I honestly believe that Bob was trying to test him, and he failed. Instead of picking himself back up and slowly repairing his house piece by piece and hopes of seeing his wife again. He destroys the house even more.
He failed by denying the spirit it's request, spirits sometimes ask 3 times before doing something horrible to the human to pay them back for their ignorance etc

What I love about this is that considering this is based in Japanese folklore, it's got that potential hidden moral. Often times, folklore stories have a hidden moral of some sort of mentality or attitude you're meant to adopt. Bob said "How can a man take care of his family, if he can't even take care of his home?" Then, in the end, the MC says that he's been making new holes in an attempt to summon him, but he never returns. Since the dude kept his life a mess, Bob never saw the need to come back to teach him the same lesson. You could say that the hidden moral is that you kinda need to have your shit together before you can really have a true healthy family dynamic. Which is kinda funny since that's actually a really good moral in some creepy ass UA-cam animation.
That's just one. The cool thing about hidden morales is you can interprete them differently. Another UA-cam commenter here interpreted that procrastination is a Demon. You could also see that the hostility of the Japanese man turned the Demon aggressive in the first place. Or that his unwillingness to fight for his wife made the Yokai go through with it. Or that even after the Yokai was gone, he never made anything of himself, experienced no growth, never found another woman. There is many lessons in this little short.
I imagine if he actually kept his house in shape instead of breaking it to try and 'summon' the yokai again, he might even have gotten his wife back. But he went the entirely wrong way, ignoring what Bob was saying to him.
Bob the Builder A Yokai that resembles that of a construction worker. If your home has a damaged roof, window etc, which hasn’t been replaced or fixed for a week, this Yokai will manifest into existence and hunt you down to use your body as materials to rebuild. It has a sense of purpose where it would capture every member of a family except one (Mostly male) and passes on a judgemental thought on taking care of one’s home
I know this is old, but it's more that he'll use loved ones as building materials. Since the people that suffer the most for an unsafe home are your loved ones. It isn't a tragedy if one's own laziness hurts them, it's when it hurts someone else it becomes one.

Let’s just take a second to appreciate how good meatcanyons production values have gotten. This looks like a professional short film with a story to match. He’s come a long ways from the simple flash cartoons he used to make.
Wow, this is a very well done horror story. I love how the ending makes you think what would happen if he fixed his home or is it already to late for him and his chance has passed.
Having learned some Japanese Mythology, I knew that these hardest troubles would have the easiest loopholes, Also the Japanese dubbing was perfect and well done, Hontoni Subarashi Mito-Kanyon, Hontoni Subarashi
I have a feeling that the guy had to FIX his house up after it was destroyed, and then MAYBE the yokai would have returned his wife. Because he would show that he could rebuild despite being wracked with grief. The husband being self-destructive would have just showed the yokai that he never learned his lesson.
This dude is a genius. Yokai are spirits related to certain aspect of life, in most cases negative ones (untidiness, laziness, unfaithfulness, you name it). Yokai Bob appears to those who neglect their house and keep it in a state of disrepair. I just love how he absolutely comprehended japanese yokai origins, meaning and purpose and took a western character to fulfill the role so seamlessly.
Well actually it should be reverse What if he didn't have enough resources to keep fixing his house I mean their clothes and the fact that they lived in the middle of forest shows their poverty Even though they were obviously poor they looked like a happy couple So he was properly taking care of his family because they had food and none of them were sick But he wanted to enjoy the meal his wife (probably) made for him first Bob is an irrational monster with wrong ideologies that he forces on others He DoEsN't HaVe A pOiNt
What I truely enjoy about this is the fact that it could pass as an actual part of Japanese folklore. Much like German fairy tales, a lot of them were about scaring people into behaving by going into grotesque detail. Hell, Bob looks characteristic of a Rokurokubi, which in and of itself was a monster meant to keep people inside past midnight. Honestly, this is my favorite MC animation in a long time.
why was this so beautiful what the hell, bob the builder was terrifying, him losing his wife was sad, and the ending was even more sad. voice acting, animation, audio, all 10/10
This one is so god damn good. It’s not just creepy and unsettling, there’s so much more to it. This is professional, if there was a full series of something like this I’d watch it
This kinda makes me want an alt ending with him screaming "Y-yes, I can." and then him and Yokai Bob can just fix the place up good. For someone that liked bob the builder as a kid and grew up into anime and stuff, this hits all the right places.
I wonder, if he just repaired his house instead of letting it rot, would Bob have returned her? Perhaps he sunk so far into his guilt that he couldn’t see the obvious solution right in front of him…
I think when they were in the bedroom bob was going to leave them alone but then he looks like he loses it. Unfortunate too, seemed like he was going to another room.
Some urban legends give a chance to you to live (like that one bathroom one that ask if they're beautiful), so maybe yes, specially if you do actually fix it with him since he is just punishing you for not taking care of your house
I think yokai Bob is personification of death. It comes unexpectedly, takes your loves one away, and leaves your home ransacked and heart shattered. And you either have to rebuild your home and your life or go on the path of destroing yourself and everything around in hopes it comes for you sooner.

Wow this actually has a meaning remember take care of our homes or else Bob is gonna steal your girl.
At first I thought bob skinned her alive and used her to fix the leak in the man’s home.
He probably never would’ve taken her in the first place if they’d replied “yes we can” when he first entered

Lmao facts.

I think yokai Bob is personification of death. It comes unexpectedly, takes your loves one away, and leaves your home ransacked and heart shattered. And you either have to rebuild your home and your life or go on the path of destroing yourself and everything around in hopes it comes for you sooner.
