This is the most accurate Pawn Stars thing I have ever seen. Rick will literally swindle anyone out of anything they have for as cheap as possible, and then he'll sell it for as much as possible. Anyone who asks for a reasonable price just gets denied.

Pawn shops are generally the only quick way to sell stuff at. He's trying to save as much money possible whilst still making as much money as he possibly can from the item. Everyone would do this. Sure, Rick makes some weird decisions sometimes when it comes to selling things but it's not always. If an item was worth about 20k, I'd genuinely say 15k is worth it.

None of them actually work there. all the interactions on T.V are pre-planned, just like any "reality" T.V show. @@manifestgtr you gotta keep in mind that the prices are already agreed upon before the filming even occurs. The haggling is a big part of the show, and it would be a lot less entertaining if the customer wanted 400 dollars for a 2000 dollar item and Rick just immediately cuts him a deal.
So by making them start at or very close to the retail price they not only have a starting point that Rick will never agree to, but it makes Rick look better because he isn't haggling down somebody who's only asking half of retail price

You really captured all of my frustrations in this show. Theres always an obviously rare item that will be brought in the shop and this guy's always in doubt and will always want to get it for a cheaper price and will never take a slightly higher offer.

When the show came out, it was interesting to see some things I never knew existed. As the show went on, it was less about rare finds and more about them ripping people off to make double the profit. If this went on hire, I doubt no one could tell the difference.
The show is scripted, most people who bring stuff in have no intention to sell, they're essentially just showing off their rare stuff.
Also making double profit isn’t really ripping people off. It’s a business and they have to make money to operate. You also have to consider they have to give themselves wiggle room to negotiate when they sell an item. We may buy an item that’s worth about $200 for $50, mark it at $150, then sell it as low as $100 to the right customer.
I see you have never been to a pawn shop before. Or worked at one.
@@Slickjitz Ask a random store owner what their profit margins are. They're not 200 and 300 percent as in Pawn Stars. They're usually well under 50% for hard goods, less as the items get more expensive. Pawn shops have a reputation as thieves for a reason.

I do like how he pointed out that Jesus was nailed through the wrists and ankles. Not his hands and feet. Otherwise, the weight of his body would cause the nail to rip through the flesh of his hands and feet. It was meant to be a slow and painful death so the accurate thing was to do it through the wrists and ankles to prevent them from moving and if they did, it cause more bleeding and pain. Plus, it would hold his weight more effectively on the cross since the nail would have been driven through bone.

The reason pawn shops have the bad image that they do is because pawnbrokers like Rick get away with lowballing people on national television and call it, "entertainment," but pawn shops really are one of those places that you can turn to for quick cash.
If you can't get personal loan or bank loan because of bad credit or whatever, and have something lying around the house you don't need, most of the time, you can bring in a item for cash and then get the item back at a later date by paying a service charge depending on how long you've "hocked it," for. That's what a "pawn loan" actually is; selling is just "selling."
But no, I wouldn't go into ANY pawn shop with my priceless fingerbone of John the Baptist to pay off a surprise repair bill, my Xbox or something would do
