yeah I think sculpting is almost like an art.

Your free hand maching skills are pure craftsmanship....brilliant ..
I truly appreciate the band saw skills. The balancing act (literally) is mystifying. She knows exactly what needs attention.
I was expecting a cnc operation yet this was hand carved on a band saw and drum sander, I'm astonished. So good. God bless
Thank you!
The last video I saw from another company in the states, they used a cnc and as I was scrubbing through I see they mentioned sanding on a drum sander 2 hrs later...incredible, even the labor intensive stuff is done by hand... Thats the kind of stuff Im willing to pay extra for
The prettiest and most skilled prop builder there is.
As always another masterpiece!! Well done Alaina!
My prop build lady back at it again. I would like to see it after it's stained and sealed. Love your work.
WOW….fabulous work. As an old Air Force Prop Mechanic, I was amazed at your technique of building props out of wood. I pass through Rolla on occasion and would love to see your shop. Please let me know if you give tours!
My paternal grandfather hand carved propellers for British WW1 aircraft, I have his spoke shaves in my workshop.

Lol!! Thank you! The bandsaw is one of my favorite parts
Nice to see craftsperson doing work the old fashioned way, hands on. If I could afford it I would buy one of your propellers just to hang on my wall.
Thank you, Alaina great job Would love to see one completely finished and ready to fit to the aircraft.👍👍
This is a fine example of making something very difficult look easy..
Just started watching your excellant talents again, beautiful. Keep on smiling.
I love the way straight grain maple gives you the guides for shaping a smooth radius and taper on a piece.
The Guitar necks I make usually are so close as to only need slight profile adjustments for individual feel.
Nice work as always.
Take care
Thank you!
That was great. You are really good with the saw and sanding. Bravo👍

No rings on your hands. Good safety planning. The maple and mahogany really pop. Thanks

Thank you! Aviation is a broad area.
That prop looks awesome with the two woods. You are a beast on the bandsaw by the way. I give you props lol
Thank you! Lol
Just watching this is therapeutic. Can’t imagine having the talent to make something so functional and pretty.
You are like a surgeon with that bandsaw!!! Amazing work!
That's great. 👍 Congratulations!
I love these full length videos. :))
You have many talents and skills, but wow, you are an ACE on that bandsaw!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. What a pleasurable UA-cam rabbit hole. Popped up on my home page, I assume because of my interest in wood working videos, but I have never seen a wooden propeller made. Unique trade and craftsmanship.
All your Props look so fantastic. You are so talented.
Wow came across your videos and thought I would love to replace my boring ceiling fan with one of these pieces of art. Amazing 😮
What a gorgeous prop!
Thanks again for sharing what you do! absolutely amazing!
2 mins in your freehand bandsaw angle cuts curled my toes you ran it so close, but so accurate. Best woodwork I've seen.
You are very talented. Your work is truly an art.
Oh man! I was hoping to see it with varnish. That two tone looks great.
Very nice I always find sanding very therapeutic and satisfying once you apply the top coat
Yes
As pretty as the lady! 🤩 I really enjoyed the cheese slicing at the hub with the bandsaw!🤗
Beautiful ! With graceful face and clever skill!
I really love curves crafted in wood. its so beautiful compared to angles. I dont know anything about airplane props.
clearly. 😂
Brilliant! What a fine result. The hands of a master maker. Thank you for sharing.
Jerry Rosa sent me. Beautiful work.
Thank you. Jerry is a good family friend. 😊
What a awesome job keep up the great videos.

You do amazing work very impressive 👌So enjoyable to watch ! I love airplanes
You're amazing on the bandsaw. I had a gulp at first watching you cut out the hub area . Your gramps has to be very proud of you as he watches on
Thank you! Sometimes I make myself gulp. Lol I always worry I have cut too deep
Being a watchmaker I am impressed with your workmanship and wish to join your workshop. Thank you.
Awesome job. Beautiful propeller
That is a beautiful prop
What an artist.....If I ever get my ultralight it will have your Culver prop.
Looking awesome Alaina !
What a doll. I could watch you for a life time!

She TRULY TRULY loves her ART!
WONDERFUL !
You make it look so Easy, I dread to think what it would look like if I tried it.
Your freehand skills with the bandsaw are amazing!
Nice workwomenship:)
Try getting and oscillating drum sander. It moves up and down a bit .it will save you time and sand paper.

OUTSTANDING WORKMANSHIP!!!
Anybody with sufficient training can operate a cnc machine. Hand finishing requires an artist's touch.
Thank you!
A true artisan. This lady is amazing.
Magnifique travail ! Une Hélice Bois faite à la main !👏👏👏🌹🌹

Good stuff!! Thx for keeping the world company. It's a lonely planet!
Very impressive, mad skills on the band saw. Only tool in 50 years of every day wood working that bit me!
It can sure get you quick
Yes It can, by the way Jerry Rosa is the one that told me about you
I would love to have one like that with a clock in it

Isso não se trata de uma hélice mas sim de uma obra-de-arte! Parabéns!!!
Absolutely perfect!
Real Nice work, for what it is worth, you have my vote of confidence .
You make it look easy! Not fair!
Seu trabalho e muito interessante que madeira vc usar

Wow , absolutely beautiful , and that propeller you made propeller aint hard to look at either ...
Appreciate your craftsmanship 👏👏👏. May I know which tree's wood you used ?
Maple and mahogany

Vacum suction very important in wood working otherwise all over place dust and smoke
absolutely beautiful propeller
Are there aircraft drawings you work to? Seams like an important part to fab from an old templet hanging on the wall by a nail.
Nope

Lol! Mine are not certified, some props are made the way you described 😁 and thank you!
I think youare great howevery you need to upload your videos in 16x9 format. I make carbonfibre propellers for model airplanes.

Not too bad, right now anyway
Super cool i like your work
Love your work.
It would be great if you could show the process from start to finish.
I have a few on that
So is the shape of the blade- that is, the general form and not the airfoil cross section- is that chosen because of tradition or os it more efficient? I could honestly see it being either, I know that many traditional wooden propellers were actually quite efficient.
I take into account the customers needs and the whole airplane power plant combo and what would go best.
