Bennett was one of the greatest of composers and for writing film music. He was a genius with a message. This makes you cry. Mankind is either at rock bottom or is at subliminal heights. This is a demonstration of the latter. It has the effect of seeping you away from the present decay that is afflicting most.

I have loved this film since the day I saw it on cable television over 30 years ago. Like the best of all film scores, this epic music fits the story to a tee - you can't have one without the other.
I like John Wilson. With this and the MGM concert at last years Proms, he seems to be a person who loves what he is doing up there. Compared to other conductors who take themselves too seriously and be the centre of attention, he lets the orchestra and the music do the talking, asa it were.
I'm very happy that all these films can be such a source of pleasure! Here in Brazil we don't have the broadcasts of the Proms, but ... if we really want them, we always search for a site catch or some downloadable thing. Greetings Marcos Nardon
