I specifically watched this to see Kendra James rant about olympic figure skating coverage, and I am so relieved to hear someone in media talking critically about the NBC coverage. Thank you for placing focus on the experience of the young teenagers, and how adults often fail to see them as people. It was so refreshing to see and we all need to think more through this lens. I want to see all of the coverage with Kendra's commentary 💜

Thank you, Kendra, for talking about what no one commenting on Olympic Figure Skating is willing to touch with a very long pole. I am disgusted and unfortunately, the skaters themselves will be blamed. Also, thank you for the shout-out to my favorite skater (been following him since he was a kid), Jason Brown! The man is, wait for it, overused adjective phrase: poetry in motion. I have great respect for Nathan Chen, but as noted many times by those who know skating, what Jason Brown does is more difficult than a quad. That's my own personal rant. Love the show.

I will have to check that skater out, because I just saw Nathan Chen’s “rocket man” routine and he made it look so effortless. Given the music was obviously designed and timed for his routine, he was still working hard. So I’m sure I will be impressed by Jason.

The problem is all the atrocities are open secrets. Like Nassar with Gymnasts, the people in charge are complicit. At least he finally faced some consequences. In Russia I assume this coach will be revered.

Just a correction on the triple axel comment, Mirai Nagasu was NOT the first women to land a 3A at the olympics she was the first American women... Midori Ito of Japan was the first and Mao Asada of Japan was the second, Mirai the third. Not to say it's not an incredible accomplishment but the American media during the 2018 games made it seem like she was the first when she was not and can't have the erasure of the Japanese women!!!

THANK YOU for bringing this up and bringing up the abuse these girls are undergoing for our entertainment. And bringing up that she, as a 15 year old, isn’t acquiring the drugs herself. I was watching the olympics with family and a family member was so disappointed in the skater, and I didn’t know about the Russian coach’s issues at the time, but I immediately thought “it’s not her - it’s her coach. She’s a CHILD”. I’ve since researched and yuuuuuup…coach is a piece of WORK

I am just watching the German TV program ARD covering the Olympics talking about exactly what Kendra ranted about. About the doping, the eating disorders. Mostly the trainer. The quads. The low ages. They are arguing to heighten the competing age to 18. Really interesting and really condemning for the Russian Olympic Committee.

I completely agree about the quads & have been saying the same for a long time. My eye certainly does not appreciate a quad over a triple enough to sacrifice artistry or health for it.

I did actually see nbc cover the 15 year old testing positive for that drug, and I suspected that her coach made her do it, but god there’s so much about the situation thats fucked up. You want to be supportive of a figure skater who has worked so hard their whole life for this moment, but also have to acknowledge that they are being abused and exploited to add to their country’s medal count.
On a lighter note, I agree that Jason Brown’s short program was absolutely beautiful, I loved his and Nathan’s short and free programs the most this year.

This is why we should do more than just ban Russia from using their name/flag/anthem!! Doping is fucking bad and hurts athletes and hurts all of sport and it's an absolute disgrace to not face that. I was a coach for a decade and feel super strongly about the responsibility coaches have in creating their sport's culture. With coaches like this you get sports where it's just normal to have eating disorders and life altering injuries. Synchro swimming is one that really damages a lot of athletes and causes eating disorders, cycling, etc. As coaches it's our job to always centre that winning doesn't fucking matter, the impact you have on your athletes and the people they become is what matters and what a coach should give a fuck about. UGH.

As a figure skating fan, I clicked this entirely for the rant on Olympic coverage expecting it to be about poor accessibility to the general public or something, and SURPRISE I GOT FULL RANT ON ETERI AS MOTHER GOTHEL. Bless you Kendra James.
Eteri's students or ex-students may deny and say it is their own choices to eat two shrimp or perform while injured or whatever but we are talking about MINORS being raised in this environment where a coach brags about the two shrimps on media like it's a sign of mental strength to not eat and they are in an environment where they are weighed multiple times a day and all food and water are tracked and, yeah, literal starvation is the method of achieving quads. Support for Kamila, down with Eteri.

I so appreciate knowing all this from Kendra. I feel like we could all see the quad thing growing yrs ago, and we (fans, not even experts) knew the powers that be should have stopped it way back. Watching lovely skaters fall down and still win golds seems entirely silly. To discover it’s now a machine that eats up young women is horrifying but not surprising. This is so sad and awful.

To be fair, quad jumps aren't killing figure skating, the ISU and their terrible scoring system is. If they actually judged the Russian women's jumps correctly as the underrotated messes they are, and gave them the low scores they actually deserve, Tutberidze wouldn't have a success career forcing young women to go through all that.

I work for a big German car manufacturer and there was a big debate about touch screens when they were first introduced. They has test drives with a lot of employees to hear their opinions. A friend of mine was helping run the study. The majority opinion was that drivers preferred tactical buttons especially fot the most used features during drivers. However, they wanted big screens for cameras, and to allow easier configuration. The idea they came up with was moving many tactical buttons to the steering wheel.

