I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level. - Спорт
Congratulations on a respectable finish in your first BPT tournament!!
Thanks!
Congratulations on a very respectable finish in your first BPT!
Thank you!
A great bait, how to retrieve it (and other options to try), and where and why to use it, how to think about it, along with options of how to possibly expand the success - all in one video.
I hope people appreciate just how much you packed into that 20 minutes.
Exceptionally good info, Matt. Deeply grateful.
Thanks so much!
Great Finish in your first tournament and great video. Thanks for sharing Matt
Thanks for watching!
A lot of people miss it but single Colorado spinnerbaits are great bass killers in summer. They are a good all year bait. Smaller ones in silver in clear water bigger silver in colder clear water, and gold bladed versions in murky or muddy water. And black water silver blades are better all around.
My favorite bait to throw is a spinnerbait a Texas rig and a top water( hula popper, tiny torpedo, (Zara spool for bigger bass), and scum frog. And for big bass and cold water a jig and uncle Josh #11 pork frog. I like smoke jig with black/blue pork in clear water or black or black brown with solid black in clear water also. I will also sometimes match the hatch on the color of the crawfish in the water I am fishing. But in early spring and fall I like to match the hatch on my spinnerbaits on size and color of the baitfish the bass are feeding on that particular day. A jerk bait is ok also.
Thanks for sharing!
Great job Matt! You deserve to be there and can’t wait to follow you all season!
Can't wait!
Thank you Matt!
My pleasure!
Thanks Matt You happy with your first outing.
It’s an ok finish
Congratulations matt great finish buddy keep it up 🤞💪
Thanks! Will do!
Fun to watch, thanks for the fishing lesson. I'm going to try it tomorrow up north in cold water.
Have fun!
Glad someone else hasn't forgot about the old spinnerbait! Grew up with these and still love them. Great to have more info and opinions on skirt colors and trailers. Congrats on getting that first event behind you! Good showing considering you were dealing with 166,000 acres that you were fishing for the first time. Safe travels back to God's Country!
Thanks!
Nice. Love a spinnerbait. Also like this format of video, well done!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanx Matt. That was a great day for the conditions you had. You convinced me that a single blade Colorado works best in cold muddy water with bluebird skies and no wind.
Sounds great!
Congrats Matt. Nice finish on your maiden BPT. Keep doing your thing👍
Thanks 👍
Great job today. I know it wasn’t what you were hoping for. I will keep following your progress. You’re doing great!
Thanks so much!
Glad you made a check bro. Thanks for the video. I love them things. Caught 8 out of 12 this afternoon on the ole spinner bug
Nice work!
I ALWAYS love me some good spinnerbaits videos!!!!!!!
Thanks!
8:15 Congrats on a good Performance 👍. Great video and that color spinnerbait is my go to on the Rivers I fish.
Thanks 👍
I love using spinnerbaits and use single and dual blade Colorado/ Indiana blades all the time. Strike King makes that Midnight Special that’s a single Colorado blade and has a rattle behind the head. That thing is money in muddy water or low light. I’ve caught hundreds of bass and pike on southern Champlain with them.
Do you put a trailer on that spinnerbait? I can’t seem to get any good bite patterns together in the north
@@krispyk.1786 I never do on that one just because I don’t want the trailer to blunt any of the vibration and rattle. With that bait they either want nothing to do with it or they smash the hell out of it. I never seem to have a situation where they’re short striking it which is when I’d probably add some kind of trailer. I think in the situations I’m using it they’re keying off the vibration and sound vs a visual attraction.
@@darrellgrant7615 do you use the same retrieve Matt does? Or do you have your own variation?
It’s a killer Spinnerbait!
I just got FFS. Excited to learn it and use it. Even more excited for future tech. It’s gonna get insane I think. Having said that I don’t think techniques for using lures and when to use them won’t go away really. I also think the vast majority of anglers don’t care about tourneys. I don’t at all. Never watch em and probably never will. But learning more about how to retrieve etc is still important.
It will change your fishing
Good finish,Good luck in the next tournament, great video also
Appreciate it!
🍺 My group “B” pics finished 1st,2nd,3rd,18th and 20th.🤠
I slacked it up for you haha
Fishing looked fun there.
It was
Good video Matt, I forgot I had a few of those from the 70s. I got to get some new skirts 😊
Go for it!
Your bait is also a great flipping bait. I use one similar in the California Delta flipping the tules. Great informative show. Thank you
Thanks 👍
Great video. Spinnerbait is going to be my focus this year. Also, it great following you at Toledo. I thought you had that cut line early on. Good job and good luck on the next event.
Thanks!
Big single spins and that retrieve has accounted for most of my biggest Bass and Pike over the years. Especially on weed lines!
What colors do you like on big single spinnerbaits?
Awesome
Black, and Bluegill with up to #7 blades.
Congrats bro on your finish 🎉
Appreciate it
Congratulations on your first BPT tournament. Got to 12th before your lull. Was rooting for you.
Appreciate it!
Good tournament for your 1st of the season and I love the 8.8 catch that will get you Well in a hurry 😜💯 I have a dozen of the Picasso Sprinnerbaits, and have actually caught a few 6’s and a couple of 7’s with the InVizaWire Spinnerbaits,I’m definitely going for that Big Colorado blade,we have a tone of rain and dirty water and I fish at night if the temps get above 55* @night through spring and all summer 🍀🎣🍀💯
Nice!!
Red lips on that bass probably from eating crawfish.. Nice video Matt
Could be
Fantastic video really appreciate a good spinnerbait video, can you please do a full video on all the spinnerbaits you use the different brands and types, like the Picasso you used in the video at the swivel it has a normal round bend but when I looked on tackle Wearhouse some of them have different bends at the line tie and at the swivel bench? Thanks 😊👍
Sure thing!
Just wanted to say that color spinnerbait with a hammered copper Colorado blade single by it self works in tanic color water here and I would think it will work in Lake Okeechobee too , purple , blue , and black skirt
Thanks for sharing
sorry you didn't make the cut today. awesome 8 pounder though. funny you got three different weights off of it. awesome video too man. take care and have a safe trip home
Thanks 👍
Damn Matt, you really killed them in a real short period of time. I lost track of the number but bet you were close to the old 10 fish limit. We used the big bladed spinner bait in the mid 80's with good success on the Arkansas River system. Now I have to go dig them out. Great video.
Definitely slowed up
Ive never caught a bass on a spinnerbait on the black river in Ohio yet but I got some ozark trail Walmart spinnerbaits for a dollar a piece on sale. I also got some rage swimmers and divine swimbaits for trailers. I'm not giving up yet though!
Good luck
Spinnerbait- most versatile bait..can be fished top to bottom....big double willows are my fav
Great bait
Excellent video. Would you do a video explaining how you would fish to pull bigger fish out of a well stocked lake that's full of smaller lb&½ and 2lb fish.
Great suggestion!
I'm a fan of double-cupped Colorados similar to what came on the original C.C.Spinners. Muddy water I go with brass to match the water color so the flash is visible farther and not absorbed by the water color as would be with nickel. #6 for either a 3/8 or 1/2 oz.
Nice!
🍺Great start Matt a check🤑 and decent points but you stressed me out. 🥵The start you had today made me think you possibly would push for the KO round. I’m interested to learn what you think may have happened.🤠
Lots of thoughts have gone through my head
This is a confirmed pro tip. Edwin Evers used this retrieve for crankbaits
Nice!
Congrats on a nice tournament in Texas. You wouldv'e finished 20th in either the A or B group. No big fish today but you caught a nice stringer....!!
Thanks
Questions about spinnerbaits. When would you add a trailer? Are they better without a chunk bait or other soft plastic? Spinner and football/hair jigs I never know when to add a trailer or not
I generally do not add a traiLer unless I’m adding bulk or want to keep the bait hover/slower
One observation Matt, not once did I see you adjusting the wire, with those catches a flinging them over the sides that's impressive 👍
Didn’t need to
Best of luck on Santee Cooper.
Thanks
This same technique would have and does work well on Toledo Bend...
Awesome
Hey Matt, love your channel. What size and power rod were you using?
It was the MHX MB843 a 7ft mh fast
Thanks. Congrats on a good finish.
By the way, about this video, did you check the other side of the ditch or only focus on one?
I did and caught nothing
Thanks.@@MattStefanFishing
Connell beatin up on everyone. even a blind squirrel is capable of finding a nut I guess.
Wouldn't be shocked if Livescope is Connell's "technique"....the angler lucky enough to idle over the most/quality fish will win
@@andybales7318🍺Livescope was the technique that every single angler that made the knockout round used.
Connell will not win this one no higher than 4th will be my guess
Picasso has some great baits. Wish I could find them a bit easier and on sale ; )
They make great stuff!
thanks for sharing . do u think that bait would hold up to musky ? my favorite musky bait is a spinner like that
It can but it might only last for one
I wish they would come out with the Titanium wire for a spinnerbait in black , from the head all the way to the blade , even on a short arm too
The wire this has works great
That rod has more guides than I know what to do with 😂
Cast so smooth!
@@MattStefanFishing I believe you 😂🫡
I know you like the Tightrope finesse jigs, have you tried their spinnerbaits? If so, how are they?
Yep i did i video on it
What rod length power and action do you recommend for this?
Can we do the same with a single colorado? I mean with a 3/4 Oz number 5 colorado? Thanks Man!
Yep
Reds lips are rooting through the mud for crayfish. Tight lines
Interesting
Did you see them on FFS or was it too shallow? How shallow of water does FFS usually not come into play?
I was not seeing them on FFS
I heard Canadian geese flying too
Thank you!
🍺 I was so stressed out. Any scorable bass by Lane would’ve dropped you out of the money.🤑 Check time.
I was a little stressed as well haha
Could you teach Randy how to do these kind of videos
Haha i don’t think that’s possible
I would add zoom magnum ultra vibe worm
Sounds good
👍
Thank you!
Like it
Thanks!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
How did Toledo Bend turn out?
20th in group B, did not make Knockout round.
I cashed a check
Is there a reason why you dont put a trailer on in this video? If so why and when should a trailer should be impactful?
I’ll do a video on it
It amazes me that anyone still switches hands
I use left and right handed reels
Why no trailer?
I’ll do a video on it
Figured you'd be fishing on ice skates up there
Haha
Enjoy you and Randy.
1st!
Nice!
You massacred them! Do you think a different color would make a difference? Do you recommend that color?
It could i guess but i liked the color i had
The blade on the thumbnail pic is sexy!
Thanks!
Great video! Would it be okay to fish that bait with a gold blade in that dirty cold water?
Hi Matt 😊 I learned a lot fishing technics from you. Amazing.
How to can I get your email address? I would to talk about something. Here is south of Korea.
Never leave fish to go find fish. Done this a few times in my life. More often than not it doesn’t work out!!🥸
Staying on fish didn’t work out for me on day 2