    • @pissedoffatyt

I don't do dresses... but also I've always wanted to go to the Magic Castle. There is a pants option that worked for me (also, it doesn't gender the clothing, but I didn't have a suit and they are very particular about the collar and tie). I was so worried my friend and his GF would get in and they'd tell me I'd have to stay in the car. My outfit was like one inch out of compliance so I hunched over so my tunic was long enough! All top tier athletics are incredibly harmful to the participants. We're hearing about these girls because they were also great. The number of athletes that go through that meat grinder just to be tossed back into the factories or rural villages etc etc is huge. Look up ex-gymnasts in China. People whose careers ended before they could start due to injury or reduced performance, are everywhere usually begging on the streets.
We do the same things in the US, it's just not as well structured and it's more profit driven so it's harder to disentangle from all our other messed up institutions. You better believe the US mens skating has nearly as much doping as these Russian girls.

WOW Lovetts Dog Looks exactly like my little Tough Nut Rescue, my Barney is 16 now and still going strong, bounces out for his 2 + hour walk, with my 7 year old Kelpie, here in Alice Springs NT, even when it reaches 37o Celsius by 7.00AM he has very little sight when he was sent to a mate, who had just lost her Dog and was moving to Tassie on small rural property with no fencing, had a young Golden Retriever, they would be going Swimming in Rivers, Beaches Camping also no one wants a Dog sent to them 4 Days after their 18 year old dog passes away.
The previous owners did not even ask her, before he was put on Plane to Alice, this was after spending 1st 10 years under a house being ignored in Darwin,
Others said would love to take him in, all thinking he was a Lap Dog and would easily chill as soon as took him home, this plan did not work, some changed mind when saw state he was in, he did not last longer than 2 Days, they were all realistic and honest, said did not have spare time to give him what he deserved and needed, so by Default he ended up with me, I had said would take him, if no one else could give him what he needed.
I hesitated due to Vet Bills he was going to need immediately, as am on very limited Disability Pension, there was also Tawny my Kelpie to consider, not sure if he could go for Walks with her and keep up with her, Tawny was only one year old at time, so still needed three hours a day of Play, Running, Socialisation and Training time in morning, then at least hour of play in backyard/Bush Land before bed, if take on any Aussie Working Dog/Cattle dog, you need to understand this, if don't you end up with very Bored Destructive Dog, as they are the Smartest Dogs you can get, sad to see way so many
US YT and other Social Media sites make this Fad going for far too long, unfortunately you have to look for Aussie Breeders Sites they are pushed down by US Sites around pg 7 you find the Aussie Sites, some give free training Clip, they do this to stop so many Aussie Working dogs, being euthanized in shelters in US, many US sites gives people incorrect training methods and what to expect from Dogs, Aussie Cattle/Working Dogs are Fad in US, Yanks see how clever they are so on whim, just go out and Buy one, do not rescue the many in shelters, is Sad how so many of our Working Dogs that end up in Shelters and put down due to ill-informed people who see them on Social Media and irresponsible Breeders who sell Dogs to people who have no clue, they do not even check that where buyer lives to see if suitable, they do not do well in Apartment in middle of a City, with no Car to take Dogs to large off leash areas, for Dogs to Stimulate and let dogs investigate nature, Play with other Dogs, do Training, so due to people not knowing what these Dogs need, they need constant Stimulation, are referred to as Velcro Dogs, when work is done for day these working Dogs, slip into Family Dog mode easily, hogging the couch, playing with kids, this is due to their undying loyalty, no good Aussie Trainer will tell you to Dominate the Dog, they are your work mate who wants to do anything to please you, they want to go everywhere with you, including going into the Bathroom, you do not tell a Kelpie what to do, you ask them to do it, they are always looking up at you, just waiting for next instructions,
See Great Kelpie Smashed Price Record for Working Dogs, he made the international News he was a Rock Star,
ua-cam.com/video/G0BQ80Z-Bsg/v-deo.html Sadly gone way too soon, we are hoping the driver with unsecured load gets massive fine, licence revoked for 6 months, and ordered to pay Hoovers Owners Compensation, yes horrible we lost Hoover, but that could stuff could have killed a Child instead.

How is what Russia's doing not trafficking? Torturing them & selling them for national propaganda is no better than sex trafficking, & Cthulu knows that's a torture most are enduring, too.

Kendra's NYTimes level exposé was impressive, but it sucked all the comedy out of the room. Maybe it should have been saved for a different show, like Pod Save The World.

    Great Show !
Really funny and Christie McVie👍🏻 at some point in my life I figured out one of the reasons I like Fleetwood Mac so much was actually her voice. I love Stevie Nicks, McVee was the great voice.
    ⛸ Kendra ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
